on Record

They didn’t keep track.

Eww ,

Ahhh, so the event that wiped out nearly all life on earth wasn’t the hottest day. It’s like saying dinosaurs didn’t exist because we didn’t record it.

samus12345 ,
@samus12345@lemmy.world avatar

No, it’s saying that the article is referring to recorded human history, because that’s what’s actually relevant.

The2b ,

What tempatures do we have on record from pre-historic times?

marine_mustang , in Bob Menendez to quit US Senate after bribery conviction - reports

“Never violated my public oath” is not the same as “I never committed these crimes.”

finley ,

out of curiosity, did his public oath, at any time, contain any coticil about not committing crimes? if it didn’t, it probably should.

expatriado , in Bob Menendez to quit US Senate after bribery conviction - reports

ah, resigning, something that Clarence Thomas will never do

SirDerpy , in Green Groups Endorse Kamala Harris, Say She'll 'Raise Climate Ambition'.

She’ll advance the climate progress we’ve made at home and internationally. She’ll raise climate ambition to make sure we confront the climate crisis in a way that makes the country more inclusive, more economically competitive, and more energy secure.

Uh oh, Manish. You said the quiet part out loud. But, you’re right. Harris will far better than Biden or Trump monetize the public’s want to save their environment.

catloaf , in Commission says New York judge should be removed over profane rant at graduation party

It wasn’t even her or her kids’ party. And who hires a bartender and keg for a high school graduation? And as an elected official, why would you stay at this party? There’s so much wrong with this.

snekerpimp , in Report Exposes Trump Proposal to Stop Taxing Tips as 'Hollow Promise'.

CaptainSpaceman , in Commission says New York judge should be removed over profane rant at graduation party

This wasnt profanity, it was racism.

Soft headlines once again for those in power.

NOT_RICK , (edited )
@NOT_RICK@lemmy.world avatar

You’re not wrong, but the AP and Reuters go very far out of their way to not put value judgments in their headlines. They’re the most dry of the dry “just the facts” style of reporting.

CaptainSpaceman ,

But the fact is it wasnt profane unless they said “hell” or “goddamn” or something.

Maybe vulgar to spout racist epithets, but definitely not profane.

mozz ,
@mozz@mbin.grits.dev avatar

It was profane, but that wasn’t the part that made it a big deal. She told the police to shoot the black teenagers, and when they said no we are definitely not doing that, she told them she had their back as far as protecting them if they did, and then after that said fine she would do it herself then.

Writing the headline without that in mind, I think, is at least a little misleading.

jonne ,

Yeah, I don’t think a lot of people would’ve supported her removal if she just dropped some f-bombs. The reason was the racism, and that should’ve been in the headline.

cm0002 ,

I know I wasn’t, until I came into the article and it was the racism part they were removing her over lol

xmunk , in Warren Bill Would Overturn Supreme Court Decision Gutting Federal Agency Power.

Everyone: Cops are FUCKIN corrupt the whole system is dirty as fuck

Cops: This white lady in authority is out of her damn mind, no I am not arresting anybody I just want to get these kids their keys so everyone can be on about their business

System: Hey yeah she’s racist as fuck let’s get rid of her

(Just want to poke another hole in the ACAB narrative… this story includes some quotes from the cops on the scene telling the judge to STFU and they weren’t planning to arrest anybody and please to calm the fuck down so they could resolve everything and leave.)

Empricorn ,

It’s definitely a sign when there’s so few stories about police not escalating things and shooting unarmed minorities that when it happens you point to the story and say “See!? Everything’s great!!!”

And yet Jan6th folks get less for sedition.

tiefling , in Google makes abrupt U-turn by dropping plan to remove ad-tracking cookies on Chrome browser

I’m a frontend focused SWE. I suspect the main reason this was abandoned is because it caused technical hell. This has been enabled in incognito mode for a while and has caused a lot of issues with things like fetching profile pictures. For example, if you were on a google.com page that used images hosted on gstatic, they would fail to load because gstatic is “technically” a third party, even though both are Google owned. There are sorta ways around it but the nature of the Internet makes it stupidly annoyingly difficult and causes a lot of stuff to break.

Good idea on paper, but really difficult to implement without breaking the Internet.

lemmylommy ,

Well, using gstatic.com instead of something like static.google.com has always been a stupid idea.

tiefling ,

That’s just one example, the Internet is littered with similar things

xmunk , in Former US Army civilian employee sentenced to 15 years for stealing nearly $109 million

If you’re familiar with life on a base stealing from base family services is truly horrific.
