That’s very surprising to me, I’d always assumed tankers were stainless steel. Do they have to have a lining inside?

extremeboredom ,

Must be on a press tour. He was just on Lex Fridman, and Lex was disappointingly soft on him.

extremeboredom ,

Trying to ban AI is like trying to ban math. Or staple Jello to a tree. It just doesn’t work that way.

extremeboredom ,

I see you’ve got some big feelings about this. Maybe try to express them without the hateful abusive language. Hope your day gets better!

extremeboredom ,

You seem to know so much about me, simply from the observation that you can’t “ban” an entire concept like that in the real world. Amazing!

extremeboredom ,

So write a law against certain advanced mathematics. And prosecute anyone who uses advanced math. Best of luck with that. AI is math. You’re demonstrating that you don’t understand what the technology actually is or does by comparing algorithms to objectively immoral actions.

In real life, the cat does not go back into the bag. You can legislate behavior to shape society, to an extent. You can’t legislate what kinds of math people are allowed to do, it’s just not going to work.

You’re not operating within the realm of reality, which is why people don’t take you seriously.

I know, I know, go fuck myself, I’m an anti-human, not worthy of life, etc. I get it, you can spare me the reply.

Enjoy yourself bud.

The first one I remember using was good old Windows 98.

Apple is bringing RCS to the iPhone in iOS 18 | The new standard will replace SMS as the default communication protocol between Android and iOS devices (www.theverge.com)

The long-awaited day is here: Apple has announced that its Messages app will support RCS in iOS 18. The move comes after years of taunting, cajoling, and finally, some regulatory scrutiny from the EU....

extremeboredom ,

They probably will. They’re aware of and actively foster the “in-group” psychology that plays out in youth social circles. Anyone with a non-Apple phone is excluded as lower class, weird, or less-than. You don’t get included in the group chats that are often the center of your peers’ social lives because no one wants the annoyance of dealing with the limitations of conversing with a green bubble. You must conform, purchase the correct products, and sign over your life to the correct social media platforms if you want to participate in society.

extremeboredom ,

Ofc, Apple being Apple, I wouldn’t put it past them to artificially “break” things or arbitrarily introduce limits between RCS and iMessage

That’s where my money is

extremeboredom ,

They won’t be including encryption so it’s not quite feature parity but yeah

extremeboredom ,

LOL I always knew that creepy Life360 shit would come back to bite people in the ass eventually.

extremeboredom ,

I hope Framework takes note and is working on their own ARM laptop.

extremeboredom ,

I’m throwing shots in the dark here, but your English seems very proficient. Is there a possibility that your excellent English skills could be an avenue to making money in your home country? Forgive my ignorance. I can feel your pain through your posts. Just wanna help.

extremeboredom ,

I don’t know, you seem to be using more advanced vocabulary and word choice in this thread than could be explained just with autocorrect.

Sending love to you brother. I wish I knew the right magic words to say that would help you love yourself like you should. I hope one day you find what you need.

extremeboredom ,

Just filter the unwanted user out of the posts you see. The app I use for Lemmy includes this feature. I use it to clean up my feed from gallowboob-type ubiquitous posters, as well as any headline that includes the words “slam,” “slams,” or “slammed.” I can also eliminate any headline ending in a question mark, as the answer is an automatic “no,” so the question is not worthy of my attention.

extremeboredom ,

The kids are exposed to these hyper addictive algorithms, and the garbage content that gains ubiquity as a result, from a super young age. There is no way it’s not screwing up development.

extremeboredom ,

Good Lord. Was Dungeons and Dragons conceived and engineered from the ground up for the specific purpose of exploiting the dopamine pathways in children’s brains? Not so much. Sounds like tiktok has successfully eroded the minds of others in this thread.

extremeboredom ,

Tik Tok’s design clearly taps into psychological principles that drive addiction. The infinite scroll and unpredictable content rewards work like slot machines in a dopamine-driven feedback loop. This keeps users glued to their screens, often without realizing how much time has passed. The For You feed continuously adapts to like a million data tracking points, and spits out a constant stream of whatever content it deems most likely to keep you scrolling. Neuroscientists have pointed out that heavy TikTok use can reduce attention spans and increase the need for instant gratification which are effects tied to dopamine stimulation. Obviously bytedance isn’t going to publicize the proprietary research they used to accomplish this. But the app clearly uses these engagement-maximizing techniques. That also goes for Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Reddit (they wish lol) and the rest of them. But in tiktok’s case, it’s an export from an adversarial nation, and you only need to look at the internally approved version of tiktok for Chinese users, which promotes a completely different kind of content.

Production cost for a full length album STARTS at around $10-15k.

