Kagi’s AI summariser is pretty good. It cites its sources and, by default, it only kicks in when you search with a ? on the end.

To be fair, I’m pretty impressed with Kagi Search overall. But that’s a topic for a different thread, I think.

JoMiran , (edited ) to asklemmy in People of lemmy, what was your “oh crap” moment?
@JoMiran@lemmy.ml avatar

September 12, 2001. I accidentally shut down an entire production plant. Management didn’t even get mad. They closed the plant for the day, I kicked off the boot cycle (takes hours for the system to be ready for production again) and everyone went home to be with their families. Nobody’s head was on right that day anyway.

EDIT: A few years later I was testing some BigIP configs on a tertiary unit when suddenly the entire e-commerce site went down. Apparently this unit used to be a primary before being demoted and someone (not me) forgot to disable replication, so when I wiped all the rules from my “test unit” I inadvertently wiped all the rules to the production units. Technically it wasn’t my fault but it was still an “oh fuck” moment.

Fondots , to nostupidquestions in Has there been a depiction of fast food on a space station?

In Outer Worlds there’s a couple establishments aboard the groundbreaker that could potentially count as fast food by some definition.

The stand on the citadel in mass effect is maybe fast food-ish

I vaguely remember seeing some stands in the background of Babylon 5 that could potentially have been something like fast food, but I never got into Babylon 5 too much so I can’t say much about that, I just have some vague memories of some parts I’ve seen that looked like fast food wouldn’t be out of place.

Pretty much any time there’s a big space station with a city-like interior I assume there’s probably something like fast food somewhere on board, maybe even visible in the background somewhere, though I can’t really think of any particular examples or any time it was specifically highlighted

Fortunately, there was no thinking until a very long time after that.

Well, not by life indigenous to Earth, anyway.

archchan , to fediverse in What made everyone move to Bluesky or Threads instead of Mastodon?

I’m only on the fediverse but I miss algorithms. Recommended accounts (which to be fair exists on a corner of Mastodon), similar accounts to one you just followed, custom home feed, suggested posts, etc. Discoverability sucks on fedi and the lack of interest from devs for some sort of private FOSS implementation is disappointing.

Loops was like let’s have a “For You” algo early this year but even that seems to be a dead idea.

I’ve been accused of being a Trump supporter multiple times because of comments on Gaza… as I read top comment of a dumbass calling people who denounce Harris as confirmed Trump supporters…

Anyways it’s the same in practically any niche technology, you just tend to see more leftists because they happen to be the ones creating and using said technology.

There’s still a large portion of Republicans who use cable/satellite TV, but don’t have internet besides their cellphone plan. They’d only come if lemmy became a popular de facto social platform like Facebook.

i really hate this, same thing also happened to me in my country. i’m hating on the “B” candidate and people would assume i’m “A” supporter. i don’t believe any politician at all.

cm0002 , to nostupidquestions in Has there been a depiction of fast food on a space station?

Not technically a Space Station, but there’s a whole Invader Zim episode on an entire planet being dedicated to fast food, Food Courtia iirc

I mean, it’s trained on internet content, and there’s probably a lot of articles that say “Google” and “monopoly” in close proximity.

macattack , (edited ) to fediverse in What made everyone move to Bluesky or Threads instead of Mastodon?

My personal opinion is that it was:

  • Easier signup
  • A wider variety of opinions… Fediverse imo is known for tankies and progressives. I’m a progressive so I’m OK w/ the latter, but it can be an echo chamber at times.
  • Built-in audiences (Threads especially but also Jack founding a spinoff helps)
  • Similar to Linux, one of the benefits to open-source is plenty of forks and standards. This leads to a more fractured landscape at times and so it’s rockier than the alternatives
matcha_addict ,

I know it’s not the main point, but I wouldn’t call Linux fractured. Linux has multiple choices, but they all work fine unless you’re going into an experimental realm or uncommon distros that beginners shouldn’t be getting near anyways.
