Oh you just gave me an idea. I have the old pc of my grandma wich i wanted to turn into a personal server for various use cases. With ssh i could control it from my phone
I think being on lemmy does not in any way oblige a user to listen to everyone all the time. A lot of people will just come here for a good time. And for the freedom of speech activists: freedom of speech also involves other peoples freedom not to want to listen.
Moreover, I think most people who want to defederate with certain instances don’t necessarily have a problem with different world views, but have a problem with the tone being set by a small percentage of the users of said instances. Unfortunately, only a small percentage is needed to create a general vibe.
I hope it will be possible for individual users to block entire instances very soon, this way this whole debate will become obsolete. Personally, I can’t wait for it (the debate to become obsolete, not blocking instances necessarily)
Also freedom of speech is between your government and you. Your government can’t censor speech, private companies, individuals, organizations, ect, can censor your speech or censor themselves from hearing it. All rights are only between an individual and their government.
The private property rights that give private companies the ability to censor your speech are created and inforced by the government in the first place, so functionally it’s not different. A handful of massive companies who functionally own the government getting to police what is acceptable speech is not functionally different from the government doing it directly.
I really can’t fathom why people cry about “freedom of speech” when something privately owned decides not to include what they consider fucking shit. Freedom of speech is the fact the government cannot stop you from saying what you want. NOTHING ELSE. People paying to run their own instances do not owe you anything
All rights are only between an individual and their government
Different rights have different scopes. Some rights, like the right to live, are between everyone. Some others, like the right to receive a purchased product, are only between buyer and seller. Freedom of speech “just happens” to be between individual and government, in countries where it’s even a right.
not entirely. It makes it easy to filter out the kind of applicants that would put that on their resume. Very useful for hiring managers. Saves lots of time.
I’m just saying that government contracts == money and so my point is that while Comptia may be (read: most definitely is) a scam/racket it can make a person eligible for a paycheck. Agreed that it doesn’t mean they’re competent.
From this angle it seems to resemble barrel chest which would be an early sign of emphysema but others are saying HGH. It may just be the way he is built and a mixture of overweight though.
I think this is what happens when you just keep asking plastic surgeons if they can remove your entire belly fat without doing anything else to your body until you find a doctor who doesn’t tell you that the result will look like shit.
Maybe we could, maybe with temporary and permanent exchange programs for adults, or expanded aid to enable refuge and immigration from less dangerous but still undesirable situations. Maybe an organization that can give you a list of countries that will welcome you immediately, and take care of providing transport there. Perhaps with a 3 month “drop everything and go back home” guarantee.
A lot of people feel stuck where they are, many of them are, maybe that could change.
Under a rock question here, but do you know of any sites that map out radio stations so you can preview them or note them to check out when traveling about?
I mostly listen to my own music when traveling because I don’t know any radio stations that might click with me, and don’t really feel like or sometimes have the time to scan for them.
Oh, to clarify, when I said my own music, I meant my local files. I’m a weirdo that buys music & syncs it across devices.
That said, I did a little searching after asking this and found a cool little site called Radio.garden that helps find some radio stations around you, and found some cool stations I might give more of a listen to.
This is my point. The person I replied to said OP shouldn’t expect more than what they got. I pointed out this same business model has worked for decades so OP shouldn’t have expected the outcome of a bricked device.
5 minutes of fame when Debian said “if you want other init systems, maintain them”, soon-to-be-Devan folks slammed the door and effectively ruined the chance of multi-init debian by fracturing efforts into their fork instead. But hey, all the news were abuzz about them.
