Schmeckinger ,

Windows can also use NFS, but you have to enable it in the settings.

Schmeckinger ,

Also rust interacts through C Abi with most stuff. So C is still important for it.

Schmeckinger ,

Game is really fun, but needs some balance work.

Schmeckinger , (edited )

They run on them, but its not that easy compared to a web app. Why isn’t everyone programming in machine code? Every other language literally runs on it. There is a reason we use abscractions.

Schmeckinger ,

The problem is many multiplayer games are fun on release and for a few months and then die off. If I get my moneys worth during that time im willing to pay full price. But I usually buy the game after a few days/weeks. But for single player games I also go the patient route.

Spam calls and texts are driving me fing crazy anyone have suggestions?

After repeated data breaches that no company really seems to give a s— about my phone is blowing up with literally hundreds of spam calls and texts month. I get and make MAAAAYBE 2 or 3 important calls per month, 180-200 of the rest are literally all spam. Anyone have any suggestions, apps ect that they have found refuge with?...

How is calling out the lack of consumer rights in america xenophobia?

Schmeckinger ,

Yes you have consumer rights, they just suck compared to the EU for example.

Schmeckinger , (edited )

Just split the files and reassemble them client side

Isnt that the “its not 100% confirmed, so please don’t sue us” word?

Schmeckinger ,

You can still game stream with sunlight + moonlight. And the advantage is that it works with any brand GPU.

Why are some modern tvs' audiovideo settings still sliders/incremental without an option for exact number input?

This is something on tvs and even PC monitors/speakers that’s left me a little confused. Sliders/incremental input are okay for basic settings adjustments, but if you know exactly what you want your settings at…Why isn’t there a direct number input option on more devices?...

Schmeckinger ,

Most people use Arabic numerals, but some cultures switch comma and points and some cultures put decimal seperator at different spots.

Schmeckinger ,

Lemmy isn’t on an upwards trend.

Schmeckinger ,

The problem is that this is a spiral. Less users results in less content and smaller communities dying, which in turn leads to less users.

PNY's New PCIe 5.0 SSD Has an RGB Cooler With Dual Fans (www.tomshardware.com)

We’ll likely learn more about how efficient these drives are early next year at CES 2024 or not long after. So if you’re not keen on a PCIe 5.0 drive due to fans and bulky coolers, you might not have long to wait for better options. Just don’t expect them to be cheap when all signs are pointing to SSD price increases next...

Schmeckinger ,

At these speeds it’s like asking a CPU to run cool under workload. Your options are:

Active cooling

Slower speeds

Transistor breakthrough

Simple save the users language setting in a variable, change it to english, check if the first letter is “s” and then change the language back.

Schmeckinger ,

This is exactly what I expected and that isn’t a good thing to increase market share. The answer to how often the average end user opens a terminal is “no”.

Schmeckinger , (edited )

There are a lot of solutions like that in rust. You basically compile the template into your code.

Schmeckinger ,

Compiling all assets into the binary is trivial in rust. When I have a small web server that generates everything in code I usually compile the favicon into the binary.

ISP put me behind NAT

I’m connected via a 4G modem. Got this setup about 3 years ago. In the beginning it was enough to look for the public IP (what’s my IP). The modem showed some sort of private ip in the ui. I’m running stuff at home (Homeassistant, Gitea,) and bought a domain and pointed it to my home IP via Cloudflare. After some time...

Schmeckinger , (edited )

Good luck getting a non CGNAT connection here without paying for it. Also it’s not a breach of contract if it’s not in the contract…

Schmeckinger ,

We have more internet connections than IPv4’s they can’t just pull new ones out of their ass. Also IPv6 is internet too.

Schmeckinger ,

How? You can literally turn IPv4 off on your whole network, or selectively by device. But if you turn off your IPv4 you will get cut off of a good chunk of the internet.

And the only reason we have unused IPv4’s is because a big part of the internet is behind NAT of some kind like CGNAT.

Schmeckinger ,

CGNAT usually only applies to the IPv4. The IPv6 prefix you get is usually public.

