gt24 , in Reddit Down: Community Site Experiencing Widespread Errors

Reddit, about yesterday, started to implement a change…

They have the old Reddit interface and then the one that replaced it (“new Reddit”) and the current interface you see on Reddit replaced that. People don’t like the most recent interface iteration but had the option to go to “new Reddit” or “old Reddit” by vising the appropriate links.

Notably, each newer interface seems to be more stressful for the servers to run. Still, likely a decent amount of folks don’t like the newest interface so likely the load balances out.

Yesterday though, they “pulled the lever” and “new Reddit” is no more. (This was announced about a month ago at this link but they only got around to doing it yesterday.) Those people trying to access “new Reddit” are redirected to the latest interface. You have the option to use the oldest Reddit interface or the newest one but not the “new Reddit” one. Since the latest interface seemed to use the most server resources before, it is interesting how Reddit seemed to have their severs overloaded a bit when they made the switchover.

On Reddit, people have been upset in /r/help that this has happened but Reddit will likely continue on with this change anyway. Old Reddit will continue to be supported (at least for now anyway).

TokenBoomer , in US Army speaks out against Trump

Why couldn’t the Army itself press charges on behalf of the official that was assaulted?

phoneymouse ,

Not only that — what is the penalty for violating Section 60?

The army acts like the employee being assaulted was the only issue.

dellish ,

Because once again, Trump just gets away with it. This is fucking bullshit.

@Sir_Kevin@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

He should be awarded 100K for each year spent in prison and an additional million just because.

chiliedogg ,

Fuck that.

Let’s look at minimum wage at the time he was imprisoned: $3.35/hour. Make that his wage the entire time he was in prison. After the first 40 hours a week he’d get OT, so it comes out to about $3,300/month. Since he wasn’t able to spend that money, let’s put a monthly payment into the market, with an average return of 7%…

That would put him at $6,587,619.39 at the end of 37 years if we value his freedom at the 1987 minimum wage.

That should be the opening bid from he state.

IAmTheZeke , in Justice Department watchdog finds failures in FBI's handling of child sex abuse cases

The FBI has failed to report some child sexual abuse allegations to local law enforcement or social service agencies even after changes prompted by its handling of the case against former USA Gymnastics team doctor Larry Nassar, according to a Justice Department watchdog report released Thursday.

In a review brought on by the FBI’s failures to promptly investigate Nassar, the inspector general found serious problems persist that run the risk of child sexual abuse allegations falling through the cracks as overworked agents juggle dozens of cases at a time. In one case, a victim was abused for 15 months after the FBI first received a tip about a registered sex offender, the report said.

I’d love to see more money going towards fixing these agencies.

RememberTheApollo_ , in US Army speaks out against Trump

Everyone posting quotes from the trump side, so here’s what the Army said:

“This incident was unfortunate, and it is also unfortunate that the ANC employee and her professionalism has been unfairly attacked. ANC is a national shrine to the honored dead of the Armed Forces, and its dedicated staff will continue to ensure public ceremonies are conducted with the dignity and respect the nation’s fallen deserve,” the statement said.

So the Army sided with the people at the cemetery, and tge following paragraphs indicate the Pentagon does as well.

prole , (edited )

Barely… They don’t even condemn the people who did it. They say it was “unfortunate.” Give me a fucking break.

Imagine if this was a Democrat.

pyre ,

their campaign would have ended and you’d still be hearing about it in 2028

assassin_aragorn ,

The US military is very apolitical. They don’t get involved with campaigns or politics. I think it may actually be illegal for an active serviceman to make statements with any political leanings. Certainly in uniform I think.

So for them to say this much is actually a big deal.

RememberTheApollo_ ,

Agreed. It even says in the article that the army stays out of politics and such a statement was a very rare occurrence. So we can infer the fact that they made a statement at all carries quite a bit of weight.

prole ,

Let’s see how “apolitical” works when fascists are running the country.

assassin_aragorn ,

Actually, surprisingly not badly. US generals like Milley took precautions to prevent Trump from doing even more disastrous things. Military leadership is generally respectable.

prole ,

And yet they continued to voluntarily work directly with a fascist administration.

A bottle that’s actually a drink vs. a pouch that’s barely a mouthful? I’m OK with that…

finitebanjo OP ,

A 30 Pack of pouches was sold for like 0.05 to 0.20 USD per fluid oz.

They sell large 96 fl oz bottles at roughly 0.30 USD per fluid oz, so you’re actually getting less drink with bottles as things stand currently.

Yeah but kids also take much smaller sips than adults. That said, last time I drank a Capri Sun, I downed it in one squeeze and was super disappointed.
