Yes, I decided to call it “Southern Ireland”, because I doubt many people outside of Europe will know which one of the two Irelands is the “Republic of Ireland”.
I did look up beforehand, if I’m allowed to say “Southern Ireland” without being crucified and Wikipedia said yes maybe: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southern_Ireland
They rotated it slightly to get the south coast more horizontal and binned off most islands (the Shetlands and Orkneys I can understand but the Isle of Man wasn’t in the way).so they could pack more into the space.
Wow, that dam between northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland has really come along in this better map. United Kingdom is great Britain and northern Ireland, for reference.
I like that you think the poster submitted original content.
Did you know that in London, there are people from the other regions of the UK and also from overseas. It’s a mass generalisation. The map uses ellipses and circles.
The book is originally from the 80s, and if I remember correctly part of the conceit is that none of the family know what this strange “avocado pear” is (because in Britain of the 1980s no-one did). I don’t think the financial ramifications are really discussed, and the family keep feeding the little blighter avocados until he gets strong enough to beat up a burglar or something.
Marks & Spencer claim they introduced avocados to UK supermarkets, when they stocked them as ‘avocado pears’ in 1968. At the time, we Brits did not take to them.
People were confused by the name: when one customer complained after she’d stewed her avocado pear and served it with custard, M&S even started selling them with leaflets explaining they were intended to be a salad item.
E5 for me. I soak and squeeze the crap out of the teebag.
A tip for everyone to get stronger tee. Put the teebag in a quarter cup of boiled water, then boil it in the microwave for 30 seconds, then add the rest of the water. It releases all the favour in the bag.
That sounds like too much tannin, but if you like that then why not. I prefer to use different tea for a stronger or milder tea flavour. I’m not trying to knock what works for you, if I had a microwave I would at least be willing to try it so I could comment with more knowledge.
You might enjoy using a loose leaf tea if you haven’t tried before?
The bottom of that map is more orange than I was expecting. I’m surprised at the blue patch north of England. I always associated cone scone with the posher south.
The UK quite often sees words switch around in how posh they are. This is because most people want to sound posher than they really are, while the actual posh people have nothing to prove and want to seem down-to-earth. See U and non-U English.
Saw it claimed somewhere that Queen Liz 2 said it rhyming with “gone”, so it’s not really class. According to the map Bradford, where I grew up, is an absolute fault-line on this issue.
The largest tech companies can’t secure their shit properly.
No these smart locks are terrible. Their physical locks are usually bargain basement trash, their design is usually full of well known flaws and their code is full of well known exploits.
Don’t worry - that definitely will have happened (the photo is a few months old).
They are all really lovely, and hopefully happy, cats. They’re still quite young (just under 1.5 years now), so still very playful, so there’s plenty of playtime with the humans and with each other. They’re brothers, and most of the time best friends, so they normally all hang out together.
They all get a good amount fussing if they’re in the mood for it, especially the silver one, who’s really into his “tummy tickles” or “belly rubs”, and likes to demand them quite frequently.
Researched a bit into this some time back and I was not convinced.
It would be nice to have a lock I could assign entry codes for different users and still have a physical key as an emergency backup but the obcession with these locks being tied to an app and/or internet discouraged me.
I stayed with purely mechanical locks with complex keys and secondary arms that make the task to break down a door much harder.
Don’t know how it is in other countries but I’ve been to shops where I specifically asked for locks that would give a locksmith a bad time to pick and was shown a few models where the only way to break it was to put a whole cutter to it and cut out the entire drum.
My door lock is a smart lock but I disabled all ability to unlock it remotely with an air gap. It gives me the ability to use the keypad to lock/unlock without any security holes added.
My smart home system knows it’s state too, so I can have it make a chime or alarm if the door is unlocked at certain times. Great for alerting us that our toddler is playing with the door again.
