Innuendo in my ass.

If I’d seen this post a few minutes earlier it could have been Good Old-fashioned lover boy in my ass, and a bit later would have been I want it all in my ass.

The Queen back catalogue is full of winners for this game.

ASDraptor , to greentext in Posting the shopping cart theory because people had questions in a separate thread

Flawed. Here, you must insert a coin (or if you have it, a token with the shape of the coin) that will only be returned after you put the cart in the correct place.

So you actually lose something if you don’t return the cart.

grue ,

That doesn’t mean the concept is flawed; it just means those businesses were smart enough to put in countermeasures against bad people.

shalafi ,

They do this so they don’t have to pay staff to return carts, one of many reasons Aldi is so cheap.

Karyoplasma ,

“Cart returner” is not a job. It’s a thing regular employees have to do because some folks choose to be lazy. If everybody would return their carts, these employees would simply work on other shit in the store like cleaning or re-arranging misplaced items. Leaving the cart does not create jobs, it makes existing jobs more tedious.

bstix ,

It also means that the people who do leave the shopping cart in places without the deposit are the kind of cheapskates who can be bought for a euro. They’re only neutral evil.

True chaotic evil assholes would pay the deposit on several carts only to leave them.

3ntranced ,

That actually sounds like a hilarious way to spend 10$, especially when Aldi in the states still only requires a quarter

bstix ,

Then sit back and film the people returning the carts for the quarter. Put it on YouTube and profit.

arin ,

That means there were enough bad people that businesses wanted to purchase a lock token system at the expense of convenience of customers and overhead costs of their businesses

espentan ,

Mhm. That said, only a few places around where I live have “coin operated” carts. I guess the places that do have them got tired of the selfish, inconsiderate sobs who didn’t return the carts.

To me it feels so utterly strange to just dump a cart in the middle of a parking lot and, seemingly, think nothing of it.

li10 ,

That’s common in England, but a lot of larger shops don’t bother with that system.

Hjalamanger ,
@Hjalamanger@feddit.nu avatar

It’s the opposite here in Sweden, in some larger supermarkets you did need a coin but in no smaller shops

Anyways that’s all gone now since no one carries coins anymore

andrew_bidlaw ,
@andrew_bidlaw@sh.itjust.works avatar

Yep. I kinda dislike the idea of paid carts and am for pirating… But there it’s paying or putting extra effort to make other people deal with your cart.

cmder ,

Where I shop there is the token system but you just have to ask the security agent to get a free token. So there is no need to return your cart because you can get a free token each time you got to the store.

Maestro ,

I have seen supermarkets with even stricter systems. I have seen carts with automated brakes/clamps. If you try to leave the supermarket with the cart, the wheels block. So you are forced to put your groceries in bags and carry the bags to the car.

Ninjasftw ,

My local has these but they only stop you from leaving through the entrance. If you leave through the checkout area you can take the trolly out

GroundedGator ,

In the US Aldi requires a quarter. Depending on the area, there are absolutely people who will give up their 25 cents to not walk their lazy ass to return the cart.

Florida is full of inconsiderate selfish assholes.

HairyHarry ,

In case you weren’t joking:

Look at the bottom part of it. You can insert it into the coin “slot” to unlock the cart and pull it out right after.

No more losing a tiny little plastic chip or searching for the right coin - especially if you prefer to pay without cash.

(Also, I do return my carts.)

isolatedscotch ,
@isolatedscotch@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

sugar_in_your_tea ,

Yeah, I’d just not shop there. I never have change with me, and I’m not bringing change just because the store requires it. It might not be the first trip or the third, but over time, I’d shop there less and less because convenience matters.

ASDraptor ,

Then you’ll either start bringing change, get a token that you can use, or starve. No supermarket here has “free” carts. The baskets are free, but they are smaller.

sugar_in_your_tea ,

I’d probably just use a basket then, and buy less.

morbidcactus , to games in Why Do People Still Play Destiny 2?

My partner and I gave up destiny before witchqueen dropped, played pretty consistently since house of wolves with a pause just before forsaken until shadow keep. Absolutely loved the core mechanics and the PvP is some of my favourite, but it just felt so stale, barely any new maps, sunsetting old ones, lack of committing to ideas (4v4 was actually solid, some of the maps do not play well in 6s, 3s are fine though), rotating gamemode playlists like d1 had (for 6s I find control annoying after a while, 3s I liked relic in d1, mix in elimination and I’d be good)

It’s a shame because as I said, core mechanics rock, slug shorties and hand cannons feel amazing, and fusion rifles are legitimately awesome as well. I have really solid memories of doing stupid things with stuff like the Le Monarque and No Land Beyond. Wasn’t a huge fan of some metas but had some fun times with the games.

It’s always been a slur to differently abled people. Some grow up and go through life hearing it constantly as a way to shrug them off as disposable or something. It’s a way assholes in society treat them like shit.

What’s gone on recently is offensive cause there are real people who through life being called that and other names as a way to disregard them. Having to hear how it’s been openly used lately isn’t great, but people don’t get it. They think some things are harmless merely cause it doesn’t affect them or someone they care about.

infinite_ass , to nostupidquestions in What started “weirdo” as a slur just recently?

I just recently heard it used that way. To describe “conservatives”. Much like “yikes” I guess. They assign a new meaning to it and thus it is so.

Words are different these days. Like, words used to have a secondhand association with reality. But now it’s thirdhand.

cheers_queers ,

language evolves with every generation. this isn’t new

infinite_ass ,

Language evolves with every generation, yes. But I offered something different from that.

I offered that the relationship between word and thing was becoming more tenuous. Like two telephones drawing further apart. The conversation breaking up.

We talk less about reality now. We talk more about talking.

ColonelThirtyTwo ,

And how is calling conservatives “weird” how you describe?

Compared to conservatives calling anything left of them “communist”, calling a party backing a felon president and a vice president that can’t even make small talk at a doughnut store “weird” is very fitting.

notagoblin , to selfhosted in Has anyone used UmbrelOS or CasaOS?

I think I had a look at most of them except Umbrel. Bit of a mixed bag for me and none of them struck me as outstanding. On paper I fancied Runtipi but I struggled to get that up and running even with Debian 11. Liked the inbuilt proxy servers but some of the apps I tried fell over so there was that. Some of them seemed a bit of a walled garden, for instance cosmos cloud provides constellation vpn, free for now but intends to charge for it later. Having commited you might find in future that transferring your containers might be difficult because of the way that they are created to work with the specific application. I decided docker and portainer was simpler for me. On a similar journey to create NAS looked at Proxmox,Truenas Scale and OMV. I’m coming to the conclusion that they’re nice but I don’t need the level of sophistication they provide. The GUI are nice but I could build on Debian or Ubuntu for my needs, mostly containers and the odd VM.
