but open to other rabbit holes

If you like satirical comedy or entertaining educational shows, there’s a lot on Australian television (particularly shows from the national Australian Broadcasting Corporation). Also, for people who enjoyed The Office (at least, the UK version, I haven’t seen the US variant), I recommend Utopia - it’s far from a clone but has a lot of similar themes of workplace life mixed with poking fun at bureaucracy and government.

but I don’t live in australia, or have a VPN to access ABC iView!

Visit the sidebar resources of !piracy, or even just YouTube will get you a lot of them.

Grangle1 , to linux in More Linux libertarian shitposting 🦅🇺🇸🦅

I’m a centrist but I lean slightly right, and I’ve used Linux for 15 years. There are plenty of conservatives who use Linux for the privacy and security advantages it offers. At least one of the Linux YouTubers I watch is quite conservative. That said, Linux dev communities don’t tend to take kindly to conservative members voicing opinions while many allow left-wing opinions free rein, and some distro devs have openly stated they don’t want conservatives using their software. They should either allow political opinions from everyone or nobody, IMO. I’d say preferably just leave politics out of it altogether, FOSS should be open to be used by anyone regardless of politics or any other factors.

MindTraveller OP ,

As someone with conservative views, do you believe in conserving the environment through strong environmental regulations, or do you prefer letting these big fancy companies take away our seasons and weather and animals for their own agendas?

TMP_NKcYUEoM7kXg4qYe ,

I don’t know how to say it in a polite way but you are annoying. Original commenter stated that they want to keep the politics out to which you answered with a political argument that can basically be translated to “You are stupid”.

I guess you come from some internet political circle where the “My idea is the best and everyone else is dumb” is tolerated because generally these “communities” have common views. But this /c/ is not a place for that. People don’t share a singular opinion here so if everyone acted like you, this fun linux forum would no longer be so fun. Everyone would just crap on each other because each would think their opinion is the best and others are dumb.

I personally come here to relax or something, not get tired by arguments.

MindTraveller OP ,

This is a political post. It even says libertarian in the title. The meme uses the word “liberal” and threatens violence to people based on the political freedom of their operating system. You chose to click on it, you chose to read it and continue reading, and you chose to go to the comments to talk about it. Now you’re complaining that politics are suddenly involved. Sorry buddy, it’s time to take some personal responsibility for your own decisions. You made a choice and now you’re complaining that you have to see what you clicked on this meme to see. There’s nothing I or anyone else can do to protect you from seeing the things you deliberately click on.

Libertarians are not conservatives

zephr_c ,

True, but I do unironically know libertarians like this. Minus the Texas patch. They’re not so much into cheerleading for governments.

TMP_NKcYUEoM7kXg4qYe ,

Some of them are. According to wikipedia, it originated as a communist movement but later became a different name for “classic liberal” because American left-wingers “stole” the term “liberal”.

I guess you could argue that classic liberal cannot be conservative because they don’t want to conserve the status quo, they want to go back to some earlier state. But when you present some regulation in front of them, they take the conservative stance - being against it.

On a different note OP hit itself in its confusion, there are definitely libertarian Linux users. Look at Mental Oulaw (anarchist) and Luke Smith. edit: or go to some Odysee comment section. Apart from the crash test dummies who hate Mozilla because “the trannies!!! >:(”, you will find libertarians.

EnsignRedshirt , to memes in I hate it when people just say that a meme is "a repost" and refuse to elaborate

Memes are reposts! That’s their defining characteristic! They become memes by being reposted! If they didn’t get reposted, they would not be memes!

Grangle1 , to retrogaming in What are your favorite Nintendo 64 games?

I’m pretty “basic” in my choices. Both Zelda titles, Mario 64, Mario Kart, the three Mario Parties, StarFox 64, Diddy Kong Racing, Kirby 64, Banjo-Kazooie. I just bought an N64 a few weeks ago partially because I wanted to experience the games I had growing up again and also play a bunch I missed. I tried Mischief Makers because it looked interesting and I enjoy the unique mechanics but the controls are hard to master enough to feel like I even have a basic handle on them.

This libertarian redneck does! I also like taxing the ever loving fuck outta billionaires so they can’t mess with muh freedums. I also absolutely love this bit because a) it’s 100%FAX and b) my neighbor across the cul-de-sac actually did get caught breeding illegal reptiles.

thirteene , to asklemmy in TV nerds: what should I watch

Based on your previous shows: fallout, shogun and the boys are current.

Fallout - incredible S1 for the video game ip. Hilarious, visually stunning, flavorful

Shogun - game of thrones in japan

The boys - civilians take their city back from super powered heros

Ted lasso [ended] - amazing show about people, likely one of the best of this decade. A meme American football coach from the Midwest moved to the UK to teach a top tier UK futbol league.

Silicon valley [ended] - a tech startup in silicon valley on HBO constantly overcoming challenges with their revolutionary IP.

Avatar the last Airbender [ended] -

Disenchantment [ended] - Futurama but medieval magic

One piece live action - another great first showing for anime cross over, skips a lot of the filler and is executed well

+1 for the good place, arcane and last of us

stoy , to asklemmy in What would you do with a bitcoin windfall?

Whenever I have got a big lump sum of money I get worried, I have put it into my savings account to not accidentaly spend the money untill I know it is mine, just incase it was given by mistake.

So let’s say that I had mined 12BTC right when bitcoin was started.

That would be worth 765702 Euros today…

I’d probably sell it off in peices, which would probably lower the value since I am flooding the market in a relatively short ammount of time.

Then I’d have to report my profits to the tax man, and since I didn’t buy the BTC I’d have to check with them how exactly to report it, if it is anything like stocks where you don’t know the purchase price, I’d have to pay 30% tax on 80% of the total ammount sold.

So for simplicity lets say that I managed to get 700 000 Euro for my 12BTC, I would need to pay tax on 560 000 Euro, meaning I would pay 168 000 Euro, giving me 532 000 Euro to play with.

Untill I got the all clear from the tax office, I would not touch the money.

I’d put 400 000 Euro into my retirenment right away, and use 80 000 Euro to try my luck at investing in lobg term funds.

I’d then have 56 000 Euro as fun money…

Most of it would just stay in my savings account, increasing my buffer, but I would spend part of it on a new camera and lenses, new monitors for my home computer and a new Ducky keyboard.

Nothing huge.

There isn't really a direct equivalent. AD is a great product. Best to focus on the individual pieces instead of the whole package for a replacement.