Schmeckinger , (edited )

I can only talk how it is in Germany, where CGNAT with a public IPv6 prefix is the norm and a public IPv4 costs extra money unless you have a legacy contract.

Schmeckinger ,

I have experience with Vodafone, Deutsche Glasfaser and Unitymedia and they all did it like this. It also might depend on the state.

Schmeckinger ,

2 friends got sued for around 3000 each here in germany, but they “only” had to pay 1600.

Schmeckinger ,

But doesn’t that make it harder to get discovered? Im not into blogs, so I know nothing about tumblr or self hosted blogs.

Schmeckinger ,

Arent these 3 pretty irrelevant now(in the general population)? That doesn’t show a good track record.

Schmeckinger ,

Very cool that the official gameplay trailer doesn’t contain gameplay.

Schmeckinger , (edited )

It wouldn’t hurt forcing them to allow other app stores to be listed in the app store.

Schmeckinger ,

What? Drivers usually come after the windows install. Whats the error?

Schmeckinger ,

Look at mr moneybags with his “food”.

Schmeckinger ,

Then why is it called well done? Checkmate carnist. /s

Schmeckinger ,

Yes in germany we do eat pork raw. And we have the necessary food safety standards, where thst is perfectly fine.

Schmeckinger ,

Sadly anti cheat is much cheaper for devs than fast manual moderation. And a cheater infested game dies off much faster.

Schmeckinger , (edited )

Just making it harder to cheat and having a way to patch it and instantly get a wave of bans does discourage cheating quite a bit. Especially in paid games. You will never get rid of cheating completely, but cutting down on it and discouraging it is the name of the game.

TIL about this tool, the *Reinigungsschaber* ! (lemmy.world)

I had lost hope with my electric cooking plates. The white circles where completely hidden under a layer of diamond-grade burn residue that no amount of scrubbing with chemicals could even begin to remove. I found this 3€ scrapping tool and it’s amazing !!! Sorry, but I don’t have the before picture, believe me after 6...

Depends on the hardness of the metal you would need a metal. These stoves are mostly aluminium oxide, which has a mohs hardness of 9 and steel is 4-8. I looked more into it and I found glass ceramic stoves have a mohs hardness of 6-7. So a very hard steel should be able to scratch it, but most steels including stainless should be fine.

Schmeckinger ,

I looked a bit more into it and the first spec I found had a knoop hardness of 600 which should be mohs 6-7 so hardened steel should be able to scratch it.

Schmeckinger ,

I read that its used to measure the hardness of brittle materials, but I could be wrong.

Schmeckinger ,

You could route your desktop audio into your mic, with the big downside thst the other party wont be able to control the volume independently.

Stuck behind nat, any way to get wireguard working?

Is there any possibility to get wireguard working to access my raspberry pi from outside my home? I’ve port forwarded the wireguard udp port and it doesn’t work… Likely because I’m behind a NAT. My wan public ip is like 10.x.x.x which is most likely a private ip. Running tailscale for now

Schmeckinger ,

What would be the added latency. I was thinking of doing something like this and I could get a 3$ month VPS about 30km from where I live. I was thinking of doing something like that for remote gaming on my powerful desktop. Annoyingly I have cgnat and a IPv6 from where I live and no IPv6 from where I want to access it.

Schmeckinger ,

Another thing is if where you want to access it from has a IPv6 then you can just connect via IPv6.

Schmeckinger ,

The VPS I would book would be the same and the CPU is a unnamed intel 2.6 ghz, so that sounds good.

Schmeckinger ,

If you can enable hardware encoding it will help. If you can’t you could just compress less so it uses way more storage, but les compute power.

What does that have to do with writing? Pictograms are images. You take a microscope look at it and it tells you in image form how to decode it. Something like the arecibo message or the golden record, but way more detailed, because you have way more space.

Schmeckinger ,

That is just wrong. Yes the meanings of words change, but images and math dont change.

Schmeckinger ,

This is why I put playback in brackets, where it makes no difference at all.
