I see they’re looking to kill F-Droid.

MasterBlaster ,

I don’t knowvwhat mtls is, but Joplin has mostvof what you want. It does not have card layout native, but there might be a plugin for that.

MasterBlaster ,

They cannot celebrate his conviction because that would undermine their assertion that the trump trial was rigged.

In a twisted way, their reaction makes sense, and for me, was predictable. The cult must be constantly managed for it to remain intact.

How are you parsing JSON on the command line?

I want to extract and process the metadata from PNG images and the first line of .safetensors files for LLM’s and LoRA’s. I could spend ages farting around with sed or awk but formats of files are constantly changing. I’d like a faster way to see a summary of training and a few other details when they are available.

MasterBlaster ,

For me, a C# developer by trade, this is easily solved with a one command C# call. It’s possible you already have dotnet 6 or 8 on your distro as there are many C# Linux apps now.

Supreme Court will take up Meta's bid to end lawsuit over Cambridge Analytica privacy scandal (apnews.com)

The Supreme Court said Monday it will consider shutting down a multibillion-dollar class action investors’ lawsuit against Facebook parent Meta stemming from the privacy scandal involving the Cambridge Analytica political consulting firm....

Elections have consequences. Also, allowing people to get away with ignoring the rules has consequences. Refusing to do their constitutional job in the supremee court appointment by Obama should have resulted in impeachment of leader McConnell and a repudiation of antidemocratic activities by those who swore an oath to uphold the constitution and our democracy.

MasterBlaster ,

Ah, yes. The plans laid out by the ultra wealthy bear fruit. We blame and shame each othe while they pay no taxes! Mr. Burns would be proud.

Remember that just five years ago, Trumpcsigned a tax bill that gave the wealthiest amongst us a collective two trillion dollar tax cut that cost me the home interest and local tax deductions i depended upon. My crime was living in a “blue state”.

MasterBlaster ,

Probably a reference to how many people died because of crashes in them.

MasterBlaster ,

Many many years ago I realized that there would be no social security by the time I retired. Lo and behold Social Security will only pay 70% of its dues 3 years before I retire.

The good news is I’ve been saving for retirement since the age of 25. The bad news is there’s been a plethora of problems that have restricted my ability to save.

Thankfully, I I’m in a way better place than most people. Unfortunately I am still going to fall short.

I literally had this exact exchange with someone last year, when they tried to cast doubt on global warming by comparing it to the ozone. Another person did the same , using acid rain, and I pointed out that the northeast sued the shit out of the Midwest until they cut that shit with the coal fire power plants.

MasterBlaster ,

Many, unfortunately, are so deep in doublethink the won’t believe that tricky Dick initiated the whole thing with the EPA, clean water or air act, and the endangered species acts. Some came after, i think, but he set it rolling. He was still a bad dude, but he did some good stuff

MasterBlaster ,

This is a muddled message. Are we caught up chasing an illusion, or are we just more acutely aware of our poor condition?

It reads like it is saying the former, but then quotes statistics that reflect real loss of buying power. On the coasts 100k is no longer a large income. People really do live paycheck to paycheck while carefully managing their spending.

I’m inclined to at least partially acknowledge the gaslighting comment as plausible.

MasterBlaster ,

Well, my own observation shows me that most people don’t know the first thing about basic finances: compounding interest, budgeting, critical thinking when seeing advertisements, and the cost of take-out vs making dinner are some examples.

For gods sakes, check your credit card and bank balances once in a while!. smh.

Stateside here, and I agree that price is insane. Also, I like to root my phones , and Samsung makes that hard. that said, I am writing this on my tab s8 with a stylus. people forget that Saving for real needs takes priority! retirement is not free, after all.

MasterBlaster ,

I’ve had over 100 tabs open on my Firefox on Pixel 6 for months now. What are you doing that you can’t keep tabs open on Firefox?

MasterBlaster ,

That particular one is done as of October 2022. However, it looks like you are doing more intensive work on your phone than I am on mine. Perhaps I just lack imagination, but I never could figure out what I could do with tasker to improve my usage, and I understand what it can do. It’s just my life apparently doesn’t demand such solutions.

I personally never experienced the issues described in Firefox. Perhaps I was just lucky. I will say that Chromite is definitely snappier than Firefox. If you haven’t tried it yet, take a look. It is chock full of privacy protecting features, too.

LineageOS GSI on my Samsung Tab 2019 Has made it still usable to this day, then there’s the one with microg on my Pixel 2XL. Getting rid of play services axed about 800M of RAM usage for me. The Pixel is on Android 14 and the Tab will be the next time I update.

We are out there, we own our devices, and get value out of them well beyond their predefined expiration dates.

MasterBlaster ,

Your tablets are premium line. Mine is an A series - budget model - so it was getting old when it was first released. I have an S8 now, and that will last longer.

Freeing up ram helps in a few ways. First, you can fit more apps in memory, so less unloading. Second, more room for zram swap, reducing reliance on much slower static ram for swap, and prolonging the life of the sd chip, too. Finally, it means that massive spyware is no longer siphoning cpu time from user apps. It’s a win, win win!

Install something like LineageOS and use Librera or another reader from F-Droid. You will have a much better experience. If you really want to ditch Android , maybe you can get Ubuntu Touch, but device compatibility is dicey.

    MasterBlaster ,

Any android device that was released since Android 10 can take a GSI image. I know a galaxy tab 8 can run the GSI from Andy Yan based on testimonials. I will eventually install it on mine. I have it on my galaxy tab 10.1 2019 and I added MicroG. I’ve been running that for over 2 years.

    MasterBlaster ,

My thoughts, exactly. I still have the original game in the box . World of WarCrack captured me for a few years. I still remember the beauty of the world as I ran or rode horse between cities. The pine forests with snow falling was amazing.

I lost interest because I’m a solitary gamer and you really need to be a guild member to enjoy it. That leads to mandatory raids at 2 am, etc., which I just can’t handle.

    MasterBlaster ,

I gave up after my second divorce, I hope you have better luck. Beware, most seem to be looking for free everything with no work for them.

    MasterBlaster ,

As someone who does not use dating apps, it seems to me that a lot of men who are not city dwellers get lots of joy out of fishing. It seems rather insulting to demean someone for showing one of their favorite activities to potential mates. To those who would do that, I would ask why not simply move on quietly?

Now that I think of it, those men are dodging bullets like Neo. Smart guys. If I ever decide to put myself out there, I’m putting up pictures of myself at a campground with a fishing rod and bicycle in the background. That should weed out any women who expect four star resorts, expensive restaurants, and expensive toys for their mere presence.

    MasterBlaster ,

    Damn, I am envious.

    MasterBlaster ,

This - and besides, industrialists have polluted almost every lake and river so that eating those fish might kill you slowly. Being able to both catch and cook is an exhilarating experience when out in nature, though.

    MasterBlaster ,

I have a serious question for you. If a man is looking for a woman on a dating site, why would he post a bunch of pictures with women? I mean, it seems like it would raise more issues.

Do you want to see other women in his pictures to show that he is dateable? Maybe you want to compare yourself to his past relationships? As a man, I would not post pictures of me with women when I’m looking for a woman. The whole point is to highlight me and my eligibility, not raise questions of whether I’m a womanizer looking for my next conquest.

Then again, maybe that’s what you’re looking for? Someone who’s cool, and has lots of women hanging around him? I don’t know.

However, I do agree that if all he has on the profile is fishing, he’s probably not doing much else. I’d include a whole lot more stuff.

Funny thing is, what you say you seek is what I used to seek, but somehow I always ended up broke and overworked when i was with women. Maybe you’re one of the good ones I never found. Oh, well.

    MasterBlaster ,

Having just experienced this feature for the first time on my new Tab S8, I feel this is Huge. Now, if we can get this on a foss keyboard, it will be awesome!

    MasterBlaster ,

It’s so heartwarming to see a non-cynical take on something on the Internet. Thanks!

Why? All they have to do is blame the Democrats, and all the republications plus some of the independents will believe it - victory!

    MasterBlaster ,

Good luck with that. It never worked for me.

    MasterBlaster ,

I sidestepped all this crap by buying Synology in 2014 and upgrading 2 years ago. Sure, it isn’t FOSS, but it is very nearly plug and play.

I configured OpenVPN for when I want to use it remotely, and self host my music, video, and family photos.

Having the 4 drive RAID-6 gives me some security from the danger of losing data between backups.

I store all my scanned documents, ocr’d, and keep the paper under control.

