I know it’s ignorant, but all I can imagine when using a bidet for the first time is shooting my corn hole with a jet of cold water, not knowing how clean it is back there, and using a towel to dry off only to find watered down shit on the towel.

Knightfall ,
@Knightfall@lemmy.ca avatar

Since the seeing ordeal someone went through here in Canada and his Telsa, I wouldn’t own one if given to me.

Water condensation dripping from the AC compressor on top of the batteries is just bad design and lack of foresight.

Transport Canada said that was awful and the reason for his faulty battery/batteries and Teslsa still said, nah you on your own.

Forget that noise.

When the fuck did a mobile hotspot become something you have to pay extra for?

It’s my goddamn motherfucking mobile data and MY PHONE. I should be able to use it however I want. My wifi went down because the greedy, cunt-faced shitbags at Comcast stole taxpayer subsidies to enrich themselves instead of actually providing the service we’re paying for. I tried to switch to a mobile hotspot and my phone...

Knightfall ,
@Knightfall@lemmy.ca avatar

It’s been like this in Canada for years. I’m not sure making our phones a wifi hotspot was ever free come to think of it.

Knightfall ,
@Knightfall@lemmy.ca avatar

This perfectly explains the demise of BlackBerry phones too.

Connect is much like Sync. In fact, I uninstalled Sync and went back to Connect.

I love the concept and idea of them and could see myself utilizing the ones that unfold into a tablet with the S-Pen. But the durability of those screens made me nervous.

Considering here in Winnipeg, Canada, where it reaches -35C or even colder, it was pretty wild having weeks on end of +30C to even +39C temperatures, and so soon into our summer.

I never want to complain about the heat when we have snow for 7 months, but that was ridiculous.

Knightfall ,
@Knightfall@lemmy.ca avatar

I’d have to research if your weather is more extreme than ours or not.

I’ve yet to visit the Maritimes. It’s on my wishlist.

Knightfall ,
@Knightfall@lemmy.ca avatar

I already subscribed there. Thanks!

Knightfall ,
@Knightfall@lemmy.ca avatar

So, would it be wise and helpful for a mod or bot per instance to subscribe to as many communities as possible to help the instance’s feed?

Knightfall ,
@Knightfall@lemmy.ca avatar

How does that “help” their feed? What possible benefit could there be in using a bot to subscribe willy-nilly to every community out there, no matter how shitty it is?

I don’t know… You made it sound like the only way for me to have more communities show up in my All feed on lemmy.ca would be if a volunteer on lemmy.ca, be it a bot or mod, subscribed to all the communities they could find. Hense seeing top posts from All communities. And I only meant for a bot or mod to just subscribe. Not to repost everything.

If that isn’t how it works, sorry. It is why I asked if that would work or not.

I don’t mean this comment to be facetious towards OP.

Seeing reports that interest died down on a newly released item, be it a game, social media, or tv series, is just to be expected. May as well report that water is still wet.

YSK that a lot of common questions/complaints about Lemmy are presently answered by kbin (kbin.social)

This is not an attempt to convert Lemmy users, nor is it a slight on Lemmy. I'm sure there are plenty of reasons why Lemmy works better for some, and I love the fact that we not only have multiple choices, but multiple choices that allow us to interact with each other regardless! It's amazing. Lemmy is great, no shade....

Knightfall ,
@Knightfall@lemmy.ca avatar

I saw in the comments here there are no apps yet for Kbin. So are Kbin users just using the website on their devices for now?

I’m enjoying Connect for Lemmy and awaiting Sync for Lemmy to be released. Can or will those work for me if I made a Kbin account and will I gain these Kbin perks you speak of?

Knightfall ,
@Knightfall@lemmy.ca avatar

I’ve had a Galaxy Note 10+ for 3 years and I’ve now had an S23 Ultra since around February. Not once have I had random apps installed.

I’m with Rogers Wireless in Canada.

Do you use the swipe to type feature on your phone?

Is this how most people type on mobile these days, drawing lines all over a keyboard instead of tapping the individual keys? I've never had an iPhone so I don't even know if they can do this natively, but I know you can switch keyboards at least, so it should still be an option if not.

Knightfall ,
@Knightfall@lemmy.ca avatar

I do. Not exclusively, but more often than not.

There are 1 billion active users on Instagram and those users were invited to Threads using an existing account. Celebrities, businesses, streamers, etc. all popped up on Threads within the first few hours of public release.

I’m a big nerd and just learned about the fediverse within recent months. Everyone else I know who uses Twitter and Threads have no clue what Mastodon is.

