Fun fact - presidents pay out of pocket to host these dinners. It’s not a write off or anything, it’s straight cash.

Other fun fact - Trump absolutely loves McDonald’s.

So this trashy guy hosted a fancy dinner with McDonald’s, and paid about $1000 for it.

ininewcrow ,
@ininewcrow@lemmy.ca avatar

Lol … Actually thinking that he paid for anything.

He probably ordered it from the nearest McDonald’s and just demanded it all because he’s president, promised them they’d get paid … then never thought of them again.

the idea that most Americans literally never walk anywhere isn’t inaccurate. especially for anyone living outside of a city.

Well, I was in a student exchange to Boise, Idaho about 20 years ago and did a daily walk around the neighborhood for some fresh air. Three days in, I was stopped by a frantic police officer with his fucking gun drawn because someone had reported me as some kind of child molester who was scouting for victims, because someone just walking was a completely alien concept there.

I was taken to the fucking police station because the policeman thought I was making shit up either. My host family had to wiggle around with my German passport and threaten to get the Embassy involved until they decided I wasn’t worth the hassle and dropped the whole thing… So I learned two things from that exchange:

  1. 'Muricans do not know what “walking” is
  2. US police is next level power tripping

EVERYONE NEEDS TO STOP USING HOUSES AS AN APPRECIABLE INVESTMENT. THIS IS WHY THE OTHER HALF OF THE POPULATION ARE HOMELESS. of course wealthy people don’t care about homeless people so this shitty-human-problem will never end, will it

zalgotext ,

rustydrd ,
@rustydrd@sh.itjust.works avatar

For individuals and families who actually live in them, a house is a perfectly valid investment with positive side-effects for the overall economy. The issue is with investment firms trading around real estate like it’s candy, which takes housing out of regular use and inflated prices for everyone who actually needs it.

BruceTwarzen ,

I remember being 13 or so and i was at my friends place for the first time. They had a cool house and his room was really far away from everything. He opened the door to his room and said: so, here is my nintendo, bed, and there behind the door is where i shoot all my unborn babies into the carpet. I turned around to look, just to see his mom standing there behind the door with a laundry basket.

Hnazant ,

Can you be that high? People do on other stuff on the regular. Didn’t they find Iron Man in some kids’ beds sleeping??

skyspydude1 ,

I’d believe it. One time at a concert we all did acid and molly. At a certain point I needed to go down the stairs to another level, but as I attempted to go down, there was an usher telling me I couldn’t go downstairs. So I said “Oh, sorry, my bad” and walked away. A few minutes later, my friends come find me and walk me down that same staircase, and the usher said nothing, which I thought was odd.

It was later after sobering up that my friends told me that what actually happened was I had walked right up to the usher, stared intensely at them for a solid minute, before saying “Oh, sorry, my bad” and walking off.

Another time, I had a buddy get incredibly high and was trying to run to the police station up the street because we were “mind controlling him”, and then later that evening after calming him down, was watching porn and having conversations with the actors as if they were speaking directly to him. Not even masturbating, mind you, just watching porn to converse with them.

punkwalrus ,
@punkwalrus@lemmy.world avatar

While I never had it happen, it could give you wrong command line switches that do damage. For example, when I asked how I could list volumes attached to an AWS instance, it gave me a “modify-volume” command instead of “describe-volume” command. Thankfully, I caught that before I cut and paste it.

It’s bad enough at programming that you can often see the problems without the help of the compiler

Last thing I asked it for, after the fourth draft still had undeclared variables and called imaginary libraries (which if they existed would be great)

It was good for coming up with a nice structure for a small program

Nahdahar ,

You can ask it for source now with browser integration. Previously the browser extension was a separate model with gpt3.5 which was pretty bad, now it’s just integrated into gp4. It works a million times better and it’s great that it doesn’t break the flow of the conversation.

Sarmyth ,

Certainly, presidents have some responsibility for things that the military does during their tenure, but people talk about these events, like he was told they were striking a DWB facility. I suspect he was told told they had located their target, and he approved without knowledge of the location and potential blowback.

His Whitehouse always struck me as more savvy than that, which led me to believe some of these were the result of omissions during communication from overseas.

That said, I totally believe they would bomb a wedding if they felt a high enough priority target was there (even if they were wrong). I felt the military was given ALOT of freedom to make decisions on their own while Obama was in office.

TheBlue22 ,

That sounds reasonable. Thanks for the perspective
