I was gonna say. I think she’s just fat and has fluid built up from too much alcohol and Golden Corral. White trash loves Golden Corral. In fact, I drove by one they other day and everyone that exited, had a limp. Everyone walking in didn’t. My new theory is, the food is such shit and they eat so much of it that they leave Golden Corral with a limp.

Never said you did, or that it was required, but I did. and they’ve had my email for a while … Been so long ago I’m not even remembering clearly why I had it, oh I think I tried the android version on my phone when I decided to stop rooting and I couldn’t use Adaway

Nice, I was just going to suggest uBlock Origin. Side hack, I use simplelogin.io (or use annonaddy) so that every site get’s a different email address. Easy to turn off emails, and makes you more hack resistant.

AdGuard have a free product called “AdGuard Home” that’s like PiHole but more powerful. It lets you run a DNS server on your own network that blocks ads, and uses encrypted DNS queries (DNS-over-HTTPS and DNS-over-TLS) to prevent your ISP from snooping on the requests. Some ISPs build ad targeting profiles based on the sites you visit, and just using a third-party DNS server (like Google’s 8.8.8.8 or Cloudflare’s 1.1.1.1) doesn’t solve this since it’s still clear-text and the ISP can still collect the data.

This lets you block ads on devices that can’t run adblockers, like TVs. It runs well on even the cheapest Raspberry Pi 4B, too.

NENathaniel ,

AdGuard has a invert allow list that I like. I prefer it to be off on sites by default and enable it when I want to

Do you need to unblock a bunch of domains for every new site you visit?

NENathaniel ,
@NENathaniel@lemmy.ca avatar

What do u mean?

Whenever I hit a site that has intrusive ads I just hit 1 button and it starts adblocking on that domain

Oh that makes sense. I had a brain fail. Cheers!

Shit, if a show doesn’t interest me after 30 minutes I’m done with it. If the story only gets interesting after the forced exposition dump part of the script, then the script needed more work before they filmed it. In my opinion anyway.

Medieval Dynasty. The best way to describe it is a medieval crafting/survival game that later adds in building and town management. Your goal is to ensure your legacy by getting a wife and producing an heir. Honestly, this game is time consuming but quite relaxing (aside from aggressive animals and the occasional bandits). There’s plenty to do, such as hunting, gathering, fishing, farming, animal husbandry, tree felling, as well as building and decoration, managing villagers’ jobs and statuses, and building your dynasty. What’s more, they are currently in a closed beta testing multiplayer with a new map! Highly recommended!

Is that Angela Merkel in the middle? If so this must be at least an old photo. She is not the German chancellor anymore. Not that that would make things any better…

NathanielThomas ,
  1. So yeah, somewhat old photo.
DandomRude ,
@DandomRude@lemmy.world avatar

Just wanted to make sure. Not sure if any US representatives are in this picture though. But it kinda looks a bit like Merkel and Martin Schulz (2nd from the right, also a German politician and at the time probably President of the European Parliament - this guy looks like him) are on the lookout to see if our friends from America (on maps to the left/west from europe) would like to flip a coin as well.

gigachad ,

That’s Charles Michel, President of the European council. I admit they look a bit similar on this photo, but Martin Schulz was President of EU parliament until 2017.

Just like declining birth rates in the US.

“We need to have more babies! Our population is declining!”

Well we could subsidize child care.

“Fuck you! Oh whatever shall we do?!”

Well we could provide housing programs for people who want to have children.

“Fuck you! Oh we need to think of something.”

Oh, I know, we could subsidize fertility treatments for parents that want children but are having difficulties and can’t afford 10s of thousands of uncovered medical expenses at once!

“Fuck you! Oh, woe is me, there’s nothing anyone can do!”

mayo ,
@mayo@lemmy.world avatar

Definitely not that simple. Immigration is good, but you need the physical and social infrastructure to manage it.

explodicle ,

Why would we need new infrastructure? We’ve had high immigration rates in the past, we could just do that again.

TheFriendlyDickhead ,

I don’t realy see how it’s more expensive to keep a few immigrants alive, who are willing to work and often already have good education, than raising and educating a child for years to come.

mayo ,
@mayo@lemmy.world avatar

Think about it… housing, medical care, transportation. These need to keep up with population growth. If growth is achieved through immigration, then you need infrastructure to support more people. I’m in Canada, immigration has been seen as a positive thing for a long time, but there is a resource squeeze right now and increasing immigration is seen as adding fuel to the fire.

We are trying to address those issues, but it would have been a lot better to put infrastructure in place before aiming to increase the population size.

NathanielThomas ,

I think declining birth rates are good and should be encouraged.

AllonzeeLV ,

I actually agree for the sake of the Earth and humanity long term, if there is such a thing anymore.

I acknowledge though, that it will be very painful for humanity to adjust to downsizing, and in sociopolitical discourse, short medium term humanity is all most ever consider relevant. But yes, I agree with the long game position that humanity should strive to shrink and find equilibrium with our world.

TheFriendlyDickhead ,

It’s sad to me that we live in a system where growth is the only goal. If the economy only grows by one percent its a crisis. Like what the fuck. I think you don’t have to be a genius to see that infinite growth with finite resources is somehow impossible.