The dominance of cat content VS dog content on Lemmy reflects its current techie userbase

I originally joined Reddit in 2011, and in the beginning it was dominated by cat content. It was rare to see a post about dogs. Sometime in the mid 20-teens this phenomenon reversed. It’s always been a “pet theory” of mine that this reversal was due to Reddit becoming mainstream, and that it’s initial nerdy/techie user...

Correct, RCS is only for Android. Right now it’s limited to Google Messages app and Samsung’s default texting app.

My wife has an iPhone and I run Android. Been that way for a decade or more now. Never an issue for her what colour my texts were.

And these days we use Telegram. Signal, FB Messenger, WhatsApp… There are dozens of chat apps out there that work cross-platform easily.

Knightfall ,
@Knightfall@lemmy.ca avatar

Good idea! Here’s my comment to do the same.

It’s a game to me to find other users from the same instance. Hello fellow lemmy.ca user!

Knightfall ,
@Knightfall@lemmy.ca avatar

What are you using now? I’m using Connect for Lemmy and it feels very close to Sync because of gestures. I’ll be torn when Sync comes out because I’m enjoying this so much. (And Connect is Canadian like me. Haha)

Knightfall ,
@Knightfall@lemmy.ca avatar

When is the last time you used it? It was like that a while back but recent updates have my experience near flawless.

Knightfall ,
@Knightfall@lemmy.ca avatar

I’m loving Connect for Lemmy right now, but certainly curious to see how this turns out! Sync was my go-to app for Reddit.

Knightfall ,
@Knightfall@lemmy.ca avatar

You know… It’s seeing this type of stuff I’m so happy I found my wife the old fashioned way before dating apps existed.

Knightfall ,
@Knightfall@lemmy.ca avatar

I had to zoom in on my phone just to be able to read that!

Knightfall ,
@Knightfall@lemmy.ca avatar

This reminds me, I need to go see if Lemmy has a Thanks I Hate It (TIHI) community yet.

Knightfall ,
@Knightfall@lemmy.ca avatar

Thanks. The community must be very new.

What would be the problem if Threads federated with Lemmy&co in the future?

I’ve seen a lot of comments suggesting Threads should be pre-emptively defederated by Lemmy/kbin instances if it tries to join us. I’m a bit confused what the problem would be. When Meta does its usual corporate bullshit over at Threads, how would that hurt a user or community based on Lemmy.world? If anything, wouldn’t it...

Knightfall ,
@Knightfall@lemmy.ca avatar

Thank you for asking this. I’m off the same mindset as you and thought Threads and Bluesky jointing the Feeding would be a benefit, not a con. I’ll be monitoring replies…

Connect for Lemmy is my go to. The dev just released an update too with a ton more features. It’s working great and I like it more than WefWef.

Hello, fellow Canadian from lemmy.ca ! 😀

We’ve spoken on here a couple of times before. But you’re probably getting inundated with users to keep track of everyone. 🙂

Knightfall ,
@Knightfall@lemmy.ca avatar

I’m enjoying the hell out of it. Could be the novelty of everything, but I’m liking it more than Reddit. And like I’ve seen many here say, I tend to respond and have conversations here more often.

Plus, Connect for Lemmy is very nice on my Android phone. I was waiting for Sync of Lemmy to arrive, but I’m not so sure I’ll switch.

Knightfall ,
@Knightfall@lemmy.ca avatar

Same.

Connect For Lemmy and WefWef are helping me get by since they have similar gesture support.

YSK: Hitting submit more than once will post your comment/thread multiple times, even with the lag

With the sluggishness of the site these last few days you can sometimes get slowness or infinitely loading icon when hitting submit. Yes, but they’re not going to know to do that. People will post, see error, retry, give up and move on.

Knightfall ,

I see the potential with Lemmy. I was able to adapt to this far quicker than Mastodon. Albeit I was more of a Reddit user and barely touched Twitter.

What I’m curious about is how things will fair once the two competitors of Twitter come out soon. - Threads and Bluesky.

Knightfall ,
@Knightfall@lemmy.ca avatar

I just tried this on Mastodon’s official app (Android) and that feature doesn’t work for me.

Knightfall ,
@Knightfall@lemmy.ca avatar

I think I’ve posted more comments on Lemmy than I ever did on Reddit. And I joined Reddit back around 2010.

Knightfall ,
@Knightfall@lemmy.ca avatar

I feel bad when I see people have duplicate replies. Their duplicates get downvoted and I’ve seen people act demeaning as if the repeated comments were intentional. Meanwhile Lemmy and its apps are developing so bugs are going to happen.
