Trying to get out of doing homework, me and my siblings would join my mom to watch her Star Trek - she didn’t object. Most times, it was TNG, with the occasional bit of DS9 or VOY.
She had actually gotten into TNG as a teenager - she’d read a few novels from her local library and kind of liked it. She then found Wil Wheaton hot enough to actually watch the show. (She may have watched a bit before that, but that’s my recollection, at least).
The answer is as others have stated appl not supporting the open standard RCS.
I will elaborate with apple are deliberately dragging their feet supporting standards as a deliberate attempt to put social pressure on you to buy an iphone.
an audience member asked Apple CEO Tim Cook for some tech support. “I can’t send my mom certain videos,” he said; she used an Android device, which means she can’t access Apple’s iMessage. Cook’s now-infamous response: “Buy your mom an iPhone.”
THE solution is not to buy the wife an Android, that is ONE solution.
In total, there are a few solutions, I number them to make it easier to refer to them, not to order them from best to worst.
Get yourself an iPhone
Get your wife an Android
Wait for iOS 18
Switch to a messaging app like Element or Signal.
1 and 2: Unless you yourself can accept switching to using the other system, it is unfair to demand that the other part does that.
I have tried to switch to Android, I did it back in 2019, but I just disliked the feel of the OS enough that after dropping my phone and smashing the screen after 2-3 months, I didn’t even bother to get it fixed, I just moved back to my iPhone.
iOS 18 will have RCS, and will probably solve this.
As an Israeli who is losing his mind over what is happening and is learning about the less positive side of Zionism, I feel the same. In essence, we have a battle between two extreme groups, one more civil and normal-looking in terms of outer appearance than the other.
Dad liked Star Trek so I watched with him since I was 3 or 4 years old. I became a much bigger fan when I had a job with odd hours and watched DS9 reruns at night in the mid 90s.
My parents showed me the episodes of TNG that didn’t have any content they objected to and taught a moral lesson. Most episodes have a moral lesson so I got to watch most of TNG before I was an adult. I have since then watched most of the available Star Trek content out there outside of anything TOS. I may find it in me to watch TOS but I’ve been hesitant to go back before TNG because that show is special to me.
Got it. I mean one thing about Reddit isn’t necessarily that it shows up in search results, but that people will go out of their way to append it to a search in order to get better results.
No guard till middle of the ear, #1 with a high and tight fade, finger length on top with a little longer in the front, textured, white walled and squared off.
Lemmy will never take off since the whole federated platform is just too complicated …
…Lenny being a huge propaganda platform for violent extremists and nut jobs doesn’t really help much
After the Reddit API fiasco I came to see if Lemmy could replace it. In day two I think I saw a comment seriously suggesting that we must (and will) kill the rich. No satire, no joke. seriously suggesting that. In Reddit or any civilized platform that would have been an instant bannakd post removal.
After that I’ve noticed pure Hamas and Russian propaganda and a whole lot of what I’ve later learned to be “tankies” ranting (and promoting violence)
Lemmy is a cesspool of scum who would be (or already have been) shunned and banned in any other forum.
I’ve seriously thinking of swallowing my pride and going back to Reddit, where at least the users are decent if the company running it, isn’t.
Lemmy will never take off and will remain a fringe platform. Reading the horrible bullshit posted here, that is a good thing.
if you don’t believe me, see that business with c/vegan.
While I guess what you’re saying is true, I haven’t been confronted with such things during my 1-2 years on Lemmy. It also depends on the communities you subscribe to and political ones are probably more subjected to violence than others.