That’s a lot more than “zero” in my book.

extremeboredom ,

I totally get where you’re coming from, have done the DIY production thing, etc. And with full respect to the piece of art you put your soul into, I have to ask, was it a commercial success? As in, paying the bills at home? Because in my experience, you do end up having to invest those kinds of sums if you want to make a return at that level. I hate how music is commerce, trust me. But that’s just what I’ve seen so far.

extremeboredom ,

I appreciate you taking my question in the spirit it was meant, and the thoughtful response.

I guess what rubbed me the wrong way about CEO Douchebag’s comment was that it discounts just how relatively enormous of an expense production can be for the small artists trying to make a living. I’ve spent some time in the music industry and it has left me with a bad taste in my mouth. The necessary evil of commerce intersecting with art is a big reason for that, especially coming to the realization of just how necessary that evil is.

But yes I agree, it is definitely possible to create excellent art of high technical quality from home.

Wisconsin attorney general files felony charges against attorneys, aide who worked for Trump in 2020 (apnews.com)

Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul filed felony forgery charges Tuesday against two attorneys and an aide who helped submit paperwork falsely saying that former President Donald Trump had won the battleground state in 2020....

I dropped Instagram, and couldn’t be happier to have left that cesspool behind. No Facebook, no Instagram, no Tik Tok, no Snapchat, no LinkedIn, no no no. I’m done with the bullshit. Need to contact me? Then you probably already have my phone number, text or call. Don’t have my number? Sounds like you probably don’t need to get in touch with me, then.

extremeboredom ,

True. I’ve also decided I hate the professional world.

extremeboredom ,

When I deleted my Instagram, I was initially hesitant because “my friends were all on it.” But when none of them ever spoke to me again outside of Instagram, I understood that they were not friends.

extremeboredom ,

Are you already familiar with Framework Laptop?

extremeboredom ,

I miss r/livesound. It was a fantastic resource and a very active community.

extremeboredom ,

From what, exactly? Refugees trying to survive after Israel blew up their homes? That’s who was in the camp Israel blew up.

extremeboredom ,

Don’t you love how Saudi Arabia, the country who was very obviously behind 9/11, hasn’t suffered a single negative consequence as a result of their actions? They literally got away with 9/11. And then the US invaded some unrelated countries. Mind blowing.

extremeboredom ,

These types give me STRONG swinger vibes. There’s just something about the way the couples interact with each other that says, OK these people are obviously desperately bored with each other and into some FREAKY shit.

extremeboredom ,

Black skinnies and a black tee. Every single day lol

Netflix Windows app is set to remove its downloads feature, while introducing ads (www.techradar.com)

Netflix has managed to annoy a good number of its users with an announcement about an upcoming update to its Windows 11 (and Windows 10) app: support for adverts and live events will be added, but the ability to download content is being taken away....

The artist really captured the soul of his subject

All of these flashy Arab projects are giant grifts. The royalty want to solidify their legacy with megaprojects, but they are essentially overgrown children so they have to be dazzled and entertained with buzzword-laden presentations of CGI utopias, which they then tout as “their project.” It gets less than halfway built, and then sits in the desert to decay in the sand as a monument to stupidity and human exploitation.

extremeboredom ,

Why does he appear embalmed in the thumbnail?

extremeboredom ,

I recently left a job that most people would consider to be a very “cool” job. I previously would have considered the restaurant industry to be in this category of “you couldn’t pay me enough.” But I took a job as a cook, and it’s honestly been pretty good. I am getting used to the work, I get to exercise some creativity, the results are immediate and feedback from satisfied customers is nice. So I guess that changes over time.

extremeboredom ,

Thank you for the insight!

I quit drinking a few years ago but will be sure to watch for work bleeding into my personal life. So far, I’ve been able to leave work at work when I go home at night, and I’m thankful for that.

extremeboredom ,

Atomic Frontier is in a somewhat similar vein, though his uploads aren’t as frequent, they are of good quality.

extremeboredom ,

I see your comments absolutely everywhere on Lemmy. To the extent that I’ll think to myself, “oh, there’s the flying squid again.” Like seeing an acquaintance around town. Makes me think this town is actually pretty small.

extremeboredom ,

That makes sense. Carry on, winged cephalopod guardian of Lemmy

Prosecutors seek to jail Miami mom for posting news stories about cop who shot son (www.miamiherald.com)

Calling her “an inherent danger to the community,” prosecutors on Friday asked a Miami judge to throw a 51-year-old mother back into jail for posting news articles on Facebook recounting her arrest on charges of stalking a Miami-Dade police officer who had shot and killed her mentally ill son. Prosecutors say Gamaly Hollis...

I know, still use it. It’s just never allowed to call home. Simple.

extremeboredom ,

What else is in this bill? This will probably make VPNs very popular.

extremeboredom ,

It’s a strategy to push customers toward the more expensive models. Their markup is massive, it’s a blatant profit move.
