@netchami @FrenLivesMatter, or better, along with uBO, install Tamper-, Greasy or ViolentMonkey with this script, that solve the problem compleetly

https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/477725-youtube-iframe-adblocker

Catweazle ,
@Catweazle@vivaldi.net avatar

@netchami, yes, the same as I have in the Vivaldi adblocker, but this is a continuo game of Cat and Mouse and uBO need to be updated almost dayly if it want to work, because YT anti-adblocker do it too.
This script works different, YT don't even know that you watch the video with this, it's like a front-end in the same YT page.

Catweazle ,
@Catweazle@vivaldi.net avatar

@netchami, anyway I've found a good(maybe the best) substitute for YT, take also an look on this, I love it.

https://omega.gg/MotionBox/

Catweazle ,
@Catweazle@vivaldi.net avatar

@netchami, well the UI isn't a problem, less in fullscreen, front-end like Piped, Invideous, PokeTube and others a lot of times fails because the instance is down or well, no couldn't skip the YT block, no such problems in MotionBox, apart it can access videos and music from almost all streaming platforms, even from TikTok and Facebook, not only from YT.
Yes, the UI isn't to anyone's taste, but the operation is impeccable and blazing fast.

Catweazle ,
@Catweazle@vivaldi.net avatar

@netchami, well, FreeTube also is nice, I used it before, but I changed it, because more and more Videos are inplayable (YT also knows FreeTube). Invidious, yes, works fine most of the time (yewtube works the best), CloudTube is dead, PokeTube also works fine and even permits to download the video (mp4 or mp3),

Catweazle ,
@Catweazle@vivaldi.net avatar

@netchami, i know, that is the problem from front-ends which use the YT API, they can be blocked, Invideous no, but FreeTube and others do, not a problem of decentralized or no, YT only need to blok the API and thats all, folks. With Invidious the only problem are the stability of the diferent instances. Motionbox use an another approach and also don't use the API.

A couple in an elegant restaurant in Texas. The waiter appears, dressed in a tailcoat with a bottle wrapped in a napkin: "Chateo de Sauce, 1985" and pours a little into the customer's glass, the customer tastes it and nods. The Waiter leaves and the other couple says "Wow, you were right, really a high-class restaurant."
"I already said it, and this was just the ketchup."

@Risk @Prunebutt, the risk is when we lose our own capabilities and intelligence, becoming dependent on AI. This has already happened with previous technologies. Who still has the handwriting of our grandparents with the introduction of the keyboard and word processors? Who can still do simple sums mentally for purchases at the supermarket, without using a calculator? With the introduction of smartphones, our lives have become completely dependent on these gossips in practically every aspect, social as well as professional.
Seeing this evolution, I always think of the humans in the movie Wall-e as the end result of this path. It is not that AI is going to fight and subjugate humanity, it does not need to do so, since we subordinate ourselves to it voluntarily, even today we would be unable to survive a week without our technology.
It happens when we start using tools, not for what they are, but as crutches for our own inability and intelligence, instead of using them for our own development.

Catweazle ,
@Catweazle@vivaldi.net avatar

@Risk, i don't confuse it,but an excess of delegacion IS at the end subordination. The calligraphy is only one example of a general tendency.
Of course there are people who continue to practice it and are sought after, precisely because there are few of them. But the vast majority do not have a writing that can be defined as such and many can no longer do so without using a spell checker, moving to a poor general vocabulary.
Human beings are very comfortable having others do their work and this with new technologies is becoming more pronounced, even with AI that turns on the lights or TV on command, because the 3 steps to the switch is too much effort.

@racsol @Viking_Hippie, Eliminating oil is not so simple and must start with stopping manufacturing SUVs and Supercars, eliminating continental flights and changing maritime traffic. That is where it fails, what's more, on top of that the politics and lobbies promote them. They limit themselves to raising the prices of gasoline and diesel, making life impossible for transporters and consumers who see food prices, instead of skyrocketing instead of subsidizing fuel and ecological vehicles.

Catweazle ,
@Catweazle@vivaldi.net avatar

@GelatinGeorge @Sheeple, a crocodile chokes you before eating you, a big cat, a lion, suffocates you or breaks your neck, before eating, a hyena begins to eat your guts even though you are still alive, you die while he eats you. Is this more cruel? No, he lives in a pack where everyone is hungry and wants to eat right away, they don't have time to kill you first.
Cruelty is a purely human concept.

Catweazle ,
@Catweazle@vivaldi.net avatar

@GelatinGeorge, Animals may very well show empathy, altruism and compassion, as shown in countless cases (hippos helping a young zebra cross the river full of crocodiles, a bear saving a crow from drowning in a river, elephants obviously in mourning contemplations in front of skeletons of their species, etc.). This is not the difference, it is cruelty against one's own or other species for pure fun and even sport, this is properly human behavior.

@Interstellar_1 @The_v, agree, I've used in the past Kubuntu along with Windows in Dual boot and in all the years I only needed the command line 2 times. In current Linux, at least in many distros, the command line is less and less necessary.

@Andrew15_5, for this I already have Krita, Gimp and some others. MiniPaint is to be used on the go, while I'm browsing, being able to open it in a new tab or even in the WebPanel, that is, when I'm obviously online.

@Andrew15_5, On the Go are also if i'm in a social network and need to explain something quickly with an image without the need to open some heavy editors from the disk, but right in the browser, eg in Vivaldi in splitscreen in few seconds.

@Haui, Windows always had an app to download a browser, now it's called EDGE I think.

