Usually I show them how far my forklift can place their freight without scooting it (which is never far enough (only when they complain about the potential for scratches)) then mention, “Unfortunately without scooting it you’ll have to load this by hand.”
Usually this gets them to relent and then I get to show them how tough the lining is by scooting the freight and not damaging anything
Sometimes though they still don’t want it scooted so they end up having to load it by hand by themselves (I can’t help by hand as it’s a liability thing) which always brings a smile to my face
Literally today some dingus ended up loading 5000lbs of flooring into their F-550 by hand because they didn’t want the rhino lined bed scratched
The hell…I have a pickup with bedliner that we use (in part) for picking up pellets for our pellet stove by the ton. They put the pallet on as far as they can while it’s fully on the forks, then lift up the end of it and push the pallet on to the truck the rest of the way. No issues at all, and we’ve been doing it for several years now.
I throw all kinds of crap on it. A few years ago we were getting rid of fencing the previous owners had left…the only thing I had to worry about was them tangling enough that I wouldn’t be able to get another piece in (we have a cap on our truck). That’s the whole point in getting the bedliner. I’d refuse to help someone doing that.
One day my friend told me not to grab any tools on the way to a junkyard, as they had everything we would need already loaded.
Later on, they didn’t want me using said tools because they were new and might get scratched or the ratchet gears damaged. Kinda wanted to punch him in his idiot mouth.
I treat my tools well and even baby the fancy ones a bit. But god damn, they’re fking tools, they’re meant to be used and eventually everything breaks.
A friend’s somewhat classic car has a tire change kit and we get a flat tire, they don’t want to have the change kit show any wear, so we end up waiting hours for roadside assistance to come change a tire… not with the included tire though.
Great skills, giving a tiny fraction of the budget to vaccine research during a global pandemic that halted the economy. I’m sure no one else would have thought of that.
It wasn’t the giving money, it was the fast tracking in terms of regulations. Many people in Trump’s position would not have done that and would have waited the expected 18 months instead of the 11 that it actually took. Some in the industry were concerned as it was happening. Plenty of other countries dragged their feet in the approval process more than the US did.
Trump wasn’t single handedly responsible for the approvals. Far from it. In fact, it wouldn’t surprise me if he didn’t know much of the details. But it still seems he was pushing for it where other people wouldn’t have. I’m not sure Biden would have. Trump likes to play fast and loose where Biden is a bit stuffier.
I didn’t have my own room when they put me in there for suicidal thoughts, and insurance wanted me out before I was well, so they discharged me with no way home
For me, it was the fucking hotline that did it. They asked me if I had a plan, and I said yes, because I absolutely had a plan for exactly how I’d do it, still do. Apparently, that gets interpreted as “I plan to do it.”
If I was going to actually do it, do you think I’d be calling the helpline? Hell, no!
Some therapists will help, others won’t. Some psych wards will help, others will give you more trauma. I recommend caution and research before telling a therapist about suicidal thoughts. I had a real bad experience at the behavioral health emergency center in Charlotte NC, and that wasn’t even overnight. I’ve heard good things about some residential places here in Oregon.
This may depend on the country but I as a therapist ask everyone anyway. And I’ve experienced many, many people over the years being afraid of speaking up. It’s always a moment of relief when it’s out there and they realize I’m not freaking out over it.
I’ve pretty much heard it all. Including the various ways people try to approach the subject while still unsure how I will react. And I do think that is something you could try if you’re unsure about your therapist - talk to them about your suicidal thoughts and see how they react before you confirm plans or attempts.
Chances are of course they can get quite a bit from your way of talking about it, because you’re definitely not the first person with those thoughts in front of them. The thing is - suicidal ideation is, depending on the type of disorder, quite common. If we’d admitted anyone who thought about suicide to a psych ward immediately they would be bursting at the seams and we’d get nothing done at all. So that’s not happening. As long as you can convincingly agree with your therapist on a plan forward (which could mean: Okay, I promise not to kill myself until next Tuesday) you don’t have to be admitted if you don’t want to. Which also would be an option of course. Psychiatric wards are emergency departments. They are supposed to be there for you when you’re seeing no light at all and in my experience, at least where I live and work, in fact have saved quite a few lifes.
Same! I work in healthcare and had to test nearly daily (using the antigene tests) and didn’t catch COVID until last week. If I didn’t work in healthcare I probably wouldn’t even know I had it, since the symptoms were rather mild. I only tested, because I had to work with people on chemotherapy and didn’t wanna risk them. At this point, I think there’s lots of people who catch the virus and don’t even know about it since we mostly stopped testing.
I got it for the first time at the beginning of September. I was so pissed, my 2.5 year streak of avoiding it gone. It was pretty brutal too, the fever and muscle soreness was no joke.
