ZILtoid1991 ,

For fascists, freedom of speech equals saying slurs.

Revan343 ,

That’s called doublespeak

luciferofastora ,

Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.

In this case, the law being freedom of speech, the protection being to say what they want and the binding being to prohibit others from curtailing that. Naturally, the push for inclusive language is part of a movement to curtail that freedom and needs to be reversed and pushed back against.

Why would it be bad to terminate investigations that are unlawful or contrary to national interests?

pacmondo ,

Because “contarary to national interests” means “any investigation that targets friends of mine”

CableMonster ,

That could be how you would mean it, but that is not how I interpret it or how they intended it.

“You guys literally just claim things without any evidence”

How ironic…

You, just a few comments ago:

“that is not how I interpret it or how they intended it”

If you’re so sure of their intent then where is your evidence?

You’re doing the exact same thing you accused the other commenter of; you literally just claimed something without any evidence.

CableMonster ,

Yes because I know what they mean because I have heard them explain the problem. You guys on the other hand dont know what they believe because you dont know anything about them.

TJDetweiler ,
@TJDetweiler@lemmy.ca avatar

If something is against “national interest” and your president is trying to become an autocrat, that means they can essentially pick and choose what national interest is. This should be setting off alarm bells in EVERYONE’S head as an obvious grab for power.

I’m not american, so I don’t have direct skin in the game, but everyone on both sides of the political spectrum who don’t self identify as fascist should be against this.

If you don’t interpret this as something extremely dangerous, you need to have a sit down and really think about the implications.

CableMonster ,

So the issue is that this is not what they are referring to. What they are talking about is when the FBI (and CIA) get involved in politics or directly sway things in direction that is outside of what the FBI is for.

NuclearDolphin ,

This is literally why the FBI & CIA exist.

CableMonster ,

They exist for personal gain of organizations inside of the US to use to their sole benefit?

funkajunk ,
@funkajunk@lemm.ee avatar

At first I naively thought “why is that a bad thing?”, but then realized who exactly decides what these “national interests” are?

Definitely using some “weasel words” in their policy to get away with some shady shit.

pacmondo ,

Any law that you see that you think “Wow, no way they can enforce that! That would get EVERYBODY in trouble” is a law that is intended to be selectively enforced against unwanted people

ZILtoid1991 ,

In Hungary, state institutions like the police of the tax bureau only target people and companies outside of Fidesz’es interest group. That’s what they want to adapt, so every company will fall in line with Project 2025.

LoamImprovement ,

Think about how many times in the last few months Trump has complained about the rigged trials. Now imagine him being able to unilaterally decide which investigations are lawful and which aren’t.

CableMonster ,

The FBI shouldnt be investigating the executive branch… The only way it should happen is if the congress calls for it, and that is what they are trying to do.

this is a great read on the subject queue.acm.org/detail.cfm?id=3212479

xthexder ,
@xthexder@l.sw0.com avatar

Interesting read.
I think by all the same arguments, running raw machine code (not even assembly) is not a “low-level language” either by their definition.
The branch prediction, instruction-level-parallelism, and cache behaviors all happen in hardware at a lower level than the programmer can control.

All the talk about compiler optimizations seem irrelevant because you can still just turn them off and output simple machine code.

I’m not really sure what the point of arguing the distinction is anyway? Any practical arguments would be much more specific about typical high-level features like garbage collection.

yogthos OP ,
@yogthos@lemmy.ml avatar

Right, what we call low level is really just an emulation layer that’s actually at odds with how the actual hardware works. Interestingly enough, it seems like functional style provides a programming model that can be optimized better because it doesn’t rely on global shared state.

RubberElectrons ,

Sure thing, dumbass.

Wasn’t the conservatives of Oregon, angling for less oversight of the medical field that led to so many pill mills around Portland, right?

Record profits for the mercer family as a result.

Wasn’t the constant attempts to reduce funding to Portland drug addiction support & rehab groups by various conservative groups & politicians who don’t even live there, right?

In spite of its issues, the city still has higher employment and median income vs surrounding, less cultured areas around it.

Get it, dumbass?

Is this a joke? The only reason the “free market” pretended to align with DEI in the first place was for regulations and public relations purposes. The capitalist class has never and will never give a fuck about DEI. You know that HR departments are not our friends, right? Their job is to execute the will of the capitalist class upon the working class.

The US ruling class has been trying to do all of these things for decades. I’ve been treated like I’m insane for calling this out since well before Project 2025 was formulated. It’s honestly frustrating to see the amount of people finally coming around now that all their ducks are in a row and a second Trump term is looking more and more certain every day. Biden’s been literally doing Republican policies for his entire presidency and we haven’t heard a fucking peep from the liberal “activists” in my area about it.

BmeBenji , in Anybody else experience this?

Literally just yesterday I posted about it in my family’s political group chat and my older sister said, and I quote:

“even though I lean left, I’m actually glad that conservatives have a playbook! Why? because Trump’s first term presidential transition (2017) was totally bungled… he needs a list of people that he can appoint from, so that these agencies don’t just fall apart… Don’t kid yourself, Biden’s team and Obama’s team and the democrats overall definitely have their own playbook and their list of potential appointees. They just don’t have to crowdsource theirs!”

would it be better to have two trump terms, back to back, or to make a biden sandwich and have a break between the terms?
