@ICastFist@programming.dev avatar

Can you file a complaint straight to a regulatory agency? In Brazil, thankfully, whenever ISPs or telcos give you too trouble, you can simply complain straight to ANATEL (Brazil’s telecom regulator agency), saying what you’re trying to do and which, if any, protocol ID (you get one whenever you get on line with their customer blockage service) you’ve had. Companies will reply and fix the problem the next day.

FollyDolly ,
@FollyDolly@lemmy.world avatar

This is what I did, except I’m in the USA. I had to contact the FCC directly because my phone and internet provider just pretty much quit working. Turns out they were doing repairs in our area and just didn’t tell anyone to expect interruptions. If your ISP won’t take you seriously now, they will if you file an informal complaint with the FCC or other comparable agency.

Arch is too easy to set up nowadays for it to be a “thing”.

Maybe 15 years ago when the process was slightly more complicated but even then it’s always been paint by numbers.

Even Gentoo isn’t that difficult, just time consuming.

@tmpod@lemmy.pt avatar

I went through my subscription list on FreeTube and filtered these out (the list was much lengthier initially :p)

  • Alt Shift X — well detailed and narrated videos about fantasy series such as Dune, ASOIAF.
  • Captain Disillusion — very well made videos about VFX.
  • Computerphile — computer science twin of Numberphile; neat videos about the field with a wide range of guests.
  • EthosLab — pretty much the only Minecraft creator I still watch; witty, quiet and virtually the same for a long time.
  • hbomberguy — well known video essayist, easily one of the best in the platform
  • Jacob Geller — another quality essayist, exploring different themes, such as horror
  • Lemino — very well known creator focusing on mysteries, with incredible narration and stunning visuals
  • LockPickingLawyer — very simple, to the point and informative channel about locks and lockpicking; also virtually unchanged for years
  • Oversimplified — great overviews of major history events and periods, with funny narration and visuals
  • Tantacrul — fairly unknown essayist on music, with well researched material and nice takes :P
  • Then & Now — possibly my favorite atm (alongside hbomberguy); extremely well researched and presented video essays about history, politics and philosophy; very underrated imo
ronflex ,

Did not expect the ethoslab shout out, I fell off a while back but I followed his videos pretty religiously for many years back in the 2010s; even when I was going through times where I burned myself out on playing MC.

Dude is super wholesome and I loved how his videos kinda just felt like hanging out with a friend. Ive checked on him since and I respect that he has not changed at all, love him dearly. But it just doesnt hit the same for me as it did back then. I hope he keeps doing what he loves as long as that’s still the case!

Very well put, he makes an effort of bringing you along, which is a nice thing for a younger audience. I never stopped liking his relaxed style, though. His videos are one of those things I always reserve some time to enjoy.

I agree, but go to their channel and see how often they release content now vs a couple years ago. It’s like he covers one thing a year now.

tmpod ,
@tmpod@lemmy.pt avatar

True, it’s been much more slow paced. Thought it was because the videos took much more time to make, wasn’t aware he was quite active on Patreon.

Enragedzeus ,

I wish there was an actual alternative to YouTube. I believe arm chair historian is going through the same thing but I think he gets paid more for sponsors so it doesn’t affect him as much. I’m also getting tired you YouTube blurring our minutes of video when they show dead bodies from war or other visuals they deem necessary to blur. I watch a ton of ww1 and ww2 documentary’s on the timeline channel and even some of mark feltons videos are getting blurred. It’s insane.

I’d also recommend Naev and Endless Sky (Both are based on the Escape Velocity Series, Naev is getting a 3D PBR renderer in the next release). Mindustry is good fun, actually purchased this one on steam to support the amazing developer. Extreme Tux Racer is a bit of fun and Super Tux Kart seems to get better with every update (did I mention it can run on the Nintendo Switch via homebrew!)

mumblerfish , to asklemmy in how do you survive lazy coworkers?

I’d say this happens everywhere, with some exceptions maybe. Like I used to be in academia, it’s generally a stressful environment since you are 100% responsibe for everything. There is freedom in that too, but stressful.

Now I work in an office. There are some that take any chance they get to relax for a bit, socialize, snd so on. I don’t, I go there to work. I’m a bit introvert, so I don’t socialize much, but I put in some effort not to appear antisocial, but that is it.

I like my work, as in the tasks I do give me some satisfaction. I do it for me. I don’t socialize or relax at work because I happen to perfer the tasks. I know I’m lucky here, a lot of people do not get to work jobs like this. My collegues probably do not think the same way about their jobs, and I don’t blame them.

What I don’t get with what you are saying is the following. If everyone is “slacking off”, you get to do your work. I suppose you are not in a position where doing the tasks are satisfying enough to you, and that is why you’d want the others to do the tasks as well. But if you don’t get that satisfaction from doing the tasks, don’t you sympathize with your coworkers? They too probably do not get the satisfaction they’d prefer from the job alone, just like you? The difference between you and them is maybe then in the desire to socialize at work.

If you, unlike them, do not have any way of getting some base level of satisfaction at work, by the tasks alone or by some other means, and instead start resenting them for trying to get that satisfaction, then if you have to opportunity to change your line of work may help. People will probably still be the same, but maybe you won’t resent them?

eli04 OP ,

their first hour consists of looking for excuses to do nothing but talk with everyone around, whereas I prefer to finish my duties as soon as possible. During the other 7 hours, if somebody from another unit comes to ours, that’s another excuse to do nothing for 10 minutes. If while checking vitals somebody gets a funny meme or video sent to her, another 10 minutes go to waste. Something that could be done in 15 minutes like serving food lasts 45. This is what grinds my gears.

