I used to think like this, but it’s a bit more nuanced./ If you tell people they can’t have any expectation of privacy, it’s essentially telling people of persecuted minorities that they’re not welcome.
Perfect privacy is impossible, but it shouldn’t be trivial to violate someone’s privacy when their membership of such a community is relevant.

Its not a guaranteed thing. As I understand it servers can simply choose to ignore the delete federation. I have never run a Lemmy server though, so take that with a tiny grain of salt.
Yeah, but companies can also “choose” to ignore GDPR requests. I don’t think talking about instances not following the spec and deleting things when requested is relevant.
Not a code change at all, just a filtering of the traffic from particular ip’s and forwarding it to a different page which is all that reddit is doing as well.
I wasn’t talking about good AdSense in this case, just the page you are redirected to if you are coming from one of their marked VPN IP addresses. Unless this has changed since the last time I attempted to go to Reddit with a VPN on. But that’s the behavior I’ve witnessed.

To be honest, privacy is not a major concern of mine and wasn’t a factor in my decision making at all. Things like messages not being e2e encrypted don’t really bother me that much.
We are too reliant on air travel as it is. With the advent of the internet we should reduce air travel down to permitted leisure/visiting family and migration. Businesses should be able to video confernce most transactions. The situations where you absolutely need on site representation can be reduced drastically.

It should have been;
NSFW = anything you wouldn’t wan’t your boss/coworker/stranger in public to see.
NSFM = not safe for minors; in other words, porn.
NSFL = gore, death, etc.
Theres no way anyone will agree to change nsfw now, so we’ll have to go for something else. I propose;
NSFP = not safe for public. This is for things like “sexy pics”, dark, potty, or sex humor (pretty much all of C&H), and that “ball vasectamy switch” post from eailer. It’s a funny post, but personally I don’t want a detailed 3D rendering of balls showing up while scrolling in public.

I’d prefer it that way as well (less to try and catagoize and no is it W or P gray zone to figure out), but I think nsfw has become so ubiquitous with porn that not many use it for other stuff. You either have to restablish the nsfw rules (and moderate) or create a new tag to fill in the gap.

I think I’m pretty satisfied with NSFW & NSFL. Might be neat if different platforms had their own NSFW settings so you could kinda rank your posts on some sort of offensiveness scale? Perhaps NSFP would be more intuitive though.

I have a cheap bidet and I can confirm it is the way to go. I wish I could afford one of the good ones that warms the water and shoots out hot/cool air to dry you afterwards, but the cheap one is still leagues above tp or wipes.
