These posts are really cool and interesting, thanks for sharing!

PrometheusG , to nostupidquestions in What is a wandering minstrel-cum-clown? Does Russia still have them?

I believe it means minstrels who became clowns.

ilex OP ,

I’ve heard this before from a Russian speaker. I don’t understand how it got written this way. It drives me a little nuts trying to imagine how it became written as such. A translation that got fucked repeatedly until finally it was only bots reprinting it?

Charles is wonderful and I want to boop him. I’m sure he’ll be very sassy when you’re home

It also helps that the Genesis/Mega Drive was designed after the System 16 arcade board that many of these games used (and was also not a far stretch from the System 18).

AlmightySnoo , to fediverse in Lemmy.world reaches new milestone: 100k users and counting!
@AlmightySnoo@lemmy.world avatar

I was waiting for a MicroWave thread about this 😁

Congratulations everyone for this milestone! 🥳

I’ve been having a little too much fun on lemmy. 😁

Nowyn ,

Or you might be 1% of 1%. I think it is great. At least until I arbitarily decide it is not. ;)

qwertyqwertyqwerty ,

I’m trying to keep up with the fediverse jargon, but what the heck is a MicroWave thread?

V4uban ,

Just done by Microwave, an enthusiastic poster

qwertyqwertyqwerty ,

Oh geez. Got it. Thank you!

V4uban ,

No worries, have a good day!

I am loving this series.

davetansley OP ,

Thanks! It’s a lot of fun to dig up all the old ports and play them.

I’m fascinated by the way the older ones in particular were basically completely different games… it’s a far cry from these days where the main versions differ only in whether they’re 1080p or 900p or something.

Did you use your phone to take these pics? They look good!

Deme OP ,

I used my Sony RX10. These guys came surprisingly close, but still nowhere close enough to take such pictures on a phone. And thanks!

Boiglenoight , to retrogaming in Golden Axe: A home port comparison

This was a fun comparison and reminds me of the old gaming mags with ads that showed screenshots side by side of each system for a given game. There was an ad for Batman: The Movie and I always thought I was getting screwed with only having access to the NES version…

davetansley OP ,
@davetansley@lemmy.world avatar

This was especially a problem with for ZX Spectrum owners… they were, shall we say, a little bit reluctant to show Speccy buyers exactly what they were getting.

Boiglenoight ,

While the Amiga and Atari (ST?) always had the best looking versions. I had no idea where to get one, much less have the means to do so.

art101 ,

I grew up on Sinclair machines and yeah the graphics looked like a ceefax page that had died a horrific death but the gameplay was generally great.

Other classic conversions that actually looked pretty good despite the Spectrum limitations and played great were Karnov and R-Type.

davetansley OP ,
@davetansley@lemmy.world avatar

I did a post in this community the other day comparing R-Type versions… And yeah, the speccy version is great!

art101 ,

Sorry about that, following so many communities at first after joining Lemmy good stuff dropped off the bottom. Unsubscribed to a few so I can catch what I need.

I’ll look up that R-Type post, I spent a fortune on that cab as a bairn I should have shares in Irem.

Thank you for this! I grew up with sega consoles starting with the master system and I had Golden Axe for genesis and loved it!
