non-consensual advertising (consensual being things like steam discovery queue, where I actively want to be advertised to), “lobbying” (bribing), fossil fuels and friends, gerrymandering (US), the electoral college (US), publically trading your company
Most advertising is non-consensual, but I’m still whole-heartedly in agreement. One could argue that ads that are shown to a person consuming media without paying (podcasts, YouTube, etc), are kinda consensual.
If I could buy a large abandoned mall, I would absolutely love to turn it into an affordable community housing complex where shops can be set up alongside the housing units. There’s definitely more than enough space in any mall I’ve ever been to in America where you could easily renovate and turn stores into either single unit housing or maybe 2-3 units (big stores like JCPenney or Sears not included in this count because you could turn those into tens upon tens of units, assuming they’re as big as the ones at the mall near where I live).
I think I understand your taste and you will love Black Sails. This is also imo the single most underrated TV show ever.
I swear all the shows you mention lead me to black sails. I had a phase where I binged like 6 of the shows you mentioned plus black sails since they fit in so well together. I can’t say much more than, seriously, trust me on this one.
Avenue 5 is a brilliant dark sci-fi comedy that I cannot stop thinking about. It’s basically a cruise ship in space but then things go wrong. The physics are actually sound which makes for some really fun and terrifying gags. It’s heavy on dark humor, but if you’re ok with that it’s such a fun ride. I am biased but I feel like this show is criminally underrated.
Alternate take: This show is godawful but for some reason I kept watching. It’s literally unpleasant to watch. Critics also panned it, if you find that of importance.
We’ve been using famcal for this for years and it works pretty well. There’s probably better, more robust options out there, but it’s free and does everything we need it to so no complaints
Don’t expose your services directly to the internet. Instead rent a VPS and the use Wireguard to bring the traffic back home. In your home network your services should be in there own VLAN and everything should be isolated and sandboxed. Everything has the potential to be compromised so always practice least privilege and defense in depth.
