I’m currently (re)reading Moorcock’s The War Hound and the World’s Pain. Short synopsis - an educated, cynical, apostate and unapologetically brutal mercenary in the Middle Ages is recruited by Lucifer to recover the Holy Grail, nominally so that Lucifer can wheedle his way back into God’s good graces....
Nah, it’s because it’s less of a headache than Mastodon (everyone I’ve talked to likes the idea, but hates the implementation because they find it hard to navigate) and it’s not a mess like Threads or Twitter. What people want is 2015 Twitter because they’re not nerds. They want it to just work.
As for the invite-only thing, I found it odd at first, but I kinda understand why people like it now. It makes it harder for assholes to join and if they do manage to get an invite, they’ll have to get another one after their account gets banned for bigotry or being a shithead.
I’m sorry, did you read the sentence that you’re saying is untrue? Because… you didn’t address my claim at all.
That they were trying to turn anything they could into a weapon to kill civilians… and all they could possibly do is kill 300 in over ten years while taking thousands of civilian casualties. Doesnt really add up to the picture you were trying to paint.
leaving is pretty alien to prison systems. People in prisons are supposed to be locked inside. There are supposed to be guards in there with them 24/7. And prisons don’t have borders with multiple countries.
There are work release programs in most all major prison systems… and your other rebuttals are purely pedantic. There are several types of penal systems, some just ship people to remote islands…they are still prisons.
I guess it’s like a prison in that a gang runs the place, but unlike a prison in that, in prison, the gang doesn’t take control of the food distribution and steal all the concrete that could be used for concrete, and use it instead to build tunnels that they use to murder outside civilians before coming back home to their prison. And the prison gangs usually aren’t run by billionaires living in Qatar.
It’s almost like the Israeli government doesn’t care what happens to the people in their prison… very perplexing.
And I’ve never heard of prisoners beheading babies before. I’ve never heard of anyone beheading babies before. It’s kind of, you know, totally unprecedented.
You must not read a lot of history… there was once an ethnocentric theocracy by the name of imperial Japan that did some stuff in China a while ago… also, do you have any evidence of this actually occurring?
I’ve seen a lot of people celebrating these attacks. I’ve seen people in Manhattan waving swastikas around at a “pro-Palestinian” rally, before Israel’s reprisals began. I’ve seen people in London vandalize Jewish neighborhoods, breaking windows and spraying graffiti. I’ve seen people in Brooklyn protest a memorial by saying that the violence against civilians was justified.
And you think neonazi are reasonable people?
They don’t give a shit about Palestinians. They just want to see Jews suffer.
Ahh yes, everyone who disagrees with the Israeli state hates Jewish people… no way people could just want an end to an apartheid state.
With fucking hang gliders, if they can.
And controlling there airspace prevents this how?
t’s usually more of an issue of Iran dropping weapons in by air.
Ahh so the Iranians are Palestinians now… how would controlling the air space east of Israel prevent Iran, a country west of Israel from dropping bombs? Controlling their airspace is just another way to control the flow of vital goods.
It’s pretty sick to call beheadding babies as “foreseeable,” isn’t it? Did you actually see that coming, that they would behead babies?
Yeah, beheading a baby and airstriking a baby both end with two dead children. Also… what evidence do you have that babies have been decapitated? We’ve seen this or things similar to this be falsely broadcasted to justify war in our lifetime.
think you mean “discourse.”
Discord isnt just Skype for gaming, it means argument or disagreement. Israel has rejected all other form of argument, and thus there will be violence.
I guess you’ve never heard of the Olmert deal?
Lol, a deal implies two willing parties. The realignment plan was a unilateral border change where Israel attemped to legalize their illegal settlements by claiming they’d disengage from the West Bank.
The problem is that nothing is stopping someone making unilateral policy from changing that policy as they see fit. Within the span of year it went from disengaging from 90% of the West Bank to 70% of the West Bank. Why would the Palestinians agree to signing something like that when Israel has already been so keen on breaking international law?
Netanyahu is also a dick, though. I really wish Olmert and Abbas figured it out…
Yes, and terrifyingly he’s been your PM six times… over a decade and a half of creating the perfect environment for extremism.
I don’t hate Jewish people, I’m not a white supremacy nut, both would be odd for an Asian person. As a person who’s home country has a history of border conflicts, crimes against humanity, and fascist governments, I don’t think your people are going to look back with any pride for what is going to unfold in the next few months.

