Recently had acid at a concert, figuring we’d handle the Uber home fine. Nope… nooooo… The driver was super chatty. A guy didn’t use his indicator and the driver complained about it, kicking off a friend ranting about how it in itself is an indicator of the beginning of the downfall of society. We’d literally just covered a block and our plans to just shut the fuck up have already unravelled.
I’m thinking to myself, “Please shut up. Please shut up.”
Then I intervened and tried to get everyone acting cool again before my own brain started going down rabbit holes mid-sentence faster than my words could keep up. Suddenly I’m on the rant for what feels like forever before I catch myself, realise it wasn’t that long, and we’re barely a few minutes into a 15 min ride. It was then I realised we were in trouble and had an eternity of this to go.
It was all catastrophic when someone’s rant ended in crippling silence and someone would get the bright idea to try recover by small talking with the driver. The poor guy…
When we got home, I was suffocating in awkwardness, and got out of the car like someone just did a horrible fart in there. My brain’s battling itself over whether to apologise and say we’re philosophy majors or something and thank the driver. But I knew that was going to be fuel on the fire and envisioned myself talking this guy’s ear off on the street while he’s awkwardly trying to drive away from my 30 minute long apology; that was 10s apology and 29m analogies and tangents justifying my train of thought until I’m convinced the guy gets it. Just had to focus on shutting the fuck up, walking forward, and getting inside the house.
We all got inside and were immediately relieved. I tried to say, “Well, I think that went well.” but we were in stitches before I could finish the sentence.
In hindsight, we’re experienced enough, and I dunno why we thought it’d be fine and wouldn’t play out exactly like it did.
One time i ate a ton of shrooms, some blotter and god knows what else on 4/20 which was also Easter. About two hours later the girls across the street who were making us ham dinner decided it would be cool to go to church. I won’t go into details but it ended badly.
IIRC the director or someone was depressed and the ending was him getting out of depression. I haven’t watched the show in a long long time but I do remember the ending making more sense with that explanation.
I guess so, also it puts into perspective, how big a feef is. It would have to be 1/4 of the Earth’s circumference. Or maybe they are standing on a smaller sphere.
To be fair, 40% of Lemmy is cross posts from Reddit, 20% is spam posts by one user across multiple communities, and the remaining 40% is divided evenly between actual content and posts complaining about Reddit

Turns out I’ve been cultivating natural gardens and eco friendly habitat for years, much to the chagrin of my neighbors, just by not caring enough to spend my whole summer seeding, weeding, and spraying.
I’ve done the same, and now my yard is green year round because all that’s left are native plants. My neighbor was bragging about his $300 water bill, then asked me what my secret was.
I let everything flower in the spring to let whatever survived the heatwaves, droughts, and freezes seed and outcompete the new stuff, then it gets mowed every other week at the highest setting.
I am about to seed some clover to help fix more nitrogen into the soil, though.
I just realized I can probably spray the yard with aquarium water after I do a change instead of pouring it down the drain.
After the 2nd year of cutting our farm, we stopped, our vets told us it’s actually better for our rescues to have roughage than just straight grass. A good number of ours are metabolic and aren’t supposed to eat super sugary grass. After the 1st year of not cutting, all the animals look great and tons of insects came back, now we have fireflies in the summer by the thousands, I haven’t seen them since I was a kid. It’s been amazing. Some of the fields in the morning during the summer I’ll go out and just listen, as the noise from all the bugs is incredible.
O and the few small caves we have…the bats are back in large numbers as well…love me some bats.
My place has a pile of bats, in a large part I suspect because of the wrap-around style gutters they like to hang out in. Had a bunch decide to move into the fireplace for a bit though which wasn’t ideal. Brought a pup that got lost into a rehab shelter. Made for a nice chance for the my kid to see something a lot don’t get to up close.
It’s less of a not doing work and more of a not trying to fight nature. I have very dense clay soil here, so trying to force some fragile grass seed is an uphill battle. But the clover and this fern-like stuff, that shows up without trying and keeps coming back. Just give it a trim every so often and let the critters that wander through help shape what suits their diets.
A long-dead cat for your pleasure. She arrived on my doorstep a starving kitten; after extensive travel in New Zealand she went to live in Canada, where she apparently lived to a ripe old age.
