Well that’s probably a good thing because some people will switch to something else that’s not so privacy invasive

This society is truly dead.

GolfNovemberUniform ,
@GolfNovemberUniform@lemmy.ml avatar

Using this idea will give minors feel of complete safety when doing crimes. I don’t think you have any sort of morals if you support it but it’s a question for your local law enforcements. The crime in question can seriously damage the mental health of the vuctim and be a reason for severe discrimination. Older minors should be responsible for their actions too.

@GolfNovemberUniform@lemmy.ml avatar

Did you try switching the display protocol?

GolfNovemberUniform ,
@GolfNovemberUniform@lemmy.ml avatar

The clock drivers are not programmable right? I’m tired of all these “improvements” that don’t help anything except for killing repairability and programmable current control chips are one of them

GolfNovemberUniform ,
@GolfNovemberUniform@lemmy.ml avatar

Pretty good. There are a lot of different shapes but it doesn’t look too mismatching in this one.

Best office suite for Linux (unless you’re paranoid about its origin)

GolfNovemberUniform ,
@GolfNovemberUniform@lemmy.ml avatar

Don’t remember hearing of it in the free open-source desktop version.

It is better in terms of formatting compatibility which is the only thing that matters for 98% of users. Btw I use LibreOffice because security.

GolfNovemberUniform ,
@GolfNovemberUniform@lemmy.ml avatar

It’s mainly developed by a big Russian company but the brand is registered in another country to avoid sanctions

GolfNovemberUniform ,
@GolfNovemberUniform@lemmy.ml avatar

Typical Russian law abuse this is. Well source available is still not that bad in terms of security and privacy. At least it’s not fully proprietary

GolfNovemberUniform ,
@GolfNovemberUniform@lemmy.ml avatar

But that requires the apps to be able to identify if the user is in the “privileged group” or not so even more tracking now? We definitely have to stop it.

GolfNovemberUniform ,
@GolfNovemberUniform@lemmy.ml avatar

I know why they want to control digital space and I know they won’t leave it alone but still there are a lot of disadvantages to the control that law-obedient people understand and hate. The current situation has a lot of injustice towards them that surely helps fighting crime but the price is way too high. Even completely prohibiting usage of the internet for minors isn’t possible because it’s a law that’s impossible to enforce. There will always be compromises and issues in this space as in many other ones. This is why it’s hard or even impossible to have happiness in such a complicated world. The more controversial things there are, the more arguments and issues appear.

I just checked it and it seems to be an independent distro. Does it have a repo or do I have to compile everything I want to install?

GolfNovemberUniform OP ,
@GolfNovemberUniform@lemmy.ml avatar

Void doesn’t support the CPU architecture of that machine

GolfNovemberUniform OP ,
@GolfNovemberUniform@lemmy.ml avatar

I know and I think I tried the same version

GolfNovemberUniform OP ,
@GolfNovemberUniform@lemmy.ml avatar

Hmm I can’t find a browseable repo so idk if there’s anything useful for it but I might check it out. Thanks

GolfNovemberUniform OP ,
@GolfNovemberUniform@lemmy.ml avatar

I think it’s easier to write your own kernel from scratch than learning how to install something in Nix lol

GolfNovemberUniform OP ,
@GolfNovemberUniform@lemmy.ml avatar

It’s just for experiments and learning. Why judging? Also a Pi is like $100 here and it is a big deal for me

GolfNovemberUniform OP ,
@GolfNovemberUniform@lemmy.ml avatar

BSD is an option but I heard it’s slower and idk anything about how it works and how to install it

GolfNovemberUniform OP ,
@GolfNovemberUniform@lemmy.ml avatar

My main Linux machine is too slow to run a VM of any kind

GolfNovemberUniform OP ,
@GolfNovemberUniform@lemmy.ml avatar

I meant slower in terms of any rendering (web, 3D or anything else). And I’m only used to graphical DEs. I installed Arch via archinstall a few times and had a minimal Debian server with nothing except ssh working but that’s about it

GolfNovemberUniform OP ,
@GolfNovemberUniform@lemmy.ml avatar

Yes I am sure it’s not 686. 686 distros don’t boot anyways

GolfNovemberUniform ,
@GolfNovemberUniform@lemmy.ml avatar

They could just use non-personalized ads instead tbh. They do need to earn some money after all

GolfNovemberUniform ,
@GolfNovemberUniform@lemmy.ml avatar

Data anonymization is a good thing. If websites start using this solution instead of Google ads that’d be quite good. Well better than Google at least. But people seem to be afraid of ads getting added into Firefox. If it happens it will be a ticking bomb because the hunger for data and profit will rise every day.

