In addition to questions of end-of-life, Existentialism also deals with questions of purpose-of-life. Which can be mind racking even if you’re not afraid of death.
Still not super interesting questions to me though.
Pulled a ~ 600 € DeLonghi coffee maker out of the dumpster and invested about 50 € in spare parts (water tank, grounds container, and a new magnet valve). Seems like I have a new coffee machine now 😁☕
(It would have gone even faster and without a puddle on the kitchen counter if I had put in the gaskets from the start. 🤦 Ah well.)
I think they make too much money repairing complex coffee machines to make it difficult
Also unlike phones they don’t need to make them small as possible and able to survive being carried all day, so don’t have those reasons for making things tight and sealed
I’m find Paul Wesley strangely unlikable. He looks kinda weird. His movements are odd. Nothing is wrong with him, he just makes me uncomfortable. Would you please share what you like about him? I’d like to get over this weird feeling.
To be fair, every studio is 2 bombs away from bankruptcy, hell MeMeMe games shut down even though they didn’t make a single bad game since shadow tactics. Both gacha and live service are constant cashflows that keep a company alive during hard times, just like Final Fantasy XIV kept Square going, and granblue is keeping Cygames going while they invest the surplus on more prestige games.

Your worries are perfectly fine. I would say that being open source is what makes Openreads so great. The app is licensed as GPLv2 so everyone can use it and modify it forever. Not like other proprietary apps that the second they stop making profit can be closed with no option to migrate to any other service.
is a booster-bot not really of linux, I would say ANTI-LINUX, and promotes constantly marketing by 3-4 corporations that seek to dominate linux and displace all alternatives.
The majority of people speak of junk/fast food 3 brands of soda, 2, 3 brands of coffee/tea, 2 brnands of tropical fruit ,3 brands of power-drinks, 3 brands of beer,
as nutrition, 2 brands of phone OSs, and it is all crap if not bad for you.
So what is your point?
What is popular is what has been marketed, and it is usually both dominant and a very poor alternative to what it sells for.
You should just block 99% of Linux insistence if you’re that butt hurt over what’s popular.
Also, the Linux community consistently doesn’t give a rats ass about marketing, we only care about what works well.
X11/Xorg for example is dying not “because of marketing”, it’s dying because it an unmaintainable mess with numerous unfixable problems and downright design flaws. That’s why freedesktop.org in collaboration with Xorg devs created and develop Wayland.

How do I make friends as an adult? I'm new to my area and don't have any local friends or community. Have been struggling with loneliness a lot lately.
@solarisfire@magicalgrrrl@actuallyautistic honestly I'd love almost the opposite of that. I'm not very comfortable just going to do an activity with strangers. I'd much rather meet people with a common interest in an activity in a social context for such people, befriend them if that goes well, then do the activity with my new friends.
Ofc I'm open to making friends of any kind, but if we lack things in common, we won't have much to talk about 😅
This can also theoretically help get around Netflixes password sharing restrictions
This is the interesting bit here. I assume others will follow in Netflix’s steps shortly (Netflix made a fuckton of money from this) but this would also help you circumvent this crackdown with your Apple subscription…
Yeah, I noticed they added some stuff and annoyingly tried putting it first. I just hid the crap i didn’t want. The live TV actually has a lot of options. I don’t really watch much TV these days but there’s been plenty to choose from so far. I think having the lifetime Plex pass makes it different.
@thelinuxEXP@linux@Linux@debian A small update. For some reason, MX Linux has a lot of issues while installing software like RStudio, Discord etc. If I can't fix those somehow, I might hop distro again.
Will Bunch of the Philadelphia Inquirer wrote a column we wish all the members of the media had to read word-for-word, out loud, before they could log on to their computer systems.
Since that seems unlikely, we're giving you a multi-post thread that reproduces the column in its entirety.
My discipline, anthropology, is not seen as "growth" disciplines, and departments are being closed down. But the world needs Anthropology and Anthropologists now more than ever!
Here are my 8 reasons for this:
POSSIBILITIES
At a time of polycrisis, when the destructive fallouts of capitalist modernity are ever more apparent, anthropology highlights that there are myriad alternative ways of thinking and living; that there is so much to learn from other peoples in the world. 1/n
I fear Pauline that you have described perfectly all the reasons why politicians would look to erase anthropology. It threatens their singular view of the world.
Yea this is the essence of the idea. Strip down the interop requirements as much as possible, relying on existing tech as much as possible, and allow software and norms to solve all the other problems, where, TBF, it seems that software is doing all the heavy lifting in the fediverse anyway, but also has to handle federation and the protocol.
I’ve bought a new pot, red, beautiful and enameled. The old one I used to have was cracked. And my two cast Iron pots are not enameled.
So I ended up cleaning that cupboard & sorting pots and pans (not really what I planned to do today). And I have loads. Some from the bottom and back are really dirty & need a thorough clean.
I will have to decide which should go for keeping in the basement. For a single person the amount is ridicules & I’ve not even got to the lids on the top shelf 😱 @cooking
Sounds delicious. I love cooking large portions and freezing later. One of my favorites is kinda a bastard chicken cacciatore I got from food network ages ago, some fireman cooked it for all his buddies in the firehouse. So, huge portions if you follow the recipe as-written, which I don’t recommend unless you know a lot of firemen or something.
