@ssm@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

non-consensual advertising (consensual being things like steam discovery queue, where I actively want to be advertised to), “lobbying” (bribing), fossil fuels and friends, gerrymandering (US), the electoral college (US), publically trading your company

BallsandBayonets ,

Most advertising is non-consensual, but I’m still whole-heartedly in agreement. One could argue that ads that are shown to a person consuming media without paying (podcasts, YouTube, etc), are kinda consensual.

It is always morally correct to deadname transphobes. Including JD Vance who’s “Real” name is James Bowman

The D in his name is for couch because that’s the only place he wants to put it

what like “Tommy Robinson, Whose Real Name Is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon”, where you have to use the full name at all times

The Cyberpunk 2077 anime was a trip

saddlebag ,

I found it very hard to follow without having played the game. There’s a lot of jargon that I didn’t enjoy

AlexWIWA ,

I’ve never played it either, but I liked it. I was definitely lost on the first episode though

AceFuzzLord , to showerthoughts in If malls continue to shut down and decay over the next twenty years, someone should turn them into retirement communities for GenX and Millennials.

If I could buy a large abandoned mall, I would absolutely love to turn it into an affordable community housing complex where shops can be set up alongside the housing units. There’s definitely more than enough space in any mall I’ve ever been to in America where you could easily renovate and turn stores into either single unit housing or maybe 2-3 units (big stores like JCPenney or Sears not included in this count because you could turn those into tens upon tens of units, assuming they’re as big as the ones at the mall near where I live).

I am watching Sweet Tooth now, seems alright.

I think I understand your taste and you will love Black Sails. This is also imo the single most underrated TV show ever.

I swear all the shows you mention lead me to black sails. I had a phase where I binged like 6 of the shows you mentioned plus black sails since they fit in so well together. I can’t say much more than, seriously, trust me on this one.

You’re asking on Lemmy? Star Trek.

Which one? Yes.

Avenue 5 is a brilliant dark sci-fi comedy that I cannot stop thinking about. It’s basically a cruise ship in space but then things go wrong. The physics are actually sound which makes for some really fun and terrifying gags. It’s heavy on dark humor, but if you’re ok with that it’s such a fun ride. I am biased but I feel like this show is criminally underrated.

I’ll check it out!

Alternate take: This show is godawful but for some reason I kept watching. It’s literally unpleasant to watch. Critics also panned it, if you find that of importance.

jordanlund , to nostupidquestions in How come it shows that I have 7 messages? Then when I click on it it shows nothing?

Sometimes federation takes time, or it can be blocked users or instances.

We’ve been using famcal for this for years and it works pretty well. There’s probably better, more robust options out there, but it’s free and does everything we need it to so no complaints

Don’t expose your services directly to the internet. Instead rent a VPS and the use Wireguard to bring the traffic back home. In your home network your services should be in there own VLAN and everything should be isolated and sandboxed. Everything has the potential to be compromised so always practice least privilege and defense in depth.

lud ,

Or just set up your home network and services properly. Ideally with reverse proxies and maybe a proper DMZ.

db2 , to showerthoughts in With the prison sentences for activists who threw soup on "sunflowers", our society has affirmed that an illustration of nature is something we value.

Our society has affirmed that antisocial shit is antithetic to the concept of society.

Now if we could only get the sociopathic politicians/finance bros to understand that we’d be in pretty good shape.

Isoprenoid ,

The sociopathic politicians and finance bros mostly outsource and monetise antisocial behaviour.

It called traditional and social media. /edgy
