I mean I go pretty effortlessly closeted at work as a non-binary trans person even though my hair is a neon rainbow and people clock me as both male or female on occasion. Coming out of the closet to some select folk tends to elicit way more blindsided surprise then seems reasonable given I don’t think I could look more stereotypical enby if I tried. My conclusion is cis people in general are pretty trans blind outside of the binary. Infra and Ultra gender sounds about right.
Well you see the normal children are just interfering gender identities. So really the normal must be some sort of mix of them all (maybe gender fluid?)
Yeah exactly. And it’s often the only feedback that gets any attention unfortunately. It was getting media attention and getting very loud.
Plus the whole thing was just stupid. They could have accomplished exactly the same thing with little backlash by offering some little in-game trinket for voluntarily linking a PSN account where it was possible to get one. This wasn’t my idea, I saw it somewhere on Lemmy, but that person needs to get a job at Sony stat because the chucklefucks working there now have no clue.
Exactly my thought. Gotta get fuckin ready to go all John wick or John McClane or Jean Claude Van Damme. With the right music maybe even go straight up Jon Hamm on those motherfuckers. Never go full John Cleese, though. And with the wrong music you might show up going John Mayer. Your wife might be into it, but she’d be dead real fast.
I worked at Lowe’s for a little over a year. They constantly assigned me about 3-4 times the amount of work a human can do. They absolutely would not listen to me when I told them it was too much. They kept saying to do these tasks “in my downtime”.
I never had a minute of downtime. Every shift I was scrambling at 100 mph to get things done, and it never let up.
They just kept calling me in to talk about my performance, and when I’d say it was impossible they’d just say “it’s up to you to find the time”.
I eventually got fired, and thank god. My own self respect was dwindling the longer I put up with it. I should have quit, but didn’t have the courage to.
Lowe’s the same company that hires 50 or so old farts that can’t do shit or know shit that stand around talking not helping customers, all on the basis that “they’re veterans” so Lowe’s hires them for the image of “supporting veterans”
I can definitely be wrong, but since the US has a lot more of a veteran obsession culture than other countries there are probably laws that give companies major benefits (like idk tax credits) for hiring veterans, so they gain more for hiring those useless employees than they lose.
American employment applications typically ask if you are a veteran. Also if you are disabled. It helps them check boxes to prove that they don't discriminate. Not sure what other benefits they get, but possibly something when it comes to veterans.
I BELIEVE you can gain certain tax breaks if you can prove that a certain percentage of your workforce is veterans or disabled people.
At the very least, I’m OK with it. Leveraging my autism diagnosis has gotten me a few positions in the past from employers wanting to tick those EEOC boxes.
I was on disability for a while. I no longer qualify, but the box often says if you are or were disabled. I still don’t check it. Like you, I don’t trust them.
This is basically just as opaque as a charity or HOA, with different steps. Which is great unless your community is poor.
My contention with this concept is that with taxes, I can vote for people that manage both the money gathering rules and how it is spent. That and the money typically works in a much larger pool spread across a wide range of socioeconomic groups, which can vastly improve its reach and capability. On top of all that, it’s also transparent. My guess is this has no such features.
Right, that’s the whole point of HOAs. They do all the same shit local government does, but without needing to share with the poors. They should be illegal.
Where I love HOAs are mostly for sharing maintenance and insurance costs of the houses, they don’t take over any responsibilities from the local government.
Ah, we just have coops for that. Though sometimes they aren’t actually that great at getting good deals for smaller stuff. It would kind of suck to be required to use the co-op.
I was watching a thing not too long ago where a dude was praising the “safety net” of home and health insurance and almost in the next breath complaining how socialized medicine was a scam and welfare
I was like “MF you JUST said you wanted a group safety net”
Cooperative Capital lets people pool small amounts of money, vote on how they want to invest it to improve their neighborhood–and then generates returns.
I’m not saying this is good or bad. But you wrote a lot a received great feedback from the community despite no one actually reading what it is, evidently.
First time visiting, i arrived in Sāo Paulo in a Bus, when i saw the sign "Welcome to Sāo Paulo i stood up and started to get my things… When we got to the São Paulo Bus Station, 5 hours later, i understood why the other passengers were very amused by my behavior.
