sedot , to linux in Is there any reason NOT to use openSUSE Tumbleweed as a desktop OS?

I started to use Tumbleweed three years ago and can’t complain much.

The only thing are patterns, because they bundle some software i dont use too – but i learned how i can avoid them.

Tarh , to fediverse in sub specific upvote downvote rules?

There is some academic research on internet voting system that aim to be troll and bot resistant and be overall better. There is a website that allow to vote for Youtube video here : tournesol.app . If you are good in mathematics, the research papers may be interesting.

That’s a kind of voting mechanism that I’ll love seeing implemented in the Fediverse

ItDoBeHowItDoBe , to mildlyinfuriating in Everything has LEDs now and they drive me nuts

I have a portable speaker that I love, but it has this stupid ring of light at the top that brings in different colors and drives me nuts. Luckily it is able to be turned off. It still drives me mad that I have to turn it off each time, though.

ImFresh3x , to asklemmy in What's the point of buying new phones every years?

I like new cameras, higher refresh rates, and super fast page loads.

Selling my phone on Craigslist every year and buying new is about the same price as buying new every few years.

$1500 phone. 3 years. $500 per year.

$1500 phone. Sell for $900-$1000 at one year old. Buy new phone for $1500. $500-600 per year. And I have a always warranty (extended by my credit card).

Similar price per year, night and day better product.

Unquote0270 ,

$500 seems insane to me, I’ve only ever paid about £100 for a phone and it does everything I need it for.

Acid ,
@Acid@startrek.website avatar

Yeah that’s a no go mate, I couldn’t even do my job if I had a £100 phone it would end up being a cluster fuck as I need to constantly look at spreadsheets, and multiple email inboxes and work through a web Ui portal and none of that is gonna be a good experience on a phone at that price.

I’ve used enough of those cheap £100 phones be they new or second hand to know for someone who’s actually using their phone to do work they are completely unsuitable.

Crotaro , to gaming in Games on GOG?

It’s a bit rough around the edges, but you (or someone else) might enjoy Genesis: Alpha One

You fly a space ship (well, mine usually look more like stations that can also move), across different life-infested solar systems. The main gimmick is that you build the station yourself out of different modules.

So when your scientists come back from planet surfaces, with some spores on their suits, you might find pockets of ewww hiding in the vents of the station you made yourself. You have/unlock multiple times ways to make sure that the infestation stays relatively isolated to, say, the landing bay. But even with those, you’ll find yourself doing a lot of first-person vent-crawling to figure out where that disgusting crab-thing just came from.

Plus, it’s a rogue-lite with some permanently unlockable progression. There are multiple player factions you can unlock and there’s a NG+ mode, but I found myself not replaying it too much (even though my one played campaign was quite fun). Still, I sunk a good 16-20 hours into it, I think.

This is hilarious. I just set this up tonight. I use readarr to grab the books. Then Kavita Ingests them. Then I just use the app Pocketbook to read on my phone or tablet. It connects directly to your Kavita instance!

aman25ta , to piracy in My ISP sends me letters even if I am torrenting on VPN. Is there anyway to make my traffic not look like torrenting?

If you’re on qbit, did you bind your vpn to qbit?

Also your vpn might just be bad, what do you use?

sum_yung_gai OP ,

I did not but it was a system wide VPN.

aman25ta ,

Start the VPN and connect to a location. Open qBittorrent. Go to Preferences, and then Advanced tab. Change Network interface to the VPN (usually its name, like “Mullvad”). Restart qBittorrent.

Basically when you bind it, if your vpn ever happens to turn off etc its gonna stop the download/upload
