Well for starters, lift with your knees.

Simple. be a cop. It was probably 112 pounds to start with.

He literally said it during the interview this article is about.

And I quote:

I did something wrong 10 years ago. I have to take that. But hurting the people around me, whether it be Matthew (his teammate) or my wife or my child… that goes too far for me.

And from a previous interview in 2018 (in Dutch): nos.nl/l/2240281

I did what I did. I can’t reverse it, so I’ll have to live with the consequences. You may judge me, of course. It is the biggest mistake of my life.

Neither of those are apologies. I am really concerned about what you think apologies are and what you think is acceptable for an adult to do to a child.

Commiunism , in US Considers a Rare Antitrust Move: Breaking Up Google

Good, but why now? For years, Google has been way more dominant both practically and culturally until very recently, and only now after they stumbled hard with their AI venture, Bing catching up, and their public opinion dropping do they decide to break the company up.

Does this mean that a monopoly is good as long as it’s successful, but once it starts stumbling and outlives its use that’s when the government is gonna do something about it?

This guy studied physics at MIT right? Doesn’t know how dangerous atomic bombs are?

    moon ,

He didn’t study at MIT. He studied at UPenn and lied about having graduated from there two years earlier than he did, for some reason

    pineapplelover ,

Ah my mistake. Reading his wikipedia right now, it says, “he transferred to the University of Pennsylvania, an Ivy League university in Philadelphia, where he earned two degrees: a Bachelor of Arts in physics, and a Bachelor of Science in economics from the university’s Wharton School.” Had no idea Bachelor of Arts in physics was a thing. But economics is Bachelor of Science? What happened there? Is that a mistake? Physics is a hard science.

    UnfortunateShort ,

Definitely resulted in huge pile of BS with Musk.

Yeah, it’s my perception that the BA for sciences are for people that want to teach high school and lower. That’s how i got a math degree. I’m not sure if i could’ve handled any applied math. Abstract algebra kicked my ass twice, and diff eq took me a couple of months in to get comfortable with.

My school offered a BA in physics. I never knew anyone who took it (I did the BS) but they claimed it was aimed at theater set- designers.

FlyingSquid , in 'Worst nightmare of my life': Solitary confinement rises at Houston-area ICE detention center
    @FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

    This is just fucking disgusting.

The PHR and Harvard reports revealed more than 14,000 solitary confinement placements nationwide during a five-year period ending in September 2023, spurring legislation to enact harsher oversight. Since then, the Houston Landing has identified an additional five cases at Montgomery Processing Center, including Bautista’s. Four exceeded the 15 days of confinement defined by the UN as a form of torture.

Private prisons for immigrant detention have increased since President Joe Biden took office, despite a pledge to reduce the practice. More than 90 percent of detained immigrants are in facilities run by private prison companies, compared to 81 percent during the last year of the Trump administration. GEO Group, the private prison company that runs Montgomery Processing Center, reached a record $1 billion in profits from ICE detention in 2022.

The use of solitary confinement in federal prisons has also increased despite Biden’s pledge to reduce the practice.

Bautista filed more than 20 complaints. He protested his prolonged detention. He requested medical help for tooth and back pain. He filed a maintenance request to flush the toilet because of its vomit-inducing smell. He alleged physical abuse by staff. He requested legal calls. He couldn’t understand why he was there.

Not only is illegal immigration a civil crime, not a criminal one, his wife is a citizen. He was in jail for domestic violence and I will not defend that, but that is not why he was put in solitary. It was only after they discovered his immigration status that it happened. He did nothing to deserve this. No one deserves what actually happens in solitary confinement. It is not just being put in a cell away from everyone else. It’s horrific. I’m not going to dig up examples because it’s too sickening, but you can find plenty of former inmates describe why they now have severe PTSD.
