DW i’m not talking about the economics, he was right about that. I’m referring to the stuff he want back on later in life upon finding out more. Scientific socialism is all about growing and learning from your mistakes and even though Marx was initially wrong about a lot of stuff, his ideology steered him right back on the correct path; proving that even a flawed person can become a force of overwhelming good through following socialism. Social fascists (liberals) will point to all the bad things a socialist has said/done not realizing that shit gets better with time, while their people start bad and get worse over the period of their life because their ideology is one of exploitation and evil.
Define difference. For me personally it’s pretty cool to finally have some sort of community that seems like minded on at least the surface level instead of just constantly being stared at as if I were a fish who just questioned the usefulness of water.
Will it spontaneously make come about utopia? Probably not but if that’s your lower bar for doing anything I’m pretty sure you are gonna have a bad time.
I had a free book reward from Thriftbooks, which I used for a copy of Long Dark Teatime of the Soul by Douglas Adams. When it came, I was kinda bummed that some kid had scribbled on the title page, but eh, it was free. At least it was a first edition in otherwise good condition, I won’t complain.
I used to frequent a thrift shop that gave books away for free, I saw a copy of Cloud Atlas and thought it would be a good read (it was). I accidentally for the dust cover a little then looked at the title page, signed first edition. Not worth much, but cool nonetheless.
I don’t know about that. During my job interview, I requested that (with the necessary politeness) and it wasn’t weird. I accepted the offer and now work daily on a GNU+Linux machine. It’s nice.
I’d enquire during the interview and request when accepting the offer (or during onboarding). Don’t ask me for a laptop while I’m still interviewing. It’s an interview. I’m not giving you shit.
He was acquitted of criminal charges while still alive from NPR. People have tried to sue his estate over alleged inappropriate behavior since his death but nothing made it to court yet. So legally no, he never molested any minors. But the fact that there were multiple allegations is concerning.
If it truly is only an hour of someone’s time, then I’d much rather they made that insignificant amount less profit, but did the work to make our experience better.
Eco system, email, google account, all bookmarks saved between devices. Where as Firefox you’ll need to actively make an account. Chrome also come pre installed on some systems, ive also seen that many installers for random software will offer to install chrome.
Its all subtle manipulation that leads to people using chrome because everyone uses chrome.
Personally I use Firefox based browsers. I font want to support google.
Not too weird, but I found this accidentally: a subwoofer under my bed (the speakers that came with it broke)
I found a ten hour long brown noise mp3 that is set to loop indefinitely on an old burner phone. Through the subwoofer it sounds exactly like the warp engines from Star Trek TNG. Incredibly comforting, and hard to sleep without
Logitech z313 is what I got, I just checked my order history and it was like $57. I’m going to try to track down a link for the audio file I use. I have the file, but I don’t remember the source
That’d probably be fine. I mean I haven’t tested it a lot, but I think the secret sauce is just that it’s all bass from the subwoofer. Let me know how it goes
Man I know, and I tried them. None of them were quite right, they didn’t accomplish what I wanted. Like the sound on the show is just a little different in real life. Part of it I think, is the treble (insert tribble joke)
It really all clicked when I fucked up and broke the speakers so it’s all coming from the subwoofer
Also no I didn’t solve that problem, I’m using an app called blackplayer, every ten hours it fades in and out for like a three second period. That’s on my to-do list to fix, but not a priority because it doesn’t bother me too much
But if you do care about the quality, then you should just download those movies in higher quality than DVD. Like this you’re just getting 480p/576p with visible compression artifacts at the same file size.
The problem is the DVDs is in a language I couldn’t find reliably to download. I once had access to a private tracker that had these things, but they got shut down, and I was on a long vacation while they migrated.
So I missed the window and I haven’t been able to get in since.
Jellyfin supports external audio tracks (see here). It works pretty well, so you could rip the audio tracks from the DVDs with Handbrake and download higher definition video files
It wouldn’t make sense to put the onus to block every bad instance onto every single user.
Consider the extreme use case, which is obviously CSAM. I rely on my instance admins to handle that for me. If I had to painstakingly block every instance that has poor moderation (or worse), I’d simply stop using Lemmy. The “all” feed would be utterly unusable.
Also, admins need control over what’s in their own database, potentially for legal reasons.
Lemmygrad, Hexbear and other red fascist instances aren’t communists, they are tankies. They should be defederated so real leftists can be left in peace.
Anarchocommunists like to gatekeep and pretend that state communists are actually right wing, because they can’t fathom that their ideology could have some dark shameful parts too. Sorta like when republicans claim the nazis were socialist because they don’t want to face the dark parts of their ideology. Turns out though, the tankies are leftists, and are communists, they just either think the “stateless” part comes after the party gains totalitarian control through murdering dissenters, or they actually admit that will never happen and just prefer totalitarian control they think they’ll be a party member of.
Communism, definitionally, cannot have a state. That isn’t gatekeeping. Your can argue about getting there but then tankies generally support states with no interest in actually doing that.
Sometimes, sometimes they at least pretend they intend on abolishing the state even though we all know they’re lying even just by virtue of “even if you’re well intentioned once it exists it will never kill itself.” But also that’s why they aren’t marxists, they’re state communists, they take all the leftist communist ideals +state i.e “not right wing.” Right wing =! “when state.”
You don’t need to like us, but at the very least learn and engage honestly if you want to oppose what we have to say. Comparing us to fascists just shows how you know jack shit of what you’re talking about and how condescending you are. The only reason the world doesn’t speak german right now is because of the Soviets, don’t fucking compare MLs to fascists. Also, “mUh ReAl LefTisM”, fuck off.
None of us claims that Russia is a communist state, nor do we praise it, this is a straight up lie. If you want to oppose our CRITICAL support of Russia’s fight against NATO and the west hegemony, go ahead, but provide actual arguments instead of fabricating shit.
Now for the DPRK, it is a communist state, stop consuming propaganda uncritically. Go search what people that study the DPRK have to say. Inform yourself on the fight of the Korean people, what they have gone through and what the US did there.
I’m not engaging any further than this, you’re just acussing us of shit and repeating common liberal talking points.
because they aren’t people 99% of the time, it’s a computer program. It’ll keep attempting, and if you do engage it will switch over to a real person once they have someone hooked.
They even have ones that garner attention, like shuffling noises, saying “Oh I’m sorry, hang on a second” and other gimics to keep you on the line and start engaging. You’d be surprised at how many people will say “Oh sure” out of politeness.
As for cost, to run a virtual machine in the cloud running 24/7 trying all the numbers one by one in the database would cost… pennies. We’re talking probably less than 5 bucks a month.
Sure it can be, what I’m trying to say is that there is no financial incentive for it to be though. Programming takes time and money, and there is literally no profit to be had for doing it.
They are going by volume, so the overall successes matter and the reason for why the rest are unsuccessful doesn't matter.
Phone numbers get reused all the time, so if they pull the number from the pool they miss a possible future opportunity. This is important when lack of success would massively shrink their pool of numbers at no real cost savings to them since they are going for volume anyway.
Basically you are asking from a logical and well intended point of view, but telemarketers are approaching it from a maliciously logical volume method that benefits from stumbling across enough gullible people to make the rest of the volume worth it.
Also, don’t underestimate the incompetence/lack of care that some of these companies may have. Just because they could reduce costs by flagging unresponsive numbers doesn’t mean they necessarily will.
Add the entire population of Denmark. Country is dead flat yet you can’t see one city from another one. Nor can you see the mountains of neighboring countries.