We could argue anecdotes and experiences back and forth and get nowhere, or we could look at the data. According to the LAPD 8% of crimes involved homeless people. This includes cases where either the victim or the suspect is homeless. The article also states that they are more likely the victim then the perpetrator so we can cut that down to ~3% are the suspects of crime. Also considering that homeless are often falsely accused or scapegoated that is still probably a high guess for actual perpetrators.
That’s ~3% of crime, considering your also in general not likely to be a victim of crime the odds you are a victim of a crime committed by a homeless person is very low. Not 0 so you’ll get lurid stories like the one you posted on the local news, but still low.
The tactic of citing the most horrific news story about an individual in a group of people has long been used to demonize people of color. Some news agencies realize they can’t do this anymore so they’re shifting to a new marginalized group that just so happens to be composed of mostly people of color.
Sometimes I experience imposter syndrome, then I realise that most of my clothes are on my bed, and all the nicknacks from all my drawers on the floor, and I'm reorganising everything...
Because I need to hoover / vacuum.
Trust me, it makes sense... somehow 😅
It's odd how the imposter syndrome is almost always followed by something like this that's really illustrates it for me 🤣
You can actually sign the F-Droid app yourself, if you use reproducible builds.
There’s reasonable odds the signatures still won’t match though, because Google requires App Bundles now, and then they build and sign the APK, rather than allowing the developer to build and sign their own APK.
Technically you can use the same key (see “Best Practices” of this page), but it’s kind of shady, and requires giving your private key to Google.
Heck, sometimes someone comes to me and asks if some system can solve something they just thought of. Sometimes, albeit very rarely, it just works perfectly, no code changes required.
Not going to argue that my code is artificial intelligence, but huge AI models obviously has a higher odds of getting something random correct, just because it correlates.
Maybe not quite so much these days. I use Outlook at work, but that’s been the limit of my MS contact in tech for a few years now (apart from the odd Teams meeting I’ve been invited to). It used to be worse in terms of lock in, IMO.
I guess not strictly news - but with all of the vitriol I have seen in discussions on the Israel situation, that have boiled down to arguments over wording, I feel that this take from the BBC is worthy of some discussion....
I’m not sure I’d call Israel a terrorist state, but absolutely an apartheid state.
If you live in Gaza, you really don’t have a lot to lose by attacking Israeli non-combatants, because you have no hope, and the Israeli gov’t keeps going farther and farther to the right. Gaza looks a lot like the Warsaw ghettos prior to rounding all the Jews up and murdering them. The uprisings in the Warsaw ghetto were punished with the same kind of wildly disproportionate force as we’re already seeing Israel use against Gaza.
Hamas and Palestinian militants were, and are, wrong to target and murder non-combatants. And, at the same time, Israel has been doing exactly the same fucking thing for 20-odd years now; from 2008 through 2020, more than 120,000 Palestinians–mostly non-combatants–were wounded or killed by the Israeli military. In that same time period, 6,000 Israelis were wounded or killed by Palestinian militants.
Israel can not claim to be a democracy, because they refuse to give Palestinians a voice in government at all.
As an aside, the parallels between how Israel has treated Palestinians, and how the US has treated Native Americans is uncomfortable.

I still see Trumps face everywhere, though primarily on left wing media. Oddly enough, I see it there more than I do on right wing media. (Gotta see what both sides are saying, the truth is in the middle somewhere)
The odd choice was not enabling the m.2 from launch. I’m not sure building to a price is odd given VERY few gen 4 drives were around at the time and the memory prices were INSANE at that time.
Kind of amazing they have gone from circa £140 to £35 for 1tb in less than 3 years.
As I said in another reply, yeah it makes sense, just sounds odd. Maybe it’s because here in Britain Christmas is kind of a thing for everyone almost entirely independent of religion. Cultural differences and all that.

If you do it, pay close attention to what’s supposedly inside it. Both muscimol and ibotenic acid are supposed to be hallucinogenic, and both muscimol and ibotenic acid are in fly agric mushrooms. However, muscimol appears to be fairly non-toxic while ibotenic acid is neurotoxic and can cause scarring to the brain (sciencists apparently use it to cause brain lesions in rats for testing purposes). Despite this, from what I’ve seen it’s hard to find edibles that don’t have ibotenic acid.
Also, note that I said “supposedly” a lot. I tried a chocolate bar that supposedly had muscimol in it once. I felt a little odd the first time I tried it, but that was the full extent of my experience (I tried eating half the bar at one point to see if I just have a high natural tolerance, but that had even less of an effect). Additionally, I think I read a company recently got caught selling gummies that were just straight-up psilocybin.
A mildly interesting Michael Moorcock/MCU connection or coincidence
