We’ve just published an update about this Mastodon trial which has been running for the last 6 months – you can read it here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/rd/blog/2024-02-extending-our-mastodon-social-media-trial

We are going to continue our trial here for at least another six months while we share our findings internally and seek more engagement from other BBC teams. We are also planning to start researching ways to publish more BBC content using ActivityPub.

It would be nice if those fines could be used to support free software development for alternatives

IIRC it wasn’t the signal protocol, just the encryption methods that were shared with WhatsApp. I don’t think federation was ever on the cards.

Maybe now that traditional memes are well on the way to being drowned in a sea of low-quality propaganda made by idiots, the cool kids will move on to text posts.

@BenjaminFaliere @axnxcamr @actuallyautistic God that's relatable!! We get punished so much for our autistic behaviors, unmasking is scary even when we really trust the person 💜

@dramypsyd to be honest, I think I don’t want to be a problem for her. And unmasking would mean become a problem… From my point of view. Even if she says the opposite.

How do I use this account on lemmy and vice-versa?
Is the upvote of lemmy the same as favorite of mastodon? (they do not sync) if not then what metric are these two uniquely gauged?
@technology

Neat, I don’t see your comment though in Mastodon. I assume only first and second level threaded comments are sync’d? I’m not too familiar with Mastodon, so maybe this is expected?

“When Kleon heard the news from Capua he rose early one morning, being a literatus & unchained, crept to the room of his Master, stabbed him in the throat, mutilated that Master’s body even as his own had been mutilated; and so fled from Rome with a stained dagger in his sleeve and a copy of The Republic of Plato hidden in his breast.”

Words as "mere expressions." In this passage of the of (Samyutta Nikaya 1.25), the question is: Does the "Arahant" (who has attained the goal) use the word "I"? The answer is yes, but only conventionally:

https://suttacentral.net/sn1.25/en/sujato

> Skillful, understanding the world’s conventions, they’d use these terms as no more than expressions.”

Bhikkhu Bodhi:
> Skilful, knowing the world’s parlance, He uses such terms as mere expressions.”

Words as "makeshift description." In the Te Ching, 15 (D.C. Lau):

> Of old he who was well versed in the way
> Was minutely subtle, mysteriously comprehending,
> And too profound to be known.
> It is because he could not be known
> That he can only be given a makeshift description:
