I enjoy seeing how many people had an opinion and lacked the words to express it. Cowards, I’ll suck you all off at the same time. Momma didn’t raise no coward and those massive American pizzas trained me for oral stretching.
lemmy still isnt nearly as good as reddit was by a long shot. niche communities suck, porn sucks, c/all content isnt bad but if you scroll once youll just repeat everything on refresh.
but god damn the reddit app is terrible now and the content sucks there now too it literally feels like its trying to be a tik tok clone.
I miss the good ol’ days when everyone on the planet was free to make their own unique websites using JavaScript and HTML. Now all we have is google twitter tiktok instagram LinkedIn
this is a crazy take to make from my comment but i respect ur grind ig
but no, porn and jerking off is good for you abstaining has no benefits and never will. and i can confirm im much healthier and far more shredded than youll ever be.
Pro-tip: sort All by New Comments. Yes, if you refresh, you get repeat content, but you also find the unusual stuff and the repeated stuff is where the conversations are happening.
Reddit is a huge circlejerk, there are no debates on the large subreddits. Funnily enough, they all hate the mainstream media, but somehow still hold the very same “brave” opinion that mainstream media outlets are pushing.
This post makes me feel like we’ve come full circle. All the way around and back to the 2010 9GAG era of memes. Don’t get me wrong, though. This makes me nostalgic. It was a simpler time…
Seriously. 2010-ish reddit was a great fucking place. If I start fucking seeing novelty accounts, I’m fucking out of here, to some far-flung instance with a militant mod.
There were accounts on reddit that just made a running joke, or something to that extent. For instance, once guy was shittywater colour, and he’d draw your comments if he liked them. While he was actually one I didn’t mind, he’s the first example that comes to mind. most of them were dogshit and didn’t add anything worth while.
It is funny because he will randomly pops up and write a super compelling explanation for a question/discussion, and then the last line will have that signature move. It’s a blessing to catch him in the wild.
No. Sr. Grafo posted his own comics, then made comics in the replies to people. Shittywatercolor did as his name says to random comments in any thread.
I loved seeing comments from shittywatercolor, poem for your sprog (or something like that), unidan before his fall from grace and the undertaker because it usually caught me by surprise
There were a lot of others that were very boring and I would block them on RiF
Schnoodle is one of the things that I miss from Reddit. Not enough to sign back in, but those poems did make me smile and even shed a few tears occasionally.
It took me reading your comment to realize the person above was talking about an account that did shitty watercolor and not shittywater color. I was very confused
Memes are going through a cycle similar to art I feel. We started with just basic memes of text on random pictures. Then we got really good at those and we started making meta memes. Then we started contemporary memes: memes that challenge what it even means to be a meme (b and big chungus). And now we are tired of contemporary memes and moving back towards basic memes.
It would be a wealth of social information. Political events, economic crisis, the views of the common man of the time, all have been represented through memery. This is, in a sense, a journal of opinion with a wonderful look across spectrums. They also encapsulate humor, showing where it has and hasn’t changed across generations.
Sure, a massive chunk would be highly irrelevant, but it’s still a solid look into part of a wide culture.
I've played some action games in the teens and was fine with it. Maybe lower frame rate at low resolution (1080) isn't as apparent as the high 4K, but I've never understood why people can't play with frame rates still far faster than film (if it's truly refreshing the frames completely and not ripping the picture of course). I suppose this argument goes the same direction as the vinyl/CD one, with both opinions dead sure they're right.
If the game is handling variations of frame rates during play badly, that's a different story. The goal is for the player to not realize there's a change and stay focused on the game.
I started out playing Doom on a 386, in a tiny tiny viewport, and until recently my hardware was apways behind the curve. I remember playing Oblivion at 640 x 380. And enjoying foggy weather in San Andreas because the reduced draw distance made my fps a lot better.
Over the years I’ve trained my brain to do amazing real time upsacaling, anti-aliasing, hell, even frame generation. nVidia has nothing on the neural network in my head.
But not everyone has this experience and smooth FPS is always better, even if I can handle teerible performance if the game is any good.
simple explanation: people get used to their monitors’ frame rate.
if all you’ve been using is a 60Hz display, you won’t notice a difference down to 30-40 fps as much as you would when you’ve been using a 144Hz display.
our brains notice differences much more easily than absolutes, so a larger difference in refresh rate produces a more negative experience.
think about it like this:
The refresh rate influences your cursor movements.
so if a game runs slower than you’re used to, you’ll miss more of your clicks, and you’ll need to compensate by slowing down your movements until you get used to the new refresh rate.
this effect becomes very obvious at very low fps (>20fps). it’s when people start doing super slow movements.
same thing happens when you go from 144Hz down to, say, 40Hz.
Some of the settings are messed up, I think. It definitely can run faster than that by toning down some settings on that hardware. They really should have changed the defaults or straight up removed some visual settings, given what they do to the game. In my experience, the volumetric clouds, reflections and GI presets are all messed up and cost a disproportionate amount of performance when maxed out.
The original Anarchist Cookbook was incredibly scary to the feds. It was filled with mostly useless and dangerous (mostly to the “Anarchist”), but the name and the feelings at the end of the Vietnam war captured the public’s attention.
It was passed around mostly by Xerox machine or fax copies. By the time I saw a version in the late 80’s the one I ran into was a blurry and unreadable mess. The original author is on record saying that he had no idea what he was doing when he wrote it and that no one should follow any of the bomb making bits because he’d never made one himself.
Even with all of that, it holds a serious impact on our communal memory and social ideas. The name alone is going to live forever, even if the original text is lost to time.
It’s a neat idea, and the name is so good. I even saw on an .onion site that had it told in plain text, and the visuals were ASCII recreations.
There is a (conspiracy) theory that the writer was actually working for a government since a lot of the instructions don’t work, or would potentially kill the person making it. Thus anyone who tried to follow it would not get results or die from making a project at home.
Seeing as it was published in 1971, and the FBI’s COINTELPRO ended that year, it’s not impossible. They hated anarchists and anyone too “un-american”.
That said, zero proof. Hence the conspiracy in conspiracy theory.
Conspiracies are real, and they happen all the time. A conspiracy is just a group of people colluding in secret. It has nothing to do with proof.
The problem I have with the term “conspiracy theory” isn’t the word “conspiracy”; it’s the word “theory”. These aren’t theories. They’re bullshit. “Conspiracy bullshit” sounds much better.
There’s a book called Recipes For Disaster by Crimethinc, which is an actual Anarchist Cookbook, has less bombs and stuff, but there’s a lot of neat stuff that will actually work.
