I assume you mean Biden in which case no, it means 14th best. (Edit: and apparently you aren’t the only one to think this, sorry if people were making fun of you - I would hope Lemmy would be more welcoming than this)
The aim, the authors said, “was to create a ranking of presidential greatness"
Ironically Ulysses S Grant “whose administration generated significant corruption but whose attempts to enforce post-civil war Reconstruction in southern states, including fighting the Ku Klux Klan, have helped fuel reconsideration” moved up from 26 to 17. i.e. the authors seem to be taking into consideration not just what happened but how the President responded to it?
Likewise James Buchanan was higher than Trump, probably bc failing to stop a civil war isn’t as bad as actually leading a coup attempt where police officers were literally murdered in violence.
Though Biden is only 2 steps ahead of Reagan and there’s also notably “George HW Bush (No 19), who led the nation’s last decisive military victory, the Gulf war of 1991.” It seems incongruous bc even the liberal media is not reporting much on anything that Biden actually does manage to accomplish - they sell stories that generate profits, and boring blah blah successes don’t generate engagement, like Trump does.
FYI, the person who made fun of you got their comment removed by a mod. I hope this helps restore a tiny bit of faith in how Lemmy makes social media work.:-)
That’s actually what a good headline looks like. It presents what happened without being biased towards one side (in this case the US federal & state government vs tribal government).
How about not using the term Indian in the title in the 21st century. I understand its not as taboo down there as it is up here, but at least use American Indian. Before clicking through to read more I assumed it was about people from India.
The groups involved are the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Senate Committee of Indian Affairs. Insofar as I know they still call them Indian reservations as well.
Fully agree that things should change (and in the article they call them Native Americans.) but at present the naming is in line with current conventions.
Not saying you're wrong, but -- it turns out that more people with indigenous North American heritage prefer to be called "Indians," followed by "Native Americans," and then "Other." I still think "Native Americans" is the best general term, but even that papers over the vast array of different indigenous nations on the continent.
I know nothing about Haitian politics or people, but the President’s own wife conspired to kill him? My brain trips over that one. Are we sure their justice system hasn’t been captured here?
7 UN experts and a mountain of witness testimonies that actually exist?
Far more evidence than a pile of burnt bodies with a fanfic written for them, which supposedly was enough for our mainstream media to slander and lie about raped israelis.
None of which are referenced or cited in the article. I’m incredibly sympathetic, I even want this to be true, but I’m not just uncritically taking the word of a random website I’ve never seen or heard of before telling me what I want to hear.
Edit: I just realized how awful “I want this to be true” is in this context. Actually, on reconsideration, I would very much prefer this to be false.
I don’t care about downvotes at all. I support military action in Rafah, and I think this is a great move by Israel to issue a public ultimatum to Hamas and give them the choice of whether or not Rafah is taken.
Sadly, cases like this happens in all the world. I don’t know if their work tend to desensitize some cops or what, but this is not the first time something like this happen, and certainly will not be the last.
A lot of good local articles on the topic, including radio pieces following cops in bad parts of town. A major failing of the program is that it was difficult to seek help even if you wanted to, with sometimes 1 hr phone wait times to set a time to wait an hour to talk to someone. The intent - to funnel users into treatment - wasn’t met.
A better method (in my opinion) would be a “treatment or jail” system, which would put people in a 6-week contained treatment system pre built with capacity to handle the load… Oregon may be liberal, but that would never fly, and the republicans would rather walk out and shut down the state house than allow it.
But we tried. Back ti letting everything fall apart until the state collapses.
I don’t understand why a treatment or jail program wouldn’t be desirable.
Cost? Wasn’t it potentially offset by cannabis taxes?
Capacity? Didn’t addicts already get locked up? Or maybe now there’s no capacity because the low level addicts have not been locked up and adjustments were made?
The shoes, gold lame high tops with an American flag detail on the back, are being sold as “Never Surrender High-Tops” for $399 on a new website that also sells Trump-branded “Victory47” cologne and perfume for $99 a bottle. He’d be the 47th president if elected again.
Excuse me, I’m not well versed in American politics mumbo jumbo, but this seems to make no sense, right?
He is the president number 45 already, as Obama was 44 even when he served two terms. You don’t get a number for each term, why he would be 47 then?
