Why is a news station in Texas concerned with an Illinois school district?

HonkTonkWoman ,

The news networks might have the same ownership & are sharing content to keep readers/viewers happy, without having to pay for local reporting.

One of our local news outlets does this because new ownership cut their budget. They use nationwide stories from other partner networks to cover the broadcast time or publication quota.

It kinda sucks living in an area where you can’t get local news.

bamboo ,

In this case, WGN-TV is owned by Nexstar and KCBD is owned by Gray. Probably the case that KCBD has little budget for reporters, so they repackage other stations news (and add their copyright at the bottom) to drive traffic to their site.

HonkTonkWoman , (edited )

Thanks for this. Am I correct in assuming that the deal would likely be made between Gray & Nexstar, rather than directly between WGB & KCBD?

I know when Sinclair wound up owning a second affiliate in my area, the non local stories were the same between the two affiliates. They each had their own staff & local coverage, but the filler was largely the same across both stations.

bamboo ,

It seems like the same author has the same story posted on other Gray stations as well. This is just my assumption but considering the KCBD article says “Copyright 2024 Gray Local Media, Inc. All rights reserved.” it looks like they are just regurgitating other news stories and presenting it as their own on all the Gray affiliates.

HonkTonkWoman ,

Ah, that’s a great catch.

some_guy , in Why Iran Has Waited to Retaliate Against Israel for Hamas Leader’s Killing

It’s almost as though our “enemy” is more interested in peace in the Middle East than our “ally.”

gedaliyah OP ,
@gedaliyah@lemmy.world avatar

Let’s not get carried away. Iran is still arming radical extremists including Hezbollah, Hamas, the Houthis, and Asad. They are a pretty big part of this mess already. But any imperial power knows that it’s one thing to arm militant groups but another entirely to commit your own army.

some_guy ,

Israel attacked a sovereign nation. The other nation said it will retaliate but doesn’t necessarily want to escalate. I don’t see how I’m getting carried away.

samokosik ,
@samokosik@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah because terrorists such as Hezbollah and Hamas totally don’t attack Israel

some_guy ,

You’re comparing a sovereign state with terrorists. You’ve lost the plot.

samokosik ,
@samokosik@lemmy.world avatar

Iran funds those terrorists.

So you are essentially saying that if Israel created a terrorist organization, started attacking Iran via it and then Iran responds to Israel, it would be Iran who is the aggressive one and starting the conflict, right?

some_guy ,

You’re putting words in my mouth and making assumptions about my world view.

teft ,
@teft@lemmy.world avatar

If she did it over 19 months and we use @jordanlund’s figures from another comment in the post of her stealing 465,838lbs of wings it would mean that she was stealing 800lbs of chicken a day. That’s an insane amount of chicken.

artichokecustard ,

this lady is definitely the fall guy for some chicken mafia related activities, people were profiting from this, it’s bigger than just one lady and some friends, how can you move that much chicken in a day, everyday? someone find the closest wing place and tell me that their prices are incredibly reasonable at least

parrhesia ,

Or she is making really good chicken and selling out a lot

Buelldozer ,

I’m sure that it is but I don’t know how a County Court goes about enforcing that against a Federal facility. That’s why it so rare to see this happen, the system only works if everyone plays along. I dunno.

In his decision, Mehta found that Google requires device makers to sign agreements to gain access to its apps like Gmail and the Google Play Store.
