Pixlbabble , in Two brands suspend advertising on X after their ads appeared next to pro-Nazi content

How about a disclaimer for companies like people have when they play online. “Statements and opinions made by users do not reflect those of X” ESRB for ad companies to get it.

HikingVet ,

Why?

These companies don’t have to do business with twitter.

Now because their logo was next to some Nazi shit when they were promised it wouldn’t be, they are pulling their dollars because of broken promises.

thisbenzingring ,

if there is one thing you can count on from Musk, its broken promises

Pixlbabble ,

Because it’s annoying when a lot of good shit goes to dog shit when ad companies get involved with the creative side of things. Just have it in the contract up front if it’s not already and they can agree to be on the platform all in or all out.

HikingVet ,

Who said the ad companies are making it go to dog shit by not wanting to be seen next to fascist content?

CheeseNoodle ,

Something like that is already in law as a kind of default. Companies are not responsible for the content posted by their users on the basis that no entity could possibly police that much content, with two exceptions:
-Content must be removed if it is illegal and has been specifically pointed out by appropriate authorities for removal.
-If an organisation willingly polices their own content in any way then they also take on responsibility for it.

sndmn ,

How about no.

Mdotaut801 , in Disapproval of Elon Musk is top reason Tesla owners are selling, survey says

Not because teslas are also overpriced piles of shit?

HurlingDurling ,

That come with manufacturing defects from factory as well?

nomadjoanne ,

My understanding is they’re actually really nice. They just spy on you and nickle and dime you to get you to buy extra features.

kent_eh ,

They just spy on you and nickle and dime you to get you to buy extra features.

Those are among the things that fit with my definition of “pile of shit”

Imotali ,
@Imotali@lemmy.world avatar

The top end Tesla loses blow for blow in all bit range (nominally) and charger availability (which is changing) to Porsche… for $4,000 more.

Oh and the Porsche’s frame was formally an ICE so it’s a tried and tested frame that’s received multiple iterations to hone the design.

Tesla’s would be nice if they were priced $15k cheaper… and they’d still be piles of shit that spy on you.

OppositeOfOxymoron ,

The vehicles are decent, the service is terminally putrid. Bad alignment from the factory ruined $5k in tires, Tesla offered me $500 off the cost of replacement.

I took it in for another issue, and when I told the tech about how the car burned through the inside edge of the tires on the car, he said “Yeah, they do that.” and followed it with a recommendation that I get wheel alignments TWICE A YEAR.

MetricIsRight ,

I work in the rim and tire industry. We have anywhere between 10-14 installs a week (just tires or tire and rim packages etc) we deal with a LOT of Tesla’s. They ALL do this. Alignments barely help, they are heavy cars with very poor suspension geometry. I know for the model S there was an aftermarket company that made a kit to fix the excessive camber in the rear to alleviate the tire wear issue but I’m not too sure on other models. I see and work on at least 3 Tesla’s a week, seeing what I’ve seen, even if someone offered me one for free. I would trade it for another EV.

OppositeOfOxymoron ,

I get that the cars are heavy, but the tires should wear evenly - 80,000lb tractor trailers don’t burn through the inside edge of tires at 25% of their usable life… As far as suspension is concerned, they did replace parts in the rear to allow them to better adjust the alignment, and I’ve put fewer miles on the vehicle this year, plus had a warranty repair that required re-aligning all tires again… But I’m going to be super pissed if it happens a second time.

YaaAsantewaa , in Target says backlash against LGBTQ+ Pride merchandise hurt sales

It’s not the backlash that hurt their sales, it was them being cowards and removing displays that tanked their sales because everyone saw them being cowards and kneeling down to psycho conservatives.

Stand by your principles or you’ll just anger everyone

moody ,

Exactly. They pissed off bigots by putting up the pride displays, and pissed off progressives by taking them down. They couldn’t pick one side, so they angered both.

gAlienLifeform ,
@gAlienLifeform@lemmy.world avatar

They couldn’t pick one side

Classic Target, really

“While I firmly believe that a business climate conducive to growth is critical to our future, I realize our decision affected many of you in a way I did not anticipate, and for that I am genuinely sorry,” Steinhafel wrote.

He added, “The diversity of our team is an important aspect of our unique culture and our success as a company, and we did not mean to disappoint you, our team or our valued guests.”

Gay rights activists and loyal Target shoppers were furious with the company after it contributed $150,000 to MN Forward , a political group that has endorsed and is paying for ads for the Republican gubernatorial candidate Tom Emmer.

Emmer, who will face the winner of the Democratic gubernatorial primary and an independent candidate in the general election this November.

I’m gonna skip over Emmer’s endorsement of a Christian rock band that basically called for gay people to be executed because this quote has already gotten kind of long, but there’s one other bit that jumped out at me here,

Large corporations have only recently been legally allowed to contribute to campaign advertising, after the Supreme Court in January reversed a century of campaign finance reform that had limited the money that could be spent by private companies and unions.

The more I think about this, the more it seems like Citizens United and the floodgates of campaign and general politicking cash that it dumped on all of us and the way it basically forced corporations into these donations as a way to maintain the kind of political access their competitors get (no corp wants to be the only one not donating when they need a favor) really explains so much of the political and cultural insanity we’ve seen since 2010

moody , in Entire police department in Minnesota resigns

I generally agree with the ACAB sentiment, but they were being paid $22 an hour which is a pittance. I wouldn’t do the job for that salary either.

Madison420 ,

Pay depends on the area, if everyone else is making 13 then 22 is a kings salary. Should it work that way at this point? No but it does and being a cop statistically is less dangerous than my job.

nsfw_only ,

It’s not just the raw danger it’s also the shit you have to deal with. I can’t imagine the stress of it. I wouldn’t do it.

Not to mention with this acab bullshit it’s even less than thankless.

I have a client who was responsible for recruitment for the local police and she said it was difficult to find people, which leads to worse conditions, more overtime, and more stress for everyone in the department.

_wintermute ,

Not to mention with this acab bullshit it’s even less than thankless.

Oh right we should be thanking cops for giving us traffic tickets when we just watched them blow through the same stop sign. We should be thanking them for murdering minorities in over policed neighborhoods. negativeyoda ,
