Seriously, I’m pretty disappointed. Just scrolled past a meme about Lizzo (har har she’s fat) and then I find this (har har short-haired bitches be like)… I’ve been finding this community to be overall pretty positive so it bums me out to see that shit infecting this space too.
Seems to be this one OP who's posting a whole lot of these sorts of "look how edgy I am" memes. Doesn't excuse it, especially when you look at their post history and start seeing some giant red flags.
Stupid article aside, a large filling breakfast being good for you and the whole “breakfast is the most important meal of the day” is a complete and utter lie invented for advertisement.
The point wasn’t to skip breakfast, it was that a big one isn’t necessary. Have a piece of toast, have a giant breakfast or none at all. It’s usually fine to follow your bodies need if you’re hungry or thirsty. It’s just that some people think it’s important to have a big breakfast, which is a untrue. A small refreshing or nurishing one is much better in many cases.
Surprisingly, I might pick Blockbuster. Having even just one streaming service costs the same as like 8 rentals per month. Idk about the rest of you, but I think I watch more movies than most and it’s still not 8 per month. And remember video game rentals?! Game Pass and PS+ Extra are amazing, but the selection is far from endless.
And it’s kinda win-win. I’d bet anything that revenue for these media companies would rise since it would be cheap enough and convenient enough to curb some amount of piracy. It’s just not worth the effort and risk for lots of people if they can just pop in for a rental while they’re already out for groceries. Redbox should be more successful, but there’s something about browsing in person through aisle after aisle and seeing what jumps out, and it saddens me that my generation may be the last to have had that experience.
I believe you 100% (and piracy is even cheaper) but browsing in person is something I truly miss. And it makes sense for digital access to be cheaper because there’s nothing to rewind/wipe clean and no need to replace stock that breaks/gets lost/gets stolen. I hear you in that it’s faster and more convenient to go digital like that, but there’s something almost therapeutic about taking your time and walking and using your hands. It’s intentional. It’s active. It’s a whole thing. It’s like the difference between getting fast food from a drive through versus walking through a few blocks of a city and choosing a good restaurant and sitting down and enjoying a cultivated experience. I know I’m exaggerating the impact, but not by as much as you might think.
you mean blockbuster to it’s former glory if you want blockbuster back just go on a roadtrip to some small town if you still have rented blockbuster movies put em there im not even american so id have to take a flight or a very long boat ride and a roadtrip to get there. i am gonna reply with were the last blockbuster is
Based on just browsing social media, this would be more accurate if it were stated as a spectrum and the two extremes hate each other. That would explain the posts in the recent past of people complaining about "normies" (unironically) joining Lemmy.
Yeah, except I've observed that theme. So it does happen. I'm confused. If you claim to admit it happens, why then state you don't believe it happens? I don't even follow what you're saying anymore.
It's worth paying attention to if it happens to you personally though. Sure it might not be across the country, but most teenagers don't get to venture outside the town they grow up in, so if it's like that, it makes up most of their world. So yeah, that it happens is enough for some people as that would constitute their entire teenage life. I don't understand why this is difficult to grasp. I literally opened and said it's a spectrum and the people do exist at either end and that obviously implies it's not everywhere. So half of what you said isn't even treading new ground or refuting anything.
It's not major if it doesn't happen to you. It is major if it does. This is super simple even a child should understand it.
When I’ve seen complaints about “normies” using Lemmy, it has more to do with people who are enlightened centrists / freeze peach warriors bringing their diseased takes here from reddit
I don’t think it has anything to do with which specific hobbies people enjoy, especially since we can’t even see that through the screen. I don’t know anyone who really cares if you enjoy clubs, gaming, or both.
Eh. I grew up in a football town. There was definitely a dichotomy between the popular kids and the "nerds" back when the term was only used as an insult. I think people have to remember their local experiences are only indicative of their locale, not the world at large. The same likely applies here. Won't be true for everyone, so the post is at least wrong in that regard, but the person who made it probably just didn't consider their experience is the same as everyone else's either.
Cannabis can very much cause paranoia and create some wild thoughts. Not anything like a 72 hour bender on stims with no sleep, but it can cause individuals to think up wacky shit.
Wild thoughts like "oh, am I having a heart attack", or "I think I'm dying", or "everyone is looking at me and knows I'm high". It generally doesn't make you start thinking up completely irrational nonsensical stuff like raccoons working for the CIA.