I know so many people who choose to drive. It blows my mind. Like, yeah, the subways can be frustrating, but nowhere near as frustrating as driving in the city.
We’ve got the right to choose, yeah!
Ain’t no way we’re losing.
This is our right. This is our song.
Dee Snyder stood up for peoples rights. The whole band did. Even going to court for those rights. You can find the court videos on YouTube. Twisted Sister has an image of being a hair metal band, but they were legit punk. Nothing but respect.
I really want to do this, but it would be impractical to go through the thousands of communities available and decide if I like it or not. It also doesn’t account for new ones which means I’d have to keep going through the list and look for the ones I haven’t looked at yet.
Reddit was originally gonna do a per-user recommendation engine, and then it kinda never happened. Might be technically-possible for someone to do one. Classify content (download submitted webpages, run text classifier on them, download images, run image classifier like Stable Diffusion’s Clip Interrogator on them), then look at what things get upvoted and what gets downvoted.
So, sub to the ones you come across that you like, then browse your subs most of the time and just check All occasionally to see if something new catches your eye.
Or he could as easily block the ones he doesn’t like and stay in all. Just depends how picky he is. Granted, the fact we’re having this discussion implies he’s fairly picky.
That’s a perfectly acceptable approach, but it’s a bit odd to complain about seeing things you don’t like in /All. Of course you do, no one likes everything.
I feel I want three sections in my app: one for all, one for a selection of subscribed communities, one for ‘most’ with a bunch of communities blocked. Maybe I should just use multiple accounts and flip between.
Or* a second subscribed feed with a larger subscription list, so my smaller list of niche communities doesn’t get drowned out.
No, it just shouldn’t be capitalized. It’s short for “operative” and usually refers to somebody you think is (or jokingly think is) working for/with the cops or feds.
Yeah and “rizz” comes from charisma but isn’t spelled “ris.”
And “OP” has multiple existing potential meanings still in common use today, so it makes sense to me to spell it with flair for the sake of clarity.
Slang is complex and morphs as it travels though; so do some folks use opp as “opponent”? Sure, that’s believable. But I feel fairly confident (never fully confident; I am fallible after all) that it’s original use comes from AAVE and more specifically hip-hop, where I again feel pretty damn confident it refers to an operative and not an opponent.
If I am wrong though, I would love to be corrected (with some verification of some kind) so I can be sure to reconcile the new info and not spread misinformation again. I’ll happily await your evidence to that end.
so do some folks use opp as “opponent”? Sure, that’s believable. But I feel fairly confident…
Bro, it doesn’t even have the right number of P’s for your reasoning to make any sense.
It comes from “opponent,” that’s why there are two P’s. It comes from video games/chess/card games/etc where you refer to the person or persons you’re playing against as the “opponent”. It’s been happening for many years but has made it’s way into gen z slang.
Perhaps there’s a case of parallel development here, but I really don’t think that’s what happened.
Gamer slang has long borrowed, sometimes sincerely sometimes ironically, from AAVE and hip-hop slang, where I truly believe this originates, and clearly has the cop/fed connotation. Yeah, I know people shorthand “opp” as opponent in games in the same way they shorthand everything, but jesus christ that’s more approaching 1337 5p35k customs than gen z/alpha slang, so even if we do assume parallel development and concede opp=opponent in modern gamer slang it almost certainly is pretty unrelated to said archaic use and was likely homespun in zoomer/alpha games like Roblox or Amung Us or whatever they’re playing now instead.
But hey, while I remain unconvinced I am proud to accept my fallibility and ask everyone to remember that I am just some stranger online when weighing the weight of my opinion and to draw your own conclusion on the matter. I do not claim to speak gospel.
This makes vastly more sense in both gamer and hip-hop context than “opponent” does, so I’m willing to concede that this might actually be the right reading, as retroactively this fits in place of “operative” in the hip-hop settings I’ve experienced it in whereas opponent doesn’t.
The last p, well… that’s not that simple. It’s sorta like another way to call a cat kitten. As for the ladies, OPP means something gifted: the first two letters are the same but the last is something different; it’s another five letter word rhymin’ with cleanest and meanest.
My high school Algebra teacher was once telling the class about ZPP, the zero product property. He told us when he was teaching in the 90s, there was a new song out called OPP and he would say “you down with ZPP?” and the class would say “yeah you know me!” lol
