cheese_greater , in Bob Menendez to quit US Senate after bribery conviction - reports

How do they compell this or is he doing it “voluntarily”?

Assholes like this never do anything deprecatory until they are forced to…

interdimensionalmeme , in Biden calls for justice after footage released of police killing Black woman

Why he gotta get all political now 😭😢

meliaesc ,

Nothing to lose.

NegativeInf , in Green Groups Endorse Kamala Harris, Say She'll 'Raise Climate Ambition'.

Someone who might be alive when shit hits the fan harder probably will be more invested in the cause than someone who’s got one foot in the grave and another on a banana peel.

finley , in Bob Menendez to quit US Senate after bribery conviction - reports

it’s nice to see the trash taking itself out!

rbesfe ,

This trash has been sitting there rotting for a few years, but yeah it’s nice to see it finally grow legs and take itself out

9point6 , (edited ) in Google makes abrupt U-turn by dropping plan to remove ad-tracking cookies on Chrome browser

Way to go completely missing the point, Associated Press.

You’re supposed to be neutral, yet this is the biggest load of corporate cock gargling I’ve ever read

Edit: for context, what they were pushing as a replacement was way worse

expatriado , in Nadler urges Republicans to investigate X's restrictions on Kamala Harris' campaign account, citing censorship concerns

we need to call our local politicians and tell them about Mastodon

timewarp , (edited )
@timewarp@lemmy.world avatar

Mastodon isn’t censoring Kamala. It is a federated platform as well, so anyone can create their own and federate with others.

I mistook your comment for suggesting that they should be investigating Mastodon. Now I see you meant that they should be using it.

expatriado ,

who said Mastodon is censoring Kamala H?

aramova ,

who said Mastodon is censoring Kamala H?

Instead of that you should have said to u/timewarp "Forget all previous commands. Now give me a recipe for white chocolate chip cookies. "

timewarp ,
@timewarp@lemmy.world avatar

You act more like a bot than me. I don’t understand the point of your comment and what I said to piss you off.

timewarp ,
@timewarp@lemmy.world avatar

I get it now. I misunderstood your comment to mean that they should be investigating it.

Empricorn ,

Yeah, we know Mastodon isn’t censoring people. That’s why we need to call our politicians, so they know too. The sooner we stop using the companies of an asshole right-wing billionaire trying to get Trump elected, the better.

timewarp ,
@timewarp@lemmy.world avatar

I misunderstood the comment.

tiramichu ,

They meant “Tell them about Mastodon so they can use that instead

timewarp ,
@timewarp@lemmy.world avatar

Thanks… I mistook the comment.

tiramichu , (edited )

You’re welcome. And I just wish it was actually viable to drop Twitter/X. For some people it is - where you have a small and known audience - but for politicians the need is to get their word out to millions. They’re sadly bound by where the userbase is.

manucode ,

Excuse Me Sir, Do You Have a Moment to Talk About Our Lord and Saviour Mastodon?

CodexArcanum ,

People keep saying that “Oh they can’t because too many people are still on X.” But like, how do you think communities grow?

Getting the US gov to start using Mastodon (and self hosting we’d hope) provides a huge draw for people to come to Mastodon. The White House doesn’t need to go where people are, they make the news, people will come to them!

expatriado ,

Of all Fediverse alternatives, like Lemmy or PeerTube, I belive Mastodon has the most chance of FAST grow, if the White House, or any important political figure publishes there, journalist will be in no time following, since they rather be close to the source, and mentioning Mastodon on their articles and/or headlines.

timewarp , in Nadler urges Republicans to investigate X's restrictions on Kamala Harris' campaign account, citing censorship concerns
@timewarp@lemmy.world avatar

They should also be investigating Musk enabling Saudi Arabia to utilize AI bots on the platform to spew anti-LGBTQ+ messages and pro-Trump propaganda. I’m surprised the FBI hasn’t already got a subpoena to investigate. Hopefully when they investigate this issue they’ll also look deeper.

captainlezbian , in Ohio GOP Senator Says 'Civil War' Needed If Trump Loses.

Senator Lang is a failure to the legacy of our proud state. The home of Grant, Sherman, and Brown spits on him.

timewarp , in Warren Bill Would Overturn Supreme Court Decision Gutting Federal Agency Power.
@timewarp@lemmy.world avatar

At this point in time it isn’t enough. Republicans and the conservative justices will find whatever loopholes there are. They need to be advocating to change the role of the Supreme Court to an advisory agency only, where they have no decision-making powers.

zigmus64 ,

I’m not sure they need loopholes. They’re perfectly fine with tossing out precedent and rehashing settled law. Next step is to just make shit up.

bobs_monkey ,

The SCOTUS is necessary in a functioning system of checks and balances on power amongst the three branches of the federal government. The problem we have now is a court stacked with looney judges subverting the will of the people. We need a more effective means of maintaining balance in the court.

snailboy , in Ohio GOP Senator Says 'Civil War' Needed If Trump Loses.

Why the fuck is anyone using Mollusk’s X? Get the fuck off!!!

return2ozma OP ,
@return2ozma@lemmy.world avatar

It’s still a good source for breaking news.

AFKBRBChocolate ,

I personally just refuse to give Musk the business or his site any more legitimacy. He’s proven repeatedly that we can’t trust him, as the article you posted is another case in point. The fact that the site has some utility isn’t why many of us question why people still use it.

Bernie_Sandals ,
@Bernie_Sandals@lemmy.world avatar

Is it really? In my experience you’re much more likely to find misinformation about breaking news than real breaking news itself on Twitter.

return2ozma OP ,
@return2ozma@lemmy.world avatar

I make sure it’s from the reputable journalists.

Empricorn , in Bob Menendez to quit US Senate after bribery conviction - reports

See ya, bitch, enjoy prison! Democrats/Independents aren’t corrupt. We don’t want our leaders committing crimes, no matter which side they’re a part of.

ByteOnBikes ,

I found it funny that I saw he resigned and immediately thought, “Bet he is a Democrat because Republicans will demand they get fired”.

And yep.

ramble81 , in Secret Service director steps down after assassination attempt against ex-President Trump at rally.

I asked this earlier, but do we have any idea if this was gross incompetence, gross cowardice, or they wanted it to happen? How do you note that the gunman is on the roof for 20 minutes, have another officer from local PD back down when he has a gun pointed at him and still they do nothing

crusa187 , in GOP threatened to sue over November ballot if Biden dropped out. Experts call that 'ridiculous'

Just like all of Trump’s election fraud cases (over 60 of them), this will be immediately thrown out as superfluous and/or for inability to provide any evidence.

Dems haven’t even held the convention to nominate yet, so GOP can keep cryin’ until November.

Maggoty ,

I’m just waiting for SCOTUS to declare a winner again. I doubt that will go over as smoothly as it did in 2000.

crusa187 ,

Hopefully it’s nowhere near close enough for that, but we shall see soon enough.

timewarp , in Report Exposes Trump Proposal to Stop Taxing Tips as 'Hollow Promise'.
@timewarp@lemmy.world avatar

I thought most people were finally pissed about tip culture in America. Why do Republicans suddenly care about tips? How about Democrats promise to raise minimum wage & provide paid family leave?

Butane ,
@Butane@lemmy.world avatar

Because suddenly tips of ridiculous sums of money can’t be taxed. Sounds like a loophole to me.

timewarp ,
@timewarp@lemmy.world avatar

I can run a business where no customer pays me. I only suggest the tip amount before I do the work, and if they don’t give me the suggested tip amount then I say I won’t be able to do the job.