And I just want to finish my duties and go home.

It is true that changing jobs might help, but it’s also true if people are like this everywhere, I’m going to keep resenting them.

Ceedoestrees , to asklemmy in Be honest: have you ever lost your temper with a customer service rep? And did it ever help?

In person at an apple store.

I bought an iphone used off a friend who stopped being my friend immediately after. I never wanted an apple product, but my phone broke, I was poor and he sold it to me for $50.

I didn’t know you needed the apple id and password to SIGN OUT of anything. I sent him messages, did the whole “click here to request a new password” thing so he would get an e-mail about it…to his apple e-mail which, let’s be honest, no one uses.

Not being able to use the full functionality sucked, but I could manage. What was worse was receiving pictures and messages intended for him.

I did what any sane person would do and brought it to the apple store. The first person who helped me repeated “Our security systems protect your privacy” so many times, no matter what I said, I lost my shit, shouted “I would like to sign out so I can stop seeing nudes of this guy’s girlfriend!”

They didn’t help and I bought an android.

jewbacca117 ,

iphones are decent devices from a security standpoint, but useless if someone is still signed in. Your former friend sold you a $50 brick

Ceedoestrees ,

It still worked as a phone.

Calling features “Security” when they significantly reduce the secondary market is a convenient way to increase profits.

corsicanguppy ,

given Apple’s primary goal is “more things sold”, this is completely on-brand. Better, worse, secure, not; whatever the phones are or are not, every effort goes back to “more things sold”.

running_ragged ,

No, its a consequence of increased security and the inconvenience of have to sign out and create a new account when reselling the phone was an acceptable compromise, rather than an intended ‘bonus’ side effect. A lot of times companies do do that, but this wasn’t one off them.

This was your friend’s fault, and yours to trade cash before understanding how the system worked.

LodeMike ,

Its security because people can’t steal someone’s phone then reset it.

those are pickling cucumbers here, technically also called a cucumber but you don’t really think of them as the same thing, like how raw beets are technically perfectly edible but it’s assumed you’ll pickle them.

bdonvr , to nostupidquestions in Is this normal for girls or just a extreme edge case? (Serious question)

Hairbrush handles are much more common. I’d say most girls probably haven’t used vegetables.

arin ,

Most hairbrush handle designs are intentionally… yeah. But plastic is porous and nearly impossible to fully disinfect, so girls who reach puberty should be provided with high quality silicone or glass to protect them from getting a bad infection. Prudeness in our society will just hide issues like infection until it gets really awful.

Swedneck ,
@Swedneck@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

why is it just assumed that they’ll use an object? hands work fine too, you don’t assume people with penises will inevitably get an infection from sticking it inside a vacuum cleaner…

And like, lesbians exist?? they have lots of fun just with rubbing!

and yet no one worries about what boys get up to, they don’t consider buying their sons a fleshlight so they won’t fuck the couch (though maybe a specific pair of parents should have).

it just feels strange to me that young women are assumed to be incapable of not harming themselves while having fun, like oh what a coincidence that it’s girls who need protecting, huh?

ICastFist ,
@ICastFist@programming.dev avatar

Because fingers get tired and, in the case of women, the object can go further inside than her fingers. Depending on setup, she can go hands free, too.

Sticking a dick in a vacuum cleaner is not a proper comparison because most of the dick is protected by skin and even the glans will mostly be fine with the same dirt/contaminants that you can wash off your skin.

Anything that gets inside your body represents a much greater risk of infections. A better comparison would be to a man pretend sucking something or sticking it up his ass.

Please don’t skip biology classes.

Swedneck ,
@Swedneck@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

well thanks for being condescending, not sure what this has to do with biology class?

yes, fingers get tired, why do you think there’s the joke about guys with one suspiciously muscular arm?
my point is that using your hands is perfectly fine and what you’ll naturally gravitate towards since it’s extremely readily available, it’s strange to me that everyone immediately assumes that women have to use toys to get off, it feels vaguely misogynist somehow, as if girls are incapable of pleasuring themselves…

that toys feel better is a non argument since that applies arguably doubly so to guys, who can both shove something up their bum and get a fleshlight, and yet no one’s going around saying guys need toys to get off.

I think you mean “digitally”. Digital = with your digits (ie. fingers). Acoustically = with sound (?)

Unless you’re talking about ear-tonguing. Which I agree is hot but I think it’d be pretty hard to make a woman cum that way.

LustyArgonianMana ,

bionicjoey ,

Lol, never seen that one. Agree that I am a nerd.

Kinda wild to me that a woman could have this take since as a dude I’m very used to playing acoustic dick. Can’t imagine just deciding I don’t wanna nut anymore because I’d have to do it by hand. I gotta say I kinda envy women since it’s pretty socially acceptable for them to use toys compared to the fellas. It’d be cool if I could just have a fleshlight or sex doll in a drawer somewhere and nobody would think it’s any weirder than a girl having a vibrator in her drawer. They look like they’d feel good and be a fun time. But there’s so much judgement around them.

Zozano ,
@Zozano@lemy.lol avatar

Despite what you may have seen in porn, using your own fingers for penetration is kind of awkward in terms of angle, and has a very different feeling.

I think the implication you’re making about lesbians is that they participate in substantially less penetration?

Being interested in women doesn’t change what feels good in regards to physical gratification.

Swedneck ,
@Swedneck@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

what i’m implying is that external stimulation also feels good, and i find the idea that you need internal stimulation to be strange. no one applies this to people with dicks, anyone with a dick is just assumed that external stimulation is sufficient and internal stimulation is an extra thing for brave people.
