And 90% of them have been bitching about reddit, talking about reddit, or asking how we can make the fediverse more like reddit. I’d love to contribute more, but there is honestly very little in the way of content here outside of the reddit exodus, besides basic memes and nsfw bullshit pages which are already getting flooded with bots selling OnlyFans subs. People have talked about how much higher quality the posts are here, but I don’t see it at all.
Sounds like you need to curate your communities a bit more so your subscribed list works better for you. The memes on the front page are part of the organic growth of the site but there are tons of smaller communities with good stuff here that you can fill your front page with.
The number of posts and users is skyrocketing but we’re not reddit yet, we don’t have all the niche subs with 100,000 subscribing lurkers to drive visibility. If you’re missing an experience then it’s up to you to try to create it by posting what you want to see.
I have definitely made more posts here in the month I have been here than I did on reddit in 8 years. They are mostly of my cat (and help posts on !selfhosted and such).
It's such a shame we don't get many modern indie interpretations of these single-screen racers. There's a clone on Wii U and Switch (and probably other platforms) called Rock 'N Racing Off Road DX which I played to completion even though it was buggier, uglier and less fun than Super Off Road just because I've already played SOR so much. The game crashed immediately after the final race and I promptly deleted it.
The last one I know that was really great was Konami's super underrated Driift Mania for the original Wii. Great handling, fun tracks and colorful visuals made it one of my favorite WiiWare games, which sadly today means you can't legally get it anywhere. The craziest feature was the 8-way multiplayer using four Wii Remotes and four Classic Controllers, so each player is tethered to another by the Classic Controller cable. Worth tracking down if you want to play a "modern" (14 years old, pff) single-screen racer.
Well count me in. It took me two weeks to successfully create an account, but it finally didn’t crap out on me.
Maybe this is the good thing. Let Reddit stay filled with the lowest common denominator and divisive politics. Making Lemmy a little more hassle than the common user wants to experience to get into might be the only thing that keeps it from becoming the ban heavy echo chamber Reddit is.
If people didn’t choose the easy route when given the option, North America would not be suffering from an obesity epidemic. Why make something healthy and time consuming when fast food is so conveniently available?
It’s insane how well this timeline syncs with reddit’s API bs!
From the very first day spez announced the API changes and steadily increasing until most of the 3pa shut down then BAM. Good for Lemmy and hopefully bad for reddit!
What are you using now? I’m using Connect for Lemmy and it feels very close to Sync because of gestures. I’ll be torn when Sync comes out because I’m enjoying this so much. (And Connect is Canadian like me. Haha)
I’m using liftoff which is very nice. I tried out pretty much all the apps and I like this one the most. The interface is the nicest and it has gestures like Infinity where I came from.
I’m super excited for all the development here. I’m looking forward for Boost for Lemmy, but I’m also really enjoying wefwef (soon to be Voyager) and the active development is really exciting to me.
