What’s Netflix? Ah right that service i cancelled over a year ago.

It’s illegal so of course they have to block it.

You can find pirated material on the web elsewhere so why is it important if it’s on Lemmy or not?

Imagine if the idiotic media starts writing about Lemmy as a pirate network or something worse.

It’s adult individuals running these servers, not companies. They would get punished in 2 seconds.

You want them to risk committing crimes for running a Lemmy instance?

If you want to downvote this, maybe you should run something illegal first in public and see how it goes.

The entire idea of fighting “for your country” is ridiculous to me. It’s not my country.

Almost the entire human race has no influence on the events that occur at all.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Exactly, we get randomly born in a spot on Earth and then we are supposed to feel love for our country? Why?

Is there anything to be proud of for each country? All I see is politicians trying to gain popularity by lying, wars being started and finished with lies and propaganda, and citizens being generally unhappy and ignored.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

This is how they keep humanity not moving forward. By making us focus on our differences instead of our similarities. An eternal conflict that never ends, preventing our species from focusing on other things than war with itself.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

I think I feel anger about it, but I have also given up on them. The future will only be worse. I think we were much better off in the 70s and 80s.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

It’s cute how they tell everyone we can just go vote to have a lot of influence on things too. :)

As if any of us has any influence on what’s going on whatsoever.

Anti virus companies has also been caught making viruses.

A lot of shady shit happens when there is money and power to be had.

Upgrade to get 3% performance gains on paper and no noticeable real performance gain!

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

I haven’t found any evidence of this, but that’s to be expected… How would that evidence look like even.

But there has always been rumors of this. And since there is money involved… I think it’s not unlikely.

The argument against this is always “there are so many viruses, antivirus companies can’t create them all”. And nobody is saying that. It’s enough to create one high profile virus and you will sell your anti virus software very easily.

But I think it was more common in the past. Today all companies will buy anti virus software, so it’s guaranteed sales.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Yeah I remember some company was but I can’t find it anymore. Web has been scrubbed… It was a long time ago now.

Linux.

Honestly, not even joking. It’s just not something you have to care about when you run Linux.

One of the advantages of using a platform with like 3% userbase. But it’s a great platform.

No it would infect wine, not Linux.

Anyway I can see your point, but just in case the OP wants to try a different operating system where you don’t have these problems, it’s good to know about Linux.

There are virus scanners for it, sure, but they are hardly used outside of enterprise environments and there is almost no virus writers targeting Linux. It’s a different world.

Once you try it, you don’t want to go back to Windows.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Of course it’s not a container but wine is a windows emulator running in Linux. So wine will be infected, which means your windows apps may be infected also.

I like the idea of showerthoughts but I don’t want to moderate it on Lemmy.world. I don’t believe in having all communities on one big instance called Lemmy.world.

Are you open to people from other instances moving it over there?

Not only car free but we should use tech to improve our cities and exist in balance with nature.

We could start tomorrow if we didn’t have low consciousness humans running the planet.

Right now it’s ridiculous how stupid everything is, I can’t even follow the news anymore. :)

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

I’m really sorry to hear this. If someone wants to target an instance and create enough work so it becomes impossible to maintain it, they can.

This is why we need to spread out on many different instances. Maybe you have noticed that every time Lemmy.world is attacked, there’s almost no content anymore. We can change that by spreading out and posting from different instances.

If a few of them are attacked, then it doesn’t affect the entire fediverse.

It’s bullshit. But not because aliens don’t exist, I believe they do. But this media publicity is clearly meant to be the buildup for some large fake alien threat.

9/11 was the most recent event that allowed the powers that be to grab massive amounts of power. Will the next be a fake alien threat? I don’t know. Maybe.

There is something entertaining reading bad reviews, specially when it comes from shitty companies.

Fastmail is great and has very fast user interface and lots of nice features, such as email address aliases you can create with a button click or integrate it with Bitwarden etc.

It costs money though, just so you know if you want “free” (nothing is really free).

Ubuntu desktop version, it’s slow and buggy and the devs push ads and snaps and other crap.

So create more technology communities on different instances? We have the technology for it now.

I created this one today because we need more, and we need to spread out. If you don’t want to join lemmy.today, start a community on your own instance. But spread out.

I use it at work but gladly tell the boss… It’s only pluses if we can do more trivial work faster. More time to relax. They don’t watch what I do during the day. The boss relaxes also. All good.

It made me cry though. It’s really sad.

Yeah… Because it shows how cruel people can be to eachother. Thats why you got angry? Without spoiling…

When the fuck did a mobile hotspot become something you have to pay extra for?

It’s my goddamn motherfucking mobile data and MY PHONE. I should be able to use it however I want. My wifi went down because the greedy, cunt-faced shitbags at Comcast stole taxpayer subsidies to enrich themselves instead of actually providing the service we’re paying for. I tried to switch to a mobile hotspot and my phone...

@1984@lemmy.today avatar

What phone do you have? I’ve never heard of an android phone not having wifi Hotspot…

Happy to say I don’t watch YouTube much anymore, except when someone recommends some random video… And then I use Newpipe to watch it.

I’m just so over big tech. You know that feeling when you get so tired of a person that even seeing them from a distance fills you with anger? That’s big tech for me now.
