I sync my entire home directory to a google drive i bought the maximum size plan and only use about 5% of it. All my passwords are in plaintext .csv files and sent to the backup along with scans of all my important documents and financial info. The google password is 1234 and i turned off 2FA for convenience. :)

Yes it’s possible. I don’t know Fedora, it works without any problem on Arch. Plasma 6.1 I think.

This isn’t quite the right analogy. The traffic between you and the VPN is quite visible, so it’s more like the windows on the vehicle you’re using are blacked out so that nobody can tell what’s inside while it’s moving between those two points.

    xmunk ,

Just to de-analogy this a bit for clarity… with a VPN you can see that there is traffic but not what that traffic is…

The confusing thing is that the world is now running SSL by default so even with a proxy that traffic is hidden to intermediaries… so the distinction means a lot less than it once did.

Wilzax , (edited ) to nostupidquestions in What's the difference between a proxy and a VPN

In a technical sense, a consumer VPN service is really more of an encrypted proxy than anything else. It tries to obfuscate what network traffic and activity you’re actually participating in by both appearing as the endpoint for your connection, and the destination for the connection of the sites you visit and internet services you use.

A true VPN does more than that, allowing multiple computers that are not sharing a router to communicate with each other as if they are. For context, certain IP addresses are local-only, such as any IP starting with 192.168.x.x. This means that when you access the broader internet, your IP is different than the one used when you try to use your WiFi printer on your same network. They’re both your addresses, you have them at the same time, but one is really the address of your whole network while the other is the address of your computer in that network. Think “building street address” and “office number in that building”

For businesses and other organizations, a VPN is a useful way to allow users to connect using these local-only addresses without physically being connected to the network those local addresses are valid in. You don’t have to expose the printer to the Internet, you just need to expose the VPN service to the Internet, and then allow VPN users to connect to the network when they need to use the printer

I was concerned this was going to be a comment about what I put in my shopping cart.

But I can tell I’m an individual of extreme self-discipline because after I filled my shopping cart with chocolate and vodka I return it to the carousel.

    Everyone praised me.

xmunk , to nostupidquestions in American tourists visiting the EU, what do you think of it?

Better - I don’t give a shit about richer/poorer because the quality of life is clearly higher and that’s the only reason to care about wealth.

Food prices are extremely reasonable and often below American prices.

European cities are also safer not because there isn’t crime but because the design creates a lot more continuous safe spaces where there are plenty of witnesses and other folks.

Lastly, European Healthcare is much better in terms of cost and quality but if you need something that you can’t get done or done in a timely fashion it’s harder to afford health care tourism.

    lud ,

Afaik if you actually need something you will get it fairly quickly.

That’s why the healthcare system can be slow. We use triage heavily.

Functionally the same for most people. A VPN is a virtual LAN so you can access other computers on it. Ex. company’s internal websites from a remote location

Proxy just forwards traffic like a gateway. In both cases the source is hidden. LANs have gateways too

This got me thinking, what is a “true neutral” position.

Finding another cart which isn’t returned, and adding yours to it.

    Buddahriffic ,

Lawful good is returning the cart to the in store area (or wherever people generally get their carts from). Or returning more than just your cart to the corals in the lot. Might return a row of carts to the store while they grab theirs from the coral.

Neutral good is gathering some carts from the lot and making sure they aren’t taking up parking spots, though not necessarily returning them to the coral or store.

Chaotic good is grabbing one of ones randomly left out there and giving it to others who are going in to the store and grabbing another one for yourself. Cart may or may not be left in the coral after, though it’s at least left where it won’t be in the way.

Lawful neutral returns their cart and maybe others if they aren’t out of the way. Might freak out on someone who doesn’t return their cart.

True neutral sometimes returns it, sometimes doesn’t, sometimes grabs a loose cart, sometimes grabs one from the store area. Overall doesn’t make things better or worse, but individual episodes can do so.

Chaotic neutral picks a random (to us, they might have their reasons) cart in the middle of a row, pulling the other carts out enough to access that cart. May or may not return those other carts to the row. May or may not push their cart towards a coral when they leave. Most likely to be seen pushing a cart while driving their car, either with the cart at the front of the car or holding it through an open window (which might not even be the usual driver’s window). I’d call Mr Bean chaotic neutral, so anything he is capable of.

Lawful evil returns the carts to the coral but stacks incompatible carts with each other or might put it in backwards. Follows the rules in a way that makes you wish they hadn’t. Might stick a tack in one of the wheels so it won’t turn properly.

Neutral evil scatters carts to cause the most inconvenience. Doesn’t just block parking spots but might block car paths or entrances and exits to the store. Might overturn their cart. Might ram it into someone’s car. Might fight employees that try to gather carts.

Chaotic evil super glues wheels so they won’t turn or glues carts to each other and in the coral or to the door. Or might take one of those carts that are tethered such that they seize the brakes from one store and leave it in another store’s lot. Or might figure out how to trigger that without the cart leaving (the other evils might also do this one). Or might just burn down the store after returning their cart to the in store area, letting any observers briefly think they had changed. Might turn the parking lot into a crash up derby and refer to pedestrians as bonus points.

True neutral is carrying everything in your hands and avoiding the issue entirely.

Chaotic neutral is using a hand basket and putting it into an abandoned cart when you’re done.