Catweazle ,
@Catweazle@vivaldi.net avatar

@Haui, it's the same, a repo to download a browser IS a browser, at least it's engine. Because of this it's irrelevant if there is a preinstalled browser or a repo dedicated. Also eg the Steam client is a Chromium (bad optimized, slow as hell, in Kiosk mode)
Apart what will you do, if you want a browser which isn't in this repo?
I think it's easier if the OS include a Browser and everyone is free to use it or use it to download a browser to his like from its official homepage.

Catweazle ,
@Catweazle@vivaldi.net avatar

@Haui, ok but i still see the advantage there can be
How does a repository keep up to date with the 1000 or so existing browsers? Where is it downloaded from and what advantages does it offer compared to downloading it from its official website?
In Android there is the Play Store with dubious security and with many apps retouched and cutted off by Google, eg the app Blokada isn't the same as Blokada from F-Store or the original .apk in the Website. In Windows I avoid the Store for same reasons

Catweazle ,
@Catweazle@vivaldi.net avatar

@Haui, You cannot prevent an OS from modifying a Store according to its own interests, with which we arrive at the same thing that could only accept a list with links that point to the corresponding official pages of the browsers for download, an online activity that requires an engine for defect that is the same as that of the usual browser used, as in the example of the Steam client, in essence a Chromium in Kiosk mode.

Catweazle ,
@Catweazle@vivaldi.net avatar

@Haui, not a problem in Linux, but I'm not sure about the trust in MS and Google. Which Lawyer will impose this law? The same old people who confuse a remote control with a mobile in the parties paid by these multinationals? Wait for it.
In theory it's a nice idea, but this remains heavenly music in practice.
M$ has no qualms about offering FOSS in its store by setting a price, like some time ago with LibreOffice for €9.90.

Catweazle ,
@Catweazle@vivaldi.net avatar

@Haui, we agree on this, but just like Google in its Play Store modifies good apps to your liking, you download it later with half of the original functions and full of ads.
Worse with MS, now planning an online OS by monthly subscription, without the possibility of jailbreak controlling the user and the PC completely. These are the people we have to deal with.
Check Microsoft.com with this tool and you will see
https://themarkup.org/blacklight

Catweazle ,
@Catweazle@vivaldi.net avatar

@Haui, Google, MS must certainly comply with the legislation and it is seen that in the EU (GDPR) the corresponding PPs do not contain these atrocities like those for a US user. But this is not the central point, apart from the fact that they sometimes prefer to pay the fines because it is more profitable for them, it is the inherent ethics of their policy that lessens trust in their services, because it is also clear that they will always try to circumvent the legislation for their purposes.

Catweazle ,
@Catweazle@vivaldi.net avatar

@Haui, the biggest risk now is this Google MEI DRM crap, this can be the ring to rule them all, disguised as "security feature" 🥶

Catweazle ,
@Catweazle@vivaldi.net avatar

@notenoughbutter @Resol, and WebKit is a fork from KHtml made by the German KDE.
Blink is the most used engine, because it's the most compatible with current web standarts, even somewhat more than Gecko. If Apple's Safari insist in it's WebKit, the most outdated engine, it's become the new IE in a near Future.

New Anti-Consumer MacBook Pros - Teardown And Repair Assessment - Apple Silicon M1/M2 (youtu.be)

No surprises here. Just like the lockdown on iPhone screen and part replacements, Macbooks suffer from the same Apple’s anti-repair and anti-consumer bullshit. Battery glued, ssd soldered in and can’t even swap parts with other official parts. 6000$ laptop and you don’t even own it.

Catweazle ,
@Catweazle@vivaldi.net avatar

@legion02, I dont use sleep, I shut down the system, more if I put it in a bag to carry it to an other site. It's logical that the system still in Standby also need ventilation.
With modern systems with an SSD a Cold start is only a few seconds slower than to start from Sleep mode, because of this the last mode isnt really necessary, apart a cold start from power off avoid a lot of crap in memory and reset the counter of using time to zero, save battery and is healthier for the system.

Catweazle ,
@Catweazle@vivaldi.net avatar

@legion02, and it usually does on Windows and Linux as well, and it shouldn't be a warm-up reason. But if it is put in a bag that prevents ventilation, even a weak voltage can heat up the Laptop. The same if it is used for example, which I see sometimes, to use it on top of a cushion or on the knees, because this covers the ventilation slits, the same also if they are covered by dust.
In any case, something is wrong if the Laptop gets hot, except in heavy use, eg in gaming or similar.

Catweazle ,
@Catweazle@vivaldi.net avatar

@kylemsguy @pizzahoe @mechoman444 @catfish @frostwhitewolf @CorruptBuddha @legion02, maybe, it is clear that the standby power is very low, depending on the active modules, and that it does not need much cooling.
Although in a closed space with the ventilation slits covered, it is possible that heat can accumulate. Normally for the laptop to wake up from standby requires a clear intervention, such as pressing a key or opening the screen, not very likely when in a case

Catweazle ,
@Catweazle@vivaldi.net avatar

@kylemsguy @pizzahoe @mechoman444 @catfish @frostwhitewolf @CorruptBuddha @legion02, the only cause may be that some process is still running. In Windows quite possible with so many telemetry and threads of some stupid services, which causes so many new words that you invent to disable them on a new PC.

Catweazle ,
@Catweazle@vivaldi.net avatar

@kylemsguy @pizzahoe @catfish @frostwhitewolf @CorruptBuddha @legion02,It sure is a bug if the system wakes up without user intervention, this shouldn't happen.
But I think that the cause is that some service remains active, this would explain that the system wakes up but also the heating.
Therefore, while MS does not fix this, it would be advisable to shut down the system to avoid this. This, if you use an SSD is not such a big difference to boot it.
