I’ll agree that a gross majority of american police is deserving of simply being fired and criminally accused of any number of crimes but there are good people working as police and the option to not have police, at all, would lead to even worse results than this.
It’s a country with a very long and convoluted relation with firearms. The entire american ethos still echoes around the image of the cowboy and pioneer pushing troubles aside and delivering justice at gun point.
Remove the police and you’d see the rise of private “security” and people mowing down each other in broad day light.
Generally, no, there aren’t good people working as police.
There have been good people that work for the police - and, when they discover incidents like these, will criticize and lambast the murderers at work (because good people tend to criticize murderers). However, police unions tend to fire good people like that. So there’s good ex-cops out there, but not good cops.
Yeah, that will be the cop’s defense, she was attempting to assault the cop with a deadly weapon.
Still fucking shitty though. If they really wanted to stop her from leaving, just park the police cruiser in front of her car. Or let her leave and get her tags. They had options. Maybe her family will sue since the cop stepped in front of the car.
Her family will sue, and win, for deprivation of life. The city will foot the bill, paid for by taxpayers. The police will investigate themselves and find no wrongdoing, and will face no penalty from the civil suit. Check back in a few weeks where we’ll do this again!
I don’t believe for a second that she was "trying " to run over the cop. She just wanted to leave and he put himself in harms way. He could have very easily stepped to the side and not murder her and her unborn child.
lol why do idiots always say this? no one NEEDS to use viagra - ever. Can’t get it up? deal with it. But half of the population NEEDS menstrual products, or there will be blood everywhere and that’s a biohazard.
Or condoms, except in many states condoms actually are subject to sales tax like most other goods. Prescription drugs in general aren’t subject to sales tax, which is why Viagra wasn’t, same as birth control pills, insulin, blood thinners, etc.
Yeah, but it sounds more like a special imposition placed on women for being women if we talk about the “tampon tax” instead of arguing about whether or not there should be special cutouts on sales tax for products used primarily or exclusively by women.
This is going to force my dad to confront his mortality again. It’s not going to be good. I remember long ago him being stressed about “a pirate looks at 40”.
To be fair I got stressed from “A Pirate Looks at 40” when I was like…24.
Love that song though. Don’t know if it would help your dad but whenever I get down about mortality I find comfort in this thought - Any small act of good can have a profound effect on the world long after you’re gone, and knowing I might already have some unknown and silent legacy, selfishly, makes me feel better about leaving the world before accomplishing everything I’d hope to.
I’m 46. I always joke that I’m old, but I haven’t felt as old as I felt in a while this morning when I found out a friend I’ve had since high school had a daughter who just turned 19. I still can’t get over the fact that my daughter’s 13. But an actual adult daughter? How did we get so old?
There has been quite a few poisonings of Putin’s critics here in the UK, with good evidence of Russian state involvement. Poison leaves a distinctive trace. Pushing someone out of a window appears to be more in favour now, as there is less forensic evidence, depending on how much force is required for the involuntary defenestration.
I find this article weird, I can’t think of anyone I know who currently has COVID, and despite the fact most people are going around maskless things seem pretty quiet on the viral front. This makes it seem like just everyone has COVID. I realize numbers are going back up but I don’t think it’s quite like they make it out?
I will still be masking until the dawn of time and am at six shots and counting. I absolutely do not understand why anyone stopped masking.
I work in a hospital. We have a scattered handful of people who are there for something else and also have a mild case of COVID, but nobody unvaccinated on a vent or ECMO or anything.
It’s not that surprising. “Only” about 0.2 % - 2 % get infected per week (depending on where you are), so there got to be some people who don’t know anyone who got it recently.
I’m sure there’s some Republican politician someplace in Texas saying that women have the ability to shut their periods down if they try, and they don’t need socialist tampons.
Since every other law is attempting to force women to be stay at home moms, men are having to foot the bill for menstrual products, and we can’t be burdening men with such women problems.
OR Republican Texas men don’t know what tampons are for because sex ed in Texas, so the women who sponsored it lied and said it’s for babies.
Looking at the bill, a brief glance would make it seem that all it does is eliminate taxes for some stuff. You’d have to actually read it to find out what stuff it eliminates taxes on, which most Republicans won’t do. They see fewer taxes and they vote yes.
When you’re really fucking shitty, people have a hard time saying nice things about you. Or even thinking that you actually did that “nice” thing for nefarious reasons.
Still doesn’t make sense. Any man with a kid and half a clue knows that they don’t bleed when they’re pregnant. Thus, tampons are only necessary when women aren’t fulfilling their wifely duties, barefoot and pregnant.
I mean, it really was seeming like the GOP wants every woman to be carrying their spawn (against their will) from menarche to menopause.
I really want to have a positive outlook about this type of thing because I do want to help people. That being said there is nothing stopping retail from marking the price back up to what it would’ve been with the sales tax and just pocketing the extra.