The assassination attempts on China’s tech industry in general backfired a lot already

GolfNovemberUniform ,
@GolfNovemberUniform@lemmy.ml avatar

Are there even any advantages to it over ARM?

GolfNovemberUniform ,
@GolfNovemberUniform@lemmy.ml avatar

Wait so ARM isn’t open? Ok now it makes sense

GolfNovemberUniform ,
@GolfNovemberUniform@lemmy.ml avatar

I still don’t understand. Is it like RHEL (they give you all the source code) or more like Windows?

GolfNovemberUniform ,
@GolfNovemberUniform@lemmy.ml avatar

Too technical; didn’t understand. I prefer RISC-V at this point

GolfNovemberUniform ,
@GolfNovemberUniform@lemmy.ml avatar

You didn’t say it’s fully open-source so RISC-V is better no matter how “open” ARM is

GolfNovemberUniform ,
@GolfNovemberUniform@lemmy.ml avatar

You need to use the official way of unlocking (official Windows app and phone number). There are no other ways of unlocking I’m familiar with. I believe in the past you could unlock it via EDL testpoint but now it somehow only makes the device think it’s unlocked but you still can’t install anything. Buy a Pixel for easy unlocking.

GolfNovemberUniform ,
@GolfNovemberUniform@lemmy.ml avatar

I use LineageOS because my phone is not a Pixel and it works fine for me. If you don’t want to pay Google for a Pixel, buy a used one. Other than that LOS is fine. It doesn’t have anonymization features like /e/OS or something like that but it doesn’t force nor promote any apps or ecosystems (except for Seedvault but it’s not a big deal) and it is FOSS

GolfNovemberUniform ,
@GolfNovemberUniform@lemmy.ml avatar

Unfortunately 90% of privacy-conscious people can’t live without Google services because Google Meet, banking apps and other Play Integrity needing stuff

GolfNovemberUniform ,
@GolfNovemberUniform@lemmy.ml avatar

But that’s what GrapheneOS uses afaik. The person I replied to said that LineageOS (a fully vanilla ROM) with root (which breaks banking apps) is a better solution. I agree but I added that the mentioned solution is really not for most people.

GolfNovemberUniform ,
@GolfNovemberUniform@lemmy.ml avatar

Trust me a lot of them do if it’s a requirement in their school or at work

GolfNovemberUniform ,
@GolfNovemberUniform@lemmy.ml avatar

What?

GolfNovemberUniform ,
@GolfNovemberUniform@lemmy.ml avatar

There are some issues with some questions: empty ones (variant 1, variant 2, variant 3 etc) and toggles where radio buttons would be more appropriate

GolfNovemberUniform ,
@GolfNovemberUniform@lemmy.ml avatar

Sorry I can’t find it now. Probably I misunderstood something idk

GolfNovemberUniform ,

The wallpaper is awesome. And everything else looks quite unique, pretty and usable

The anti-AI sentiment in the free software communities is concerning. (lemmy.world)

Whenever AI is mentioned lots of people in the Linux space immediately react negatively. Creators like TheLinuxExperiment on YouTube always feel the need to add a disclaimer that “some people think AI is problematic” or something along those lines if an AI topic is discussed. I get that AI has many problems but at the same...

GolfNovemberUniform ,
@GolfNovemberUniform@lemmy.ml avatar

AI may be useful in some cases (ask Mozilla) but it is not like what you said in the middle part of your post. Seeing the vote rate makes me feel a tiny bit better about this situation.

GolfNovemberUniform ,
@GolfNovemberUniform@lemmy.ml avatar

Ok it’s getting properly sus now. Mozilla goes into politics way too much

GolfNovemberUniform ,
@GolfNovemberUniform@lemmy.ml avatar

Doesn’t matter. Politics is politics and always ends badly.

GolfNovemberUniform ,
@GolfNovemberUniform@lemmy.ml avatar

So you’re defending major companies? Ok. May as well do what Jia Tan did…

GolfNovemberUniform ,
@GolfNovemberUniform@lemmy.ml avatar

It isn’t much of a surprise to me either. I heard of them jumping into politics and misusing donations in the past. But it doesn’t mean they’re good