    MasterBlaster ,

I have to admit it does seem like there is a lot of that here.

    MasterBlaster ,

Pulling together all the resources and ideas to make something happen is itself a valid skill. They’re way overpaid for it, but it is real work.

Steve Jobs, in particular, created with help the original Mac and was screwed over by other powerful people in the business. He created the Mach kernel and the NeXT workstation before Apple crawled back to him for help salvaging the business.

He might have been an arrogant prick, but he did have the ability to bring vision into reality, and he helped make a lot of people other than himself wealthy.

We have this thing called specialization in modern society. Do you think an electrician can design and produce a microchip or a math teacher can manage a large corporate entity? We all make choices. Some of us have more options or more help.

    MasterBlaster ,

And yet, he’s the one who got those products to the public, and many love them. I’m not fond of Apple, but I have to acknowledge success. I’m not claiming he’s a good person. Heck I agree with much you said, but being a business leader is a legitimate role and requires real skills.

    MasterBlaster ,

Yep, and they were just about to do it when that scumbag stole their thunder, right? They had the entire design all set and came together as a collective to make it happen, and Jobs stepped in and stole all the money and credit!

    MasterBlaster ,

I don’t have to click the link because I know about that already. I’m not justifying the greed, just acknowledging the reality. There are people with these skills who are not self-serving. We likely agree on many things, but I work with reason, not ideology. I also try to avoid insulting people for telling me things I don’t like unless they are insulting, of course.

Here’s something you won’t like - Marxism does not work, for the same reason the 1% collect all the wealth. Greed is a human condition.

    MasterBlaster ,

Who hired them? Who gave them direction?

    MasterBlaster ,

Oh, yeah. He hasn’t kept any promises. None at all.

You don’t have to like him or his goals, but please refrain from lying about him. It’s bad form.

    MasterBlaster ,

News flash: these pipes were laid up to 120 years ago, and the Flynt disaster was caused by republican leadership trying to cheap-out on water expenses for a primarily poor community.

Those pipes are all over the nation, under huge cities and small rural communities. This is no small task. Flynt isn’t fixed because it is not easy, and the administration involved was a combination of criminals and incompetents.

    MasterBlaster ,

Do not forget lead paint, pipes and crystal.

    MasterBlaster ,

I linked an article in one of my comments that describes the criminal cases. They did not get off scot free as of 2021.

    MasterBlaster ,

(I copied one of my comments verbatim here to save time)

Oh, yeah. He hasn’t kept any promises. None at all.

You don’t have to like him or his goals, but please refrain from lying about him. It’s bad form.

    MasterBlaster ,

I hadn’t thought of that one.

    MasterBlaster ,

For instance, if the range published in the job description is $70,000 to $100,000 (£56,4000 to £80,550), a new hire may start the job at $85,000 (£68,500), but make up to $100,000 as they earn raises and bonuses throughout their tenure in the role. In short, the company never intended to hire a new worker at $100,000 – that’s simply where it caps pay for that position.

In other words, they are lying. No reasonable person would expect a job post to show anything other than the hiring range for the job. Otherwise, there is no point to having it. It says nothing. It also says no matter how much money you earn the business, your income is capped. F*** THAT!

Treating applicants like they’re marks drives away the quality candidates.

In one interview, I got to the stage of talking with an AVP, and he asked my salary expectation (rather than stating the amount he wanted to pay). I gave him mid-point on the range, which given my decades of experience, was very reasonable. He was clearly shocked.

If you won’t pay for the expertise, don’t waste my time. Also, he demanded the date of my degree, which is against the law, so he (older than me) was ageist, too.

    MasterBlaster ,

This company is an international financial institution based in NYC. The mid point of the range was about 10% below where salary surveys said a person at my point in my career should be paid where I live for the job description.

Don’t try to find “good” reasons for this crap. The range went from entry level pay for a non-senior developer to way higher than anyone should expect to get. They maliciously complied with the law, like the employers in this article are doing.

I since got a job for a similar base pay plus bonus (thank God) from a much smaller but fast growing company.

    MasterBlaster ,

So, unethical, illegal, in order to intimidate an applicant. Would you work for that person even if you did get it?

    MasterBlaster ,

That is exactly what happens when one enlists in the U.S. military. Dress codes are a thing, and legitimate.
