To be fair, this statement I made incorrect in a way:
No. Bail is collateral if a person fails to appear.
It’s loosely (or more so) implies something that is somewhat incorrect. In a way, implies that bail is only for collateral. And that’s not true either. As you mentioned. The fact that bail can be forfeited for numerous things all lends a secondary purpose of insuring that not only they appear, but also comply with other terms of their bail.
I didn’t mean to imply that was it’s only purpose. I meant to imply it was the primarily purpose, but most importantly I meant to make a distinction between revocation and forfeiture.
Average 170k in pay -and benefits- isn’t a clear thing at all.

What are they including in the “benefits” that don’t actually provide material support or savings for the majority of workers?
For example, my company pays for (bundled with some other dumb service nobody uses) a suite of dumb lifestyle “self help” tools that are actually much worse than free tools, access to which they consider a benefit to me and thus part of my benefit package and total comp, even though it definitely isn’t useful in any way.
Additionally, due to churn, they usually have more entry level, so what is the mode pay for drivers? Mean average (what’s almost always used unless specified) can easily be used to make this look a lot better than it is if a few lifers make bank.
Turnover is high. Some guys quit outright, others from injury or to many accidents. Quite a lot are about to retire at my hub. I have about 10 more years left to go before I hang them up, so the next contract will be the last I have to worry about. I’m just glad they finally took care of the unsung heroes: the part timers. The past 20 years, they’ve been neglected. Not with SOB running the show. That was a hill he was gonna die on.

It’s so sad that red states create these policies just to undermine their own population. All this will do is create brain drain. If you’re a bus driver or teacher in Kentucky you can make way more money in blue states. Why stay? I know you love your community, but they don’t love you.
I believe they gave a consulting firm $200k to come up with the plan that failed. They tried to get away with fewer busses and drivers because they didn’t raise wages enough.
They literally tried everything except paying drivers what they need. Now they’re fucked.
Bullshit. I’m in a blue state and there are so few drivers that the busses alternate routes weekly… Every other week there’s no bus for a route. Parents are stuck driving their kids to school and picking them up.
If there"s one thing I love but am perpetually frustrated by, it’s how slow the US legal system is. Yes, “finally.” OTOH, citizens have rights and one of them is innocence until guilt is judged, and also that we try really hard to not let the general public, under the influence of the 5th Estate, be that judge. It’s super frustrating when it’s obvious to me that the person is guilty. It can also be extremely unbalanced, with people whe can afford better council getting better benefits-of-a-doubt than the poor. But in general, we have a pretty good system which - if I were ever caught in - has protections I’d be grateful for.
I meant finally in that it’s been pretty obvious that he’s been engaging in witness tampering, and they’re finally throwing it at him on that alone. I understand the initial house arrest terms and such as reasonable as long as he didn’t do anything obviously illegal before trial, but it took too long for them to call him on these tampering charges. His FAFO should have happened sooner.
For what it’s worth, a lot of times the reason why these trials take so long is because they are trying to build an airtight case. Kind of the same reason why sometimes you see obvious murderers being treated “well” like that shitstain kid who shot up a school a few years back. They want to make sure there’s no bias, no mistreatment, no cause for mistrial etc. It’s frustrating but I guess I get it.
