lightnsfw , in AOC files articles of impeachment against Supreme Court Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito

Lets all hold our breath while we wait for something to actually happen because of this.

HotsauceHurricane ,

I still appreciate that its happening.

stoly ,

It’s a public repudiation in a way that is extraordinarily rare and highly symbolic. Nothing may change but shots have been fired across bows.

Verito ,

We’re well past it meaning anything. These rebukes, reprimands, and censures are political theater. Fascists laugh when you use the rigged system against them.

lightnsfw ,

We are long past the point where these assholes give a shit about symbolism or warning shots.

Asafum ,

Fucking seriously…

“We’re” stuck in the same stupid fucking mindset the founding morons were where they relied on shame and integrity when designing our government…

We’re dealing with a party that only believes “might makes right” and we’re wagging our fingers at them as if they give a shit at all…

lightnsfw ,

How they haven’t learned this lesson after 10 years of “OMG can you believe Trump did XXXXXX!” posts every single day I will never understand.

HotsauceHurricane , in AOC files articles of impeachment against Supreme Court Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito

I think 25-65 is a good age requirement.

2484345508 ,

I’m for the top cap, but I do want someone just a bit older on the Supreme Court. 35 is the age for presidency. I’m good with 35-65 with an 8 year maximum term.

stoly ,

You can definitely remain a successful intellectual later in life. Staying on top of the fast moving stuff is probably harder when you’re older.

2484345508 ,

Agreed. But we can’t test them.

HubertManne ,

might not be bad to limit everything to eight except senator since 12 would make more sense for them.

Newsflash: Joe Biden is a corporate Democrat. For 40+ years.

distantsounds , in Donald ‘I Know Nothing About Project 2025’ Trump Said He’s ‘Bringing Back’ Project 2025 Contributor

Idk how the media still doesn’t know how to deal with trump. If they just start headlines with: “trump lies again, this time about _______”

…but alas the circus is profitable

catloaf ,

Plus, he’ll sue every time that happens, making them waste money on lawyers and court costs.

Kecessa ,

“Was Trump lying? […]”

Can’t sue if it’s a question!

You can even add “again” and mention an example of him saying he never said something that has actually been recorded.

catloaf ,

You can sue for anything. It’ll still take time to get thrown out.

Viking_Hippie ,

Worst case scenario, the lawyers they already have on retainer get it thrown out of court, since truth is an absolute defense against libel charges.

BEST case, they get a judge Aileen Cannon type judge who’s actually crazy enough to let it go to trial. There’s no better publicity possible for a news outlet than fighting for free speech in court against a wannabe dictator.

lemmeout , in The grift behind Project 2025: Leader John McEntee made an app to hustle cash from lonely MAGA men

That’s what Trump is, but see how that turned out 😬

PenisWenisGenius , in Colorado public health officials confirm new case of human plague

“The” plague? As in, the OG plague to end all plagues from the 1300s? Fuuuuuuuuuucccckkkk.

On second thought with the way society is running right now, the end times might be an improvement 🤷

the_post_of_tom_joad ,

If it’s the black death, that’s the best news I’ve heard today cuz anribiotics work just fine.

for now

RedAggroBest ,

Yea, people here get the plague from rodents like prairie dogs “all” (uncommon but not unheard of) the time here (Northern AZ) and it’s just treated with antibiotics.

PenisWenisGenius ,

EnderWiggin , in Russia will try to influence 2024 election to boost a past preferred candidate, US officials say

A past preferred candidate? Trump has been a straight up Russian stooge since the fucking 1980s. I am so sick of the media tip toeing around this shit. Gee, I wonder if it’s because more than half the media was bought by the same handful of right-wing douchebags that are promoting Trump and Russian interests. The real coup happened in 2016.

Throw_away_migrator ,

2484345508 , (edited ) in Hundreds Say Nebraska Group Tricked Them Into Signing Anti-Abortion Ballot

Sign the “my body my choice” law. It allows you to choose where you can have an abortion. Tacked onto it, in small text, is a law that bans abortions. But hey, at least you could choose if you had those rights. Freedumb

activ8r ,

I come to you as a very tired woman with little faith in the system. I have read your comment and dread the response to my question… You’re making that up right? That’s just a joke… Right?

shalafi , in A Black man got a job interview after he changed the name on his resume. Now, he’s suing for discrimination | CNN

Middle-aged white guy here. First and last names, total white bread. Middle name? Black. Think “Tyrone” or “Trevon”. (LOL, Trevon shows a spell check error on one of the top 20 black male names.)

Couldn’t get a response on my resume for 6-weeks, nada. Changed the email to take out my middle name. Next week, 3 interviews and a solid job.

Had a black neighbor with a valley girl accent show up to an interview. 8 white girls waiting for their interviews. They showed her the door and said there was a mistake, no openings. She eventually got hired since her preacher was a top dog at the place.

DragonTypeWyvern ,

The good thing about racists is that they’re fucking stupid. Just interview the person and say nothing instead of making up an obvious lie.

chunkystyles ,

But what if the interview goes well… Then what? We can’t just hire them. Then we’ll be forced to maybe face… Something. Not sure exactly what…

rottingleaf ,

Just interview the person and say nothing instead of making up an obvious lie.

You don’t get it, they consider this a humiliation inflicted by them on someone they want, well, humiliated. Eh, and sometimes it is true.

morphballganon ,

8 white girls waiting for their interviews. They showed her the door and said there was a mistake, no openings.

This is baffling. She could clearly see the other girls, yeah? All applying for the same position?

How do you dismiss one candidate in front of others, and say there are no openings? I don’t get it.

Seleni ,

They just didn’t finish the sentence. ‘There are no openings for someone of your heritage.’

feedum_sneedson ,

It might not be true.

Malfeasant ,

Surely nobody would go on the internet and tell lies…

shalafi ,

I heard the man from the church and his wife discussing with them in the driveway. Take that as you will.

shalafi ,

Well maybe she misread the room? 🤔

Arrives for the interview and there are 8 white girls, in scrubs, in the waiting room. Also, the person who was to take her in the back for the interview was visibly shocked.

My wife is a Filipino and I’m shocked at what she’s encountered in interviews.

“Are you Mexican or Asian?” Visible disgust at Asian.

“Are you a Christian? Oh. A Catholic. You have to attend our church every Sunday or we won’t hire you.”

Bonus points: Her first name is sorta black sounding. Told her to work around that somehow. Because I had to.

old.lemmy.world/comment/11105265

Jumpingspiderman ,

I have a Latin surname. I am sure it’s cost me in some circles. But in others it’s an advantage. At least for me I think it kind of evens out.

Ilovemyirishtemper ,

Yeah, me too. I’m a white woman with an Asian last name and a gender neutral first name. Honestly, I think my gender neutral first name opens more doors for me than the Asian last name closes.

intensely_human ,

LOL, Trevon shows a spell check error on one of the top 20 black male names

My autocorrect replaces “human” with “juman”! wtf
