I moved to this area about 12 years ago. I wasn't expecting some huge culture shock, but there it was. I had educated, millennial colleagues who were openly homophobic at work. I could go on with a list of grievances, but it just feels like piling on and I don't have the option to get out.
I'm definitely not an authority on the situation but from what I gather it's very much like the relationship between the US and native nations here. There are treaties and agreements and so on... but the US is very selective about actually giving a shit and more often than not will err on the side of ignoring anything that happens on a reservation.
The same seems to be true between the Aussie government and the Indigenous peoples, but there are nuances there that my white American ass is nowhere near qualified to go into.
If there’s no amplification (extra representatives) or any real enforcement, isn’t it just kind of performative? Like I’m sure we bring ‘relevant’ voices in to testify before congress, but do you think it moves votes?

Just got ours yesterday along with the flu vaccine and I’m still a little weak and ran a slight fever. We were at the pharmacy for an hour (don’t know what took them so long) but there was literally no one else getting any immunizations. Maybe we were just lucky that a new shipment came in.
Oh please with the righteous indignation. Politicians of both parties just don’t like the vital anti-capitalist messaging on the platform that goes against the K-College and Major Media “the boot will set you free” capitalist propaganda doctrine.
They need American children to grow to fight eachother over red vs. blue social wedges that provide the illusion of choice and keep them divided while the capitalists exploit their productivity, rob them blind, and continue to control economic policy through the Republicans and Neoliberal middle managers the oligarchs fully own.
We need to stop these channels manipulating our youth into scrutinizing our inscrutible “free” market, after all.
What our children need to know is that the oligarchs job creators acting out of insatiable, sociopathic greed rational self-interest will rain prosperity down on all of us as long as we protect our beloved society economy, and capitalist practices will save humanity from our many crises of completely unknowable origins… like climate change! But beware the unproductive filthy takers, as they will greedily lower your local property values with their continued selfish existence in cardboard boxes under freeways. They’re the real villains.
For anyone else, just report accounts like these and move on. Don't waste your time trying to engage with someone that has no intention of engaging in any good faith.
Let's not write support of antidemocratic fascism off as a mental illness. They are terrible hateful people who are ignorant of many things, but generally quite sane. Unlike the mentally incompetent they deserve the consequences of their behaviors.