“Beating a dead horse” is an old saying/idiom in the US meaning “that a particular effort is futile, being a waste of time without a positive outcome,” such as flogging/beating a dead horse, which will not compel it to do useful work. Maybe it didn’t land as well I thought it would.
Feels a little like an Eldritch corporation that doesn’t totally understand humanity, but produces simple guides to existence in a an effort to ease the suffering of our poor squalid souls.
It’s a really grim article but it’s goddamn hilarious that it exists. I’m just picturing someone following it step by step without reading the whole thing first. “Okay aim the gun at a point just off the side of the bony ridge, okay…” points gun at blindfolded horse “…now what? Hang on.”
If you’ve never done it before, congratulations, try to keep it that way. If its your first time you’re going to want a tube of greese paint or some chalk. Draw an x using it from the left eye to the right ear, and the right ear to the left eye. The convergence point is the thinnest part of the skull. You’re going to want to use a small caliber hand gun for this next part. .22 is what most vets recommend. A police service pistol is way too much and will make a huge mess. You’re going to shoot the horse at the center of the x with the gun held very close, but not directly on the horses head. The idea is you cannot miss from this distance, but you also won’t create a pressure problem that causes the gun to misfire. The idea with all of this is its the least likely for mistakes. In an emergency, such as shipping a horse overseas on a plane, a trained attendant will use a higher caliber handgun, such as a .38, and skip the x, instead eyeballing it.
Nah, I didn’t fly much, or in ages. Tooth pain an pressure changes don’t go well together. 😬
But I can totally imagine that being crammed in a metal tube for hours at a time, alongside several dozen/hundred other humans, can very easily become an unpleasant experience.
They are sedated to oblivion. Its just that like any sedative or anesthetic it can wear off if things get so stressful that the drugs turn out not to be enough.
The horses that ship internationally like this are generally worth $1M+ so its not like this was the solution every settled on as “eh, good enough” and more like, even with all this time and effort, this is still the beat solution we can come up with. Also for what its worth, I don’t know that this measure has ever been taken in my lifetime. The sedatives have always worked in every case I’ve know. Putting down a horse in international shipping for safety is an extreme edge case
You’d be surprised at the lack of resources to learn how to do it yourself. Myself for instance? I would’ve thought you should preserve the ammo and pistol whip the thing until desired results achieved.
Yeah sorry, money is just so tight right now, we can’t find it in the budget…
By the way, this is Todd, your 3rd project manager. Should really help with increasing productivity and aligning with our new buisness strategy.
Oh, and your coworker Amy just put in her two weeks, so we will have to backfill that position sometime when the budget clears up. You can take on her responsibilities temporarily though.
Oh, and I’ll be in Ibiza for the next 3 weeks, talking to key internal stakeholders and top execs of our customers.
Haha. That’s basically my current role. I was asked to help in an area while they find someone to fill the role. It has been ages, like months. And no fill. Just found out at a minimum, it’ll be next year. So… yeah. Even working really slow hasn’t triggered them to find someone. Fuckers.
Rogu-te a chibzui iară.
The internet IS very US-centric, so this is kinda true, but it’s also very easy to abuse and bore people out. I’m Honduran and I know more about US Politics than about my country’s own politics. I know more about US politics than I do about every other country. This is not a flex, it’s a fucking burden on my mind and mental health.
I kinda liked how Lemmy wasn’t too US-centric at first, but I’m feeling similar levels of burnout from Lemmy as I did from Reddit, which was mostly due to how much US shit was posted there just about everywhere.
Global electricity prices in Europe (short of France that is self reliant with nuclear reactors) have gone up dramatically since the gas stopped flowing from Russia.
In 2022, the pricing of 1 kWh in residential areas in Germany are 0.6 USD. That’s 3 times the US if I’m not mistaken.
Last year I could have bought a new PS5 every month for the cost of electricity. Things have settled now but it’s still expensive - I switched a lot of my personal infra to the cloud and Intel NUCs to cut down the cost 😭
IMO If people want to post hard political material on a mainstream meme community, I wish they would make a minimum effort to make it relatable to those outside of the various originator echo chamber communities.
The constant “US Bad” “China Bad” and adjacent topics targeting a specific political audience gets annoying with how repetitive it is - if it’s not politics related to my region OR suggesting ways I can improve things, I could not honestly give a bigger dump
Shit indeed. The thing that was going to supplement renewable energy to stave off climate change becoming less and less effective and safe because of climate change is one of the cruelest cases of tragic irony ever!
Maybe desalination at the cost of reduced energy output should be considered, or desalination in general. Even if the weather stabilizes, having those around on low maintenance wouldn’t be a bad idea.
Only problem is, it will take around 3-5 years to build, probably.
