Ugh. I get ai is bad but what about the small indie developers who are just using it to make modeling references instead of paying for modeling references? The prices of a lot of that stuff are absolutely criminal. What about using it to generate model textures instead of buying overpriced bloatware from the unity store that’s probably stolen anyway? Surely there is at least some acceptable use case for ai. Fuck large corporations and everything they’ve done to destroy the economy and the job market, don’t get me wrong. Absolutely fuck them.
It’s not like indie devs can afford to pay for Hollywood actors. If this is to become a conflict of “professional actors vs small developers” then shit. This is a shitty conflict with no clear winner at best. For now these strikes may not effect indie developers but a future Clarence Thomas Signature Shitpost ™ of a supreme court decision sure will.
What about using it to generate model textures instead of buying overpriced bloatware from the unity store that’s probably stolen anyway?
They should probably either learn to texture, use free public domain textures, purchase some ready made texture packs from an artist, or pay a texture artist who doesn’t deserve to be out of a job because of a techbro plagiarism machine.
Generative AI is some seriously cool tech but the fact that it’s built off of plagiarised content and that it’s being used to undercut workers is not a vibe.
Yea so… making fun of someone’s name is sophomoric. I’m sure some Trump folks love it but actual adults really don’t give a shit. I was even kind of annoyed years back when people were attacking Trump because of the Drumpf surname - as if half of America didn’t have their name butchered by Ellis Island.
The asshole doesn’t have any actual criticisms that will stick so he’s resorting to school yard bullying.
Not just sophomoric, as the article points out. Plain old bigoted.
“It’s one thing to mispronounce someone’s name on the first try, right? But to do it repeatedly and deliberately, it feels purposeful. It’s certainly done to make a point. It is othering, a way of saying you don’t belong here,” said Jean Sinzdak, the associate director of the Center for American Women and Politics at Rutgers University.
“I would describe it as a racist and sexist attack on her because she’s been the vice president for three and a half years,” Sinzdak said. “It’s not hard to say her name. It’s not complicated.”
It’s a lot simpler than that for psychopaths like Trump: it’s a simple cut that’s dehumanizing. It’s an easy way to say, “You mean nothing to me, and I know this hurts you, so I will keep on hurting you as much as possible whenever I can because I can, and that gratifies me.”
It’s one of the most effective trolling behaviors there is, because, no matter how big a person you are, it will always cut a little. And it is also one of the most obvious signs that someone is a psychopath. Because they hurt someone just because they can.
You see it all the time from trolls on the Internet.
I have a very common American name, but with a very European spelling. I’m 41 fucking years old. It gets under my skin at least a little bit when I see it misspelled, regardless of how understandable it is…
So what then is the difference between the boneless chicken wing cooking style and normal chicken wing cooking style? If it starts with “take a piece of chicken meat without any bones”, then what stops this line of argument from saying that it doesn’t matter how well they follow the recipe and thus restaurants can serve whatever they want to meet any order and then just say “we were following the (name of food) cooking style, not promising that, and are just bad at following that style or made up our own version”?
On a related note, how are judges determined to be qualified to make any decision? Are they supposed to be fair and intelligent, or just do their best to judge things in a fair and intelligent style?
That said, there was a bit of a fluke involved to have the bone go down the wrong way and also him not even notice for a few days. IMO in a proper decision, the restaurant shouldn’t have been fully liable for this incident, though they should have had some liability for that bone. And then some of that liability might be passed on to whoever provided them with the “boneless” chicken meat.
I’ll admit to mispronouncing her name on occasion myself, but mostly because I associate it with two other figures who did/do pronounce it Ka-MAH-luh. I have to make an effort to get it right for her. But I am making that effort. And I have little doubt that these assholes are not.
I’m kind of afraid that I’ll mispronounce it in mixed company and make someone who doesn’t know me well think I’m one of those weird Republicans or something.
I have a friend I’ve had since high school with that name and with that spelling who pronounced it a different way (closer to ‘camera’), so I go there for a second sometimes without realizing it, but correct myself quickly enough.
I actually said it wrong in that way the other day even though I usually get it right without having to think about it too much. It happens. Once we start hearing it all the time it’ll be easy, but in the meantime it may help to think of it as being “Kamla” which comes out sounding just the same.
You’re right of course it’s racism, he knows his audience. But his schoolyard bully tactics always make fun of the unfamiliar, perhaps you mean Anglo sounding?
Because I’m pretty sure he would make fun of his own family name (Drumpf) if it belonged to an opponent. And I can’t imagine it would be any better if they were named Nieminen (Finish) or Svobodova (Czech) or Nikolakopoulos (Greek) etc. Same with first names.
I guess “Hillary Clinton” and “Joe Biden” are hard to mispronounce without making it sound even more obvious than he likes to be, so he took the opportunity.
Regarding the plan to give parents more voting power by assigning them an extra vote for each of their children, which parent gets to cast those extra votes? If I have three kids, do I get to cast four votes, or do they get split between me and my wife? Somehow I doubt he is suggesting that mothers get all this extra voting power, right? I’m sure the couch fucker believes that it’s a husband’s duty to officiate these extra votes for his family. Actually, I’m sure he thinks a husband should preside over his wife’s vote as well.
I’m so fucking confused. Trump usually has good insults that actually stick. But literally nothing is sticking. All of Trump’s insults vs Kamala though are so lame.
I’m pretty happy about this though. Trump workshopping insults and shot gunning his incompetence and inability to actually pull Kamala down is great for everyone.
“Lying Ted Cruz” worked fine. Except “Lying Kamala” is obviously just recycling an old insult and speaks more to Trump’s limited vocabulary rather than something good. Etc. etc. etc. I’m sure Trump will eventually find something and run with it, but… crazy to see him fail at workshopping a response when he’s literally had years to prepare an obvious insult for Kamala.
Making fun of name pronunciation makes it sound like Trump is a 78 year old who can’t learn how to say a name. This is NOT the path Trump wants to go. Kamala isn’t even an exotic or difficult to say name.
I’m honestly surprised he has so little. I mean, not to give that piece of shit ideas, but “Commie Kamala” is right there. Even “Crooked Kamala” would work better than what he’s tried.
I saw a clip of him where he called her “Laffin’ Kamala” and then stopped to specify that he was spelling it L-A-F-F-I-N-apostrophe. It’s hard to remember last time I felt so much cringe.
As much as everyone was making fun of Bidens loss of function (which… Biden always tripped up over words. He always was a bad speaker)… Trumps wit has visibly declined over the recent years.
It’s possible that Trump just can’t come up with a reasonable insult due to his advanced age. IMO, Trumps signs of aging are worse than even Bidens.
Crooked was Hilary Clintons nickname. So same problem as Lying: it is proof of Trumps small vocabulary if he recycles an insult.
Unfortunately the (lack of) cleverness matters little when his zealots/cultists started wearing adult diapers in public because “real men wear diapers” or something.
Idk about those theories and I’ve only read the post title, but like, tbf would you be surprised if he did? I mean, it is going to happen sometime, likely sooner than later, he’s elderly, and didn’t I just see “biden has covid” in the news right before he dropped out? Dead I’d doubt, we’d hear the news pretty fast I’d guess, but dying (even a bit more than “aren’t we all”)? Yeah, probably kinda. We get old, we die, it’s natural.
Khan, who oversaw the FTC’s ban on noncompete agreements, has drawn the ire of corporate groups … saying Khan was against “almost anything” business wants to do to grow efficiently.
Riiiight. “Business growing efficiently” sounds like a really bad meme, with NDA and layoff texts covering the whole panel and Trump screaming “YOU’RE FIRED!!”
