I feel the same way. Sometimes I wonder if we are over exaggerating but it really does feel like everything is going to shit at warp speed all of a sudden.

Well vaccines certainly polarized the population

lickmysword , in Months into new job at Amtrak, Andy Byford blasts boss’s Penn Station plans

Sounds like a decent thought and Amtrak is all “that’s too expensive!” But for improving the infrastructure they should either eat the cost or get aid for it.

    ericisshort ,

Nah, Byford is 100% right (as usual) in saying this part of the plan is completely unnecessary.

As someone who uses Penn station every day, there are already a ton of infrastructure improvements in progress, and they will be plenty sufficient without demolishing block 780 (btw 30th & 31st Streets and 7th and 8th Ave). That block also holds the one remaining piece of the original Penn station and a beautiful and historic church, so it would be a real shame to demolish it.

Here’s another article that explains and shows renderings of some of the $1.5b in improvements that are already funded and approved.

FlyingSquid , in Former Catholic priest admits to sexual misconduct with 11-year-old boy he took on beach vacation
    @FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

This excuses nothing, but who lets a priest take their child on a beach trip in another state?

    BadRS ,

Who is still, after all this time, allowing their kids to be alone with priests? At this point they’re more closely associated with raping children than they are with sermons.

MicroWave OP , in Illinois Supreme Court finds assault weapons ban constitutional
    @MicroWave@lemmy.world avatar

In the ruling, which was 4-3, Justice Elizabeth Rochford wrote, “First, we hold that the exemptions neither deny equal protection nor constitute special legislation because plaintiffs have not sufficiently alleged that they are similarly situated to and treated differently from the exempt classes. Second, plaintiffs expressly waived in the circuit court any independent claim that the restrictions impermissibly infringe the second amendment. Third, plaintiffs’ failure to cross-appeal is a jurisdictional bar to renewing their three-readings claim.”

Their liquefying dead bodies and dumping them in the water supply!

Oh those companies that are dumping carcinogens and chemicals that remain in your body forever? That's fine, they're just businessers doing business.

whatisallthis , in Judge Chutkan says Trump’s right to free speech in January 6 case is ‘not absolute’

No one’s right to free speech is absolute. You’re taught this in middle school. Trump should go to jail.

That being said - this is what journalism is now. All you have to do is write an article that will be shared on social media so that people can circle-jerk underneath it.

“Experts say Trump broke the law. Badly.”

Get that on the internet and watch your engagements shoot through the roof with zero effort on your part.

“Anyone paying attention knew this years ago”

“Why is he not in handcuffs already”

“Won’t matter to his supporters. You can’t talk to these people.”

Comments rolling in. Ad revenue rolling in. Media staff members high-fiving as their quarterly goals are met and they are drinking rum and cokes on the clock because how does this shit pass as a journalism gig.

HawlSera , in Pastor alarmed after Trump-loving congregants deride Jesus' teachings as 'weak'

There was actually a study that compared Donald Trump to the biblical Antichrist and the similarities were startling. One of the ones that really fucked with me was how it said that when he shows up, the antichrist, the rivers will be joined to the Lakes, Mar-A-Lago literally means River to Lake.

    Ubermeisters ,

Imagine you are an ancient prophet writing about the end times, and you go to describe the actual damn antichrist, and the best you can come up with is a translation of what the antichrist’s property name meant with zero context lmao.

    HawlSera ,

There were actually several others but that was the one that seen the most eyebrow raising because it was a case of “What are the odds?”

    Fungah ,

Not that bad really. If you throw a bunch of things at the wall some of them will inevitably stick

    HawlSera ,

Still it kept stacking up, I wish I had access to the study, I mean I used to but that was years ago I’m not sure I have the URL anymore.

AllonzeeLV , in ‘Corrupt as hell’: Clarence Thomas faces fresh calls to resign after more billionaire gifts revealed

They were just talking to him, in the form of expensive bribes.

“Money is speech” in this fucked up dystopic cesspool. This is what that means. It was happening long before, but it’s just out in the daylight and fuck the poories that don’t like it since Citizens United.

Live by market capitalism, collapse by market capitalism. The inevitable consequences of the peasants tolerating the economic tyranny of the owner class.
