Since this change from google I have constant buffering issues on my home invidious instance, need to try updating my docker when I get home.

Been replaying through Y’s VII: Lacrimosa of Dana. Such a great JRPG and Falcoms sound team was absolutely on point for this title.

I had messed around with various distros in the mid 2000’s but never more than a day. Just as a “this seems neat” kinda thing. Recently I wised up, tried Zorin OS was on that for a year, then went back to windows for a while. now I’m running EndeavorOS and there isn’t even a windows partition on this machine, I will not be going back. Still debating setting up QEMU for the only windows only program I miss though.

This week in KDE: Plasma bug fixes and UI improvements (pointieststick.com)

The bug-fixing continued this week with the aim of getting Plasma 6.0.3 into a great state. Already the big bugs you folks found have almost all been fixed, and this week a lot of time was spent on some X11 regressions and various crashes that our new automatic crash reporting system was able to find (thanks for submitting...

Wayland is still unusable for me. Was happily running Wayland in 5.27 But have encountered nothing but issues in 6.0, main one being performing any sort of action with animations, scrolling, opening notifications etc causes the desktop frame rate to pummet, sometimes even hitting zero. All AMD build as well. I’ll keep checking back to see if it’s fixed but I’m too new to Linux to do any real sleuthing. X11 has been working fine in the meantime.

Was hoping someone else caught that it was a S130 in the photo.

Awesome shot! We have a couple of these Pileated Woodpeckers in my neck of B.C. as well. They’re quite timid though, only seem to be able to catch them leaving our yard.

This makes me even more excited to properly test my latest lens acquisition come spring, a 300mm F4.5 in beautiful shape :)

MetricIsRight ,

Could turn it into a emulation box, play some classics.

MetricIsRight ,

Will definitely be checking some of these out!

MetricIsRight ,

I want to believe that your joking…but sadly I think I know better by now…

MetricIsRight ,

Thank you for reminding me of Material Shell, I tried it years ago on an older build of Zorin OS and it crashed constantly. Excited to give it another whirl, and great to see he’s working on the same concept with a new implementation,

Pixel 7 Pro here, haven’t seen this at all, it’s just dead space for me.

Damn that looks good, now I gotta go buy more kimchi as it never lasts long in our house.

Ending support for Windows 10 could send 240 million computers to the landfill. Why not install Linux on them? (gadgettendency.com)

With support ending for Windows 10, the most popular desktop operating system in the world currently, possibly 240 million pcs may be sent to the landfill. This is mostly due to Windows 11’s exorbitant requirements. This will most likely result in many pcs being immediately outdated, and prone to viruses. GNU/Linux may be...

MetricIsRight ,

Yep. Came across a computer recently still running Windows 2000 on it. Fan sounded like a truck with a bad lifter tick 😂

Windows 11 forgetting my Bluetooth controllers constantly is part of the reason I switched to Linux.

Just in case anyone is looking to have their adult content streamable but kept separate from Plex/Jellyfish etc check out Stash, really easy to spin up a container. Works well, bit rough around the edges though.

Games with characters you miss most after completion.

It’s a bitter sweet feeling afterward, but I love it when a game has characters where, after the game is over, I miss seeing a part of their lives. Be it due to the characters themselves or the interaction they have with one another, exiting their world feels more like a loss than when normally putting a story away....

Not a week goes by that I don’t think about Y’s 8 at some point. It was my first entry into the series, it took my restarting 4 times before I got a “feel” for it and got sucked into the story. I am so glad I did. One of my all time favourite series now. Currently playing through Origins waiting for the English and hopefully PC release of Nordics

Considering where I live like 80% of our power generation is from hydro-electric dams, yep. I do this every day.

MetricIsRight ,

Yeah, Western Canada.

MetricIsRight ,

Can confirm, it’s been a long time since I’ve been this repulsed by an image of food. All that Cilantro…why? Why does it have to taste like iron and hot garbage to me?

MetricIsRight ,

Just think of the Duck Tales intro song, that should at least replace it.

MetricIsRight ,

Gargoyles consistently slips under people’s radar and that’s so sad, as it was such a great cartoon. I mean who doesn’t want Jonathan Frakes voicing the big bad?

MetricIsRight ,

Got way too much on the go right now.

  • Baldur’s Gate 3
  • Astroneer
  • Ion Fury
  • Timberborn
  • Sea Of Stars

Ohh god, I just turned off Necromunda: Hired Gun. I love Warhammer, and grim dark but as for a long live in Necromunda? Not a chance.

It should be illegal to scan or redeem your lotto tickets before 9am. Some people are just trying to get to work, but nooope, gotta wait behind the superstitious lady who only wants every second scratch&win with a serial number that ends in 2 or some crap.

I work in the rim and tire industry so I find this really interesting. Haven’t seen either of those two brands before where I am, but most cheaper brands nowadays are all made at the same two or three locations and just get a different name stamped into the sidewall.

MetricIsRight ,

That’s really bad, sounds like a winter compound tire was sold as an all-season or something. That sounds like the typical treadwear for a winter tire that gets run in the wrong season.

Also for anyone reading this, If you ever need cheap tires try your local independent mechanics or to a lesser extent franchise mechanics shop, lots of people swap tires when they have 35%+ tread life left. Lots of shops will let these tires go for cheap if you get them put on at their shop. I would gladly take a good quality tire at 40% tread life vs a cheapo crap set at 100%

If you like city building/survival style games I’ve been having an absolute blast with Timberborn

MetricIsRight ,

Front Mission just got a remake, it’s out now. Not sure how good the remake is though.

Been getting those emails for 10+ years, I just laugh and keep seeding.

I repair and upgrade classic video game consoles. RGB modding NES, Adding HDMI output to a PS1 etc. Sometimes in the case of some NEC consoles like the Turbo Duo R, I’ll buy ones that are totally hopeless (capacitors in these thing leak like crazy) and pick away at it for months, I’ve had some janky looking consoles but I’ve brought them back from the dead. Always satisfying when then work again.

MetricIsRight ,

I should clarify, by RGB I don’t mean LED I mean modding the console to output an analog RGB signal (much better quality than the Composite of RF hookups you would normally use) for video out, you need specific hardware in order to take advantage of that higher quality signal though. Bob over on RetroRGB has a great write-up on it.

I work in the rim and tire industry. We have anywhere between 10-14 installs a week (just tires or tire and rim packages etc) we deal with a LOT of Tesla’s. They ALL do this. Alignments barely help, they are heavy cars with very poor suspension geometry. I know for the model S there was an aftermarket company that made a kit to fix the excessive camber in the rear to alleviate the tire wear issue but I’m not too sure on other models. I see and work on at least 3 Tesla’s a week, seeing what I’ve seen, even if someone offered me one for free. I would trade it for another EV.

MetricIsRight ,

Yep! Co-worker had 2 old laptops, threw a SSD into one of them and put Zorin OS on it for his daughter to do schoolwork on. Not one complaint or question about how to do anything, and it’s been a year. The other one was very very underpowered so I threw CasaOS onto it and got him setup with Home Assistant and Adguardhome.
