formContainer , to nostupidquestions in Why is Hugging Allowed in Boxing?

If you are talking about western boxing which I assume you are (No kicks or anything but punches). The human body simply can not go at full pace for 12 rounds like that. If you want to watch some entertainment, fast pace, less hugging check out boxing in the Olympics. They are some mad lads

jacktherippah , to asklemmy in What's a good podcast you like?

I started getting into True Crime podcasts. So far, I’m liking these

  • Crime Junkie
  • True Crime Couple
  • Casefile
  • Unsolved Murders: True Crime Stories (Although I don’t listen to this anymore because it’s a Spotify exclusive. It is pretty good tho.)

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

bornforleaving ,

Morbid, Red-handed, Wine & Crime, Criminology, True Crime Garage, Dark Poutine, My Favorite Murder, Small Town Murder.

Varying degrees of comedy, I cycle through favorites depending on my mood.

olallieberry ,

If you love true crime, I absolutely recommend Sinisterhood! Amazingly funny hosts with great insights.

jacktherippah ,

Thanks! I’ll check it out.

orbituary , (edited ) to nostupidquestions in How does freelancing work these days?

I’ve almost done 3 years in as an independent. Don’t do it if you don’t have multiple faucets providing gigs for you. I make 2x my FTE salary, but it ebbs and flows.

If you are not already connected, don’t do it.

Edit: added “3”. No time context before.

exterstellar ,

Dang. My faucets only provide water.

devpaul ,

Are you saying it’s not worth becoming a freelancer if you don’t already have connections ?

rsn ,
@rsn@lemmy.world avatar

Depending on your profession, generally YES.

orbituary , (edited )

Sort of. I left FTE for this in July 2021. It’s feast or famine. You’re going to need a steady stream of jobs and the ability to say no, but that only comes after an abundance of saying yes to everything, sleepless nights of working your ass off, until finally it becomes steady.

It’s not for the faint of heart.

devpaul ,

That’s a fair point, thanks!

My HL2170W just works. I have every reason to believe its current replacement would just work. I don’t even know which drivers I’m using. Good luck.

Brkdncr , to nostupidquestions in I have a small problem with my hearing, but it's night-time right now and I'm not sure if I should go to the ER right now, or wait till morning. Advice?

Etterra , to nostupidquestions in What are the most mindblowing things in mathematics?

That you can have 5 apples, divide them zero times, and somehow end up with math shitting itself inside-out at you even though the apples are still just sitting there.

Gardienne ,

You try having 5 apples and divide them into 0 equal groups and you’ll shit yourself too.

Etterra ,

Except that by dividing the total number zero times means you’re not dividing them at all, and therefore by doing nothing you are still left with 5 apples.

azulavoir ,

Not dividing at all is dividing by 1.

loaExMachina , to showerthoughts in Is the Fediverse (or thrediverse specifically) going to follow the way of the old web?

Yes, I think there’s some of that! Not just the Fediverse, but the fact that many of the leading social media platforms aee struggling and people are looking for alternatives is a return to a stage with many social media existing and developping their own culture, without an all-powerful central one. I also feel like I’ce been seing more individual websites, even some small ones without much content, and some young people, myself included, have recently discovered RSS and started using it. I fear that only applies to a minority of people so far. I think too many have gotten used the convenience of letting a company do everything for them, they’re not embracing freedom, but already looking for a new overlord or still sticking with the last one.

fritobugger2017 , to android in Now that Sync and Infinity are out, which do people prefer? Also, how do they compare to the existing lemmy apps?

I’m using Jerboba until things shake out more.

Same here, been using jerboa since I joined Lemmy.

He may prefer to-- he is himself legally blind, and completely blind in one eye.

I’m glad he’s able to if that’s what he wants! I just hope he’s not being pigeonholed into roles since he’s a great actor.

Haha yes, you can see who are the madlads posting at 3AM with 5% battery left. Also, so much personality in just a simple homescreen, love it.

Prox , to showerthoughts in After migrating from Reddit, it’s jarring that comment sections aren’t cluttered with hashtag-style comments that are just links to subreddits like /HoLuP/

While I, too, appreciate this, I honestly have no idea how to link to another Lemmy instance (or whatever we call them).

kvothe99 ,

I think its supposed to be: !community

h3mlocke ,

Yup, !showerthoughts
When you type ! and then letters it will bring up a drop down menu

MaoWasRight ,

I’m gonna need you to do that about 100 more times and with different communities. Just so I can add them. Jerboa search is wonky lol

Scrollone ,

Try using Voyager! It’s also on the Play Store now: play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=app.vger.vo…

h3mlocke ,

You can use this: lemmyverse.net/communitiesto find communities, when you go to a community it will have a link in the sidebar like: !community you may have to paste that link into your instance search bar for it to show up. (I think this is only if nobody from your instance has searched for it yet.) Its kinda a pain, but I think this will be a lot easier later down the road.

Sir_Simon_Spamalot , to linux in Brother printer questions

I got my trusty HL-L2360D. It doesn’t print color, but nor do I need to. I mainly use it as a network printer, thru its ethernet port. The USB printing works with no issue on Linux using the USB-IPP. It uses dry toner, so no issue of having to buy new cartridge after not printing a while.

I think I read somewhere they’re trying to add some bullshit features on their newer products to “compete” with the other shitty printers. I hope I’m wrong on this.
