Planet earth’s been on the verge of a recession since 4bya. Various economists have been able to predict a recession every year since the term was invented. Stay safe
Recession has a specific definition. Unless you’ve had however many quarters of negative growth or bad GDP or however the fuck economists define it then you’re not in recession.
Based on my quick search I’m assuming by “they” you mean the NBER and by “we” you mean the USA? It seems the rest of us have agreed on the definition being 2 quarters.
How dare you. Just for one second think of someone other than yourself. How do you think the pharmaceutical companies are gonna feel about that? Or their poor shareholders? Pfizer’s CEO only made $33 million last year. How the hell do you expect him to feed his kids when he’s not making that much because your precious healthcare system ate into his meager earnings. The medical corporations are barely scraping by!!
I think it’s more of a case “fuck around, find out” but without any rules set in place they can incrementally fuck around and find out. That is to say, people tried this, some of them didn’t die, they got better at it, fewer people died, etc. Eventually you get good at managing risks. Not that they are smart risks. To a degree this makes people think and be extra careful, instead of just relying on rules to ensure their safety. Not that am implying electricians in other countries don’t think just that when rules are set in place there’s not so much of a tension and remembering whether you pissed on your slippers before working with electricity.
They’ve got it rigged so the house wins though. The secret is crime, know theirs and do some yourself and you get to run the house until they need a fall guy.
IIRC: An early (pre-telescope) astronomer did for tens of minutes at a time to document sun spots, but it took weeks for his sight to return and it was likely permanently damaged because of it.
While it’s commonly believed that Dan Crenshaw wears an eye patch because he lost one eye to an IED in Afghanistan, it’s much more likely he uses it to adapt more easily to changing lighting conditions when going below deck.
In Germany, ads are actually done well (not THIS well) and they’re all a chunk of time after shows, not interrupting them. People watch them because they don’t suck. At least that’s how it was 20 years ago. God I’m old.
It’s this or kittens, there’s an ad for flygresor.se where it’s literally just a bunch of shots of kittens wearing knitted airplane costumes while a woman sings “flyg flyg flyg, flygresor.se”.
that is what actually competent commercial design looks like, you’ve immediately grabbed my full attention and planted a jingle in my memory that will never leave.
Billionaires should pay everyone for stolen time, potential contributions to better world living. They currently pay only toxicity, diminish quality of life on Earth.
Billionaires should not exist at all. I saw a post saying that once you earn $999.999.999 dollars you get a trophy saying “I won capitalism” and everything else you earn goes to taxes. We should absolutely do that
I always hate that argument. Why be a decent human without the threat of eternal damnation? I mean that threat doesn’t seem to stop a vast number of religious people from being unbelievably cruel to their fellow humans, so…
wtf this guy is still around?! I watching some cringy debate video with him vs Christopher Hitchens (RIP) or someone like 15 years ago when I was an edgy teenager and YouTube was new (shit it’s actually like 20 years ago fml)
The main issue is that religion is something that makes you feel better when you have emotional pain, like a loved one dying. Like any painkiller, it has a purpose and if you abuse it you can deaden your response to actual issues that need your attention.
Originally Christianity was mostly about helping the poor, sick, dying, etc. That genuinely makes you feel better about yourself. Judaism has a lot of references to remaining strong in the face of adversity. Religions are just mental tools. What you do with that tool is up to you. If you hurt other people, it’s your fault.
Please don’t misunderstand. I was not saying that that was the be-all-end-all of religion. I wasn’t speaking against religion in general, just in regards to the irony of suggesting that religion makes people more good. At all.
I don’t. It tells you, in clear language, the type of person that this “loving Christian” is. They literally can’t imagine altruism, and that says more about them than what they think they’re saying about me.
That kind of person is revealing an innate sense of right and wrong that’s independent of their teachings. You should fear the Christian who’s envious of your disbelief in hell.
Yep. Even though I’m not an atheist, I still don’t understand this argument. I’m a good person (or at least try to be) for the sake of being a good person, because I don’t need to be threathened with eternal damnation in order to not murder people.
