How to Edit Your Steam Profile’s Privacy Settings

  • With Steam open, navigate to your username on the top of the screen, and select Profile from the drop-down menu.
  • Click the Edit Profile button that’s located beneath your Steam Level number.
  • You should see several descending tabs with profile information on the screen’s left side. Click Privacy Settings at the bottom of the list.
  • Mouse over the Game Details and select Private.

Krompus ,
@Krompus@lemmy.world avatar

I prefer to hide playtime and set myself to Invisible when playing lewd stuff so friends aren’t notified. That way people can still see my library and games in common as well as Now Playing status while I’m Online. The only issue is that these games are still visible if someone searches my library, but I don’t really care about that, I’m pretty vanilla.

Considering Steam has so many NSFW games, it would be great to have a proper “hidden/invisible” category that keeps ownership and all info about these games private while leaving other game info public. Perhaps also an optional PIN to access them so you can share your PC with friends and family without them seeing your lewd stuff. The current “Hidden” category isn’t sufficient.

greenskye ,

Just be aware that on multiple occasions having my profile set to private has broken multiplayer, specifically friends being able to find and join me in several games. I think it’s really dumb how privacy settings seemingly have in-game effects, but it is what it is.

XpeeN ,

I don’t see any bloat on my lineageOS phone.

worfamerryman ,

The average android user doesn’t have the ability to use lineageos. None of the android phones in my home even have support. So its not really a fair to talk about lineage when comparing android to iOS.

I could be wrong, but doesn’t lineageos have problems accessing banking apps since its missing some kind of DRM?

Maybe this I’d a solved issue at this point.

XpeeN ,

If one person believes one thing and another person believes the opposite, that doesn’t mean they’re hypocrites. That means there isn’t a consensus. Besides, android can be better than iOS and deserving of criticism at the same time.

Android can be whatever a dedicated community wants it to be, since it’s open source at its AOSP core.

I love AOSP, but I hate what Google does with it. Or most other manufacturers, for that matter.

chocobo13z ,

Chromium is open source, too, but so many projects putting all their eggs in the same basket gives Google carte blanche to push any standard they want as a new de-facto standard before the rest of us can decide on whether it’s ready or needs changes or is just bad.

Why do steering wheel locks seem so much less popular now? Same with the reflectors. Nothing’s changed about the best way to keep the car cool while you’re not in it but I almost never see them anymore and I’m in Australia of all places. Those things and to a lesser extent the steering wheel locks were everywhere in the 90s.

laivindil ,

In my area the wheel locks have come back a little. Not as ubiquitous as I remember in the 90s, but they are back here and there. The reflectors are quite common in Colorado though. See those constantly.

UnverifiedAPK ,

Because engine immobilisers are a thing, that’s also why car keys are so expensive. The engine won’t start without the correct key so no need to worry about the wheel.

As for reflectors, the people that use them might just opt for ceramic window tints.

PlantDadManGuy ,

Tinting your windshield is illegal, but I guess you could just use a super clear ceramic film… Except it’s still super expensive and not as effective compared to a simple reflector.

VikingHippie ,

Tinting your windshield is illegal

Actually, in most places there’s a maximum opacity for safety reasons rather than an outright ban. Granted, some jurisdictions set the limit so low that it makes the whole thing pretty much pointless 🤷

CaptainBlagbird ,
@CaptainBlagbird@lemmy.world avatar

I still see reflectors a lot. But I guess they might not be so popular anymore because with today’s ACs you can cool down your car in seconds, while with only ventilation cooling it took way more time.

Jimmycrackcrack ,

This seems like the most satisfactory explanation. I totally forgot that not every car had AC when I grew up in the 90s and I’m pretty sure my mum’s old car that she used to lock with a steering wheel lock and try to keep cool with a reflector didn’t have AC now that you mention it.

navi ,
@navi@lemmy.tespia.org avatar

Many EVs also have ways to either keep the cabin temp for extrended periods of time or precondition the car a few minutes before getting into the car (at the expense of a little energy).

EddoWagt ,

Your steering wheel probably already has a lock built in from the factory, give it a tug without the key and it’ll lock in place, to unlock it you need the key

Gordon ,

They did in the 90s too. Even in the 80s and 70s locking steering columns were a thing. I never understood the steering wheel locks.

Matt_Shatt ,

Deterrent for when someone jams a flathead screwdriver in your ignition and starts the car you still can’t really drive anywhere because you can’t turn. Remember this was before expensive NFC or radio car keys.

Home grown taste like a real tomato, the super Market once taste mostly like water

yukichigai ,
@yukichigai@kbin.social avatar

Seriously. Someone post the King of the Hill clip. You know the one.

OneOrTheOtherDontAskMe ,

It was only the other day I learned that the reason for this is mostly due to how they ripen, which I’m sure you already know.

For those that don’t, when you pick a tomato from your garden, you’ve picked it at your desired color and freshness. When you buy a tomato from the supermarket (most if not all), you’re buying a tomato that wasn’t fully ripened on th vine, but instead is blasted with some ethylene, a naturally occurring gas that normally is produced by tomatoes actively ripening, causing the tomato to continue to mature but not develop some of the complexity of taste you get from proper vine ripening. They’re often picked a little green when in super-farms because they’re firmer and less prone to damaging that way, and then ripened during packaging. That, and the tomato you eat from supermarkets and fast food are all super homogenous and bred specifically for mass yield.

ChronosWing ,

Grocery stores sell vine ripened tomatoes. They tend to also sell locally grown ones from local farmers which taste just as good as the ones you can grow at home. Any other ones you should just steer clear of for the reasons you listed.
