The order declares that, in matters of the state, the “biological differences between the sexes are enduring” and that the “sex” of a person will be defined by the gender designated at birth.
This means that insecure men in Nebraska can now go in to the dive bar they get drunk at starting at 1030 AM, and hit on any woman in the place without fear of her secretly having a penis.
Not that there are any women in that bar, that they’d ever have a chance at taking one home, or, that this executive order actually means any of that. But the idiots who support this kind of thing will think it does.
My wife didn’t want to move to Minnesota, so we bought a house here, and aren’t likely to leave now. Had I not met her when I did I likely would have left a few years ago.
I think you don’t know how often it’s not one of those two, and if someone is going to get to pick, maybe we should also let individuals pick for themselves too.
Edit:
Looked at that profile…
Pretty sure you don’t think at all, easiest block of the week. Have fun shouting hated into the void
You are thinking of sex. Gender comes from the same root as genre - like how you categorize books. It was initially used to define things loosely by cultural traits like “tribe” or “type” and was used in the 15 century to describe men and women in a tongue in cheek way. Basically saying “the tribe of woman” right before trying to be witty about how women don’t make any sense because they are like another culture. Other uses would have been to distinguish differences between any different nations, families, groups. So your gendre could have been “English” or “From this specific village where they eat a lot of cheese” or of a social class.
The word got hijacked by Victorian sensibilities which used it euphemistically in that “tribe of” way for the word sex because having a woman saying the word sex aloud to a room in the scientific sense of the word caused monocles to shoot out of men’s eyesockets at lethal speeds and early feminists needed language they could use without being censored… But the modern usage of gender is not a euphemism for sex. They are two distinct words.
Gender does not concern itself with any part of the person’s body. It refers more to classification by cultural attributes. Like how you would decide if a book belongs in the mystery section or romance. Whether the book is hard or soft cover is not relevant to genre classification in the same way male /female/intersex is largely irrelevant in regards to gender classification.
I’m probably one of those. I joined because it was a low hanging fruit for an instagram user. It is basically twitter culture all over again. People complain that you’re just posting into a void on Mastodon but I get tons of responses over there. The real void is any mainstream social media where only the voice of influencers are amplified. The whole main feed is just 90% suggested posts. Why the fuck do I wanna see a post from Jake Paul or Mr. Beast?
My experience as well. I blitzed and grinded followers cuz it was easy and why not. My feed is okay in general, but I had to follower 1.5kish people to get it that way.
But I still get more than twice the engagement and meaningful engagement at that on Mastadon and Kbin, with less than half the followers. I also get little out of twitter, but I may be bad at it.
I get why that matters for big accounts. I will never understand why normal people prefer that, though. I much prefer engagement with people over consumption of content produced by popular influencers
A lot of Christians have a pretty vague understanding of the bible, or the religion as a whole, usually jusy what will let them justify whatever they need to be justified.
This should be expected, to be fair, since Christianity is a cultural inheritance. You’re not expected to know much about it other than what your priest tells you, if the Christian even goes to church to begin with.
As an actual Christian that reads the Bible and goes to church, I wish more people who called themselves Christian actually followed what the Bible says. It’s a big problem in the US
Patently false. Most atheists have read the bible as much as most “Christians”. Some of the most-common “causes” of atheism are: never was pushed/encouraged to believe, skeptic/scrutinizing personality, or being annoyed by what “Christians” say or do. All of these reasons and more for being an atheist are good and valid-- I’m just arguing against this bad-faith (no pun intended) crap that you are arguing, and that some other atheists say.
I'd agree that it's not a leading cause. To your list though I'd add that some people are pushed too hard to be believers, and reject it, or grew up in an area where people are just flat-out obsessed with religion and it ends up putting their hypocrisy in view.
Depending on your point of view, those could be partially or fully extensions of my list points; but yeah, there are plenty of good reasons to be an atheist. I myself am an ex-Christian agnostic theist. My churches were Baptist, and… yeah, none of that crap anymore. xD
What’s even the point of deciphering the Bible when you can make it say what ever it is you like. Why not just start with what you want to believe and patch together Bible verses that support it?
That’s my main problem with the culture. If people want to believe random supernatural stories written long in the past and use that as a basis for their morality… uh, okay… I just don’t like how they rely on other people to do their reading and interpretation.
I wonder if you can legally change genders with this. If you’re a woman who’s bigger, stronger, and faster than the average male in Nebraska, then you satisfy this biological condition set forth in law.
Phew, good thing the courts in the USA - (a country with sadly laughable protections for people’s rights compared to other large developed regions like the EU) - are the only courts in the world, and what they do is the only thing that matters.
Thanks for telling us all what we think, by the way. Where would we be without an American telling us all what we think?
This article is bullshit man, voice is not even that similar, there is 0 proof that’s her voice or even that they asked her if they can use her voice. People is blowing this out of proportion
And they didn’t use her voice. Article clearly states that she said she is shocked they choose similar voice to her after she declined. It makes sense for open Ai to choose similar one because when they were preparing list of the voices they obviously wanted voice to be of her kind. It’s not like her voice is something so fucking unique she has copyright over all of the similar voices in the world
I guess every out of court settlement is an admission of guilt in your eyes? It’s nothing to do with the massive amount of money wasted dealing with legal matters or anything.
If Scarlett Johansson is trying to accuse them of using her voice without consent, do you really think it will only end up in the court of public opinion? My point is that it might escalate to court, which OpenAI might not want to deal with. Backing down in this case is just as much of an admission of guilt as taking a settlement out of court, which is not at all.
Guy you replied to did miss that part but consider the (still to be verified) facts.
they ask to use her voice, she declined.
they proceed by not using her voice. Someone else’s voice instead.
oPeNaI “believe that AI voices should not deliberately mimic a celebrity’s distinctive voice—Sky’s voice is not an imitation of Scarlett Johansson but belongs to a different professional actress using her own natural speaking voice. To protect their privacy, we cannot share the names of our voice talents.”
The end result is pretty clear here. Either this other person exist and could testify privately in court with her natural voice which she has the rights to work with OpenAi. There is a closure in law where not being able to provide evidence that the court knows must exist can make you guilty. Openai could have tried to pull a “this is a fully unique synthetic voice” but crucially they did not.
The nazis are back, Russia’s trying its best to cause WW3, our rights are dropping like flies, oligarchs have become cartoonishly overt in fucking the rest of us cuz they know we’ll just bend over and take it, and we’re literally cooking our planet with cow farts and dinosaur juice to the point that its ability to support life is rapidly approaching a hard stop.
…and the thing we’re putting our energy into is the dangly bits in our pants.
All this is just smoke and mirrors. These governors don’t give a shit about any of this. However, their rabblerousing bases do, so they pull this shit because they know it’ll keep the press and protestors busy enough so they don’t look at the real issues. It’s easy to rob a man or woman blind if they are busy protesting some nonsense stupidity you out up there to distract them.
I have a 5 digit UID, and I just checked that I can still log in. Looks like my most recent comment was in November of 2015, which is a lot later than I would have guessed.
I visited a few times right after the reddit blowup, while checking out other options for this sort of thing. I might have to go back more.
I skipped the Digg era. I didn’t join reddit until probably 2015, after I kept coming across extremely useful information there that wasn’t available elsewhere. I think it was the advice on what to do with asbestos that finally tipped it over for me.
I was an early reddit adopter. I preferred its hyper minimalist style, as well as the type of conversations I saw, to Digg at the time. Well before the whole Digg 2.0 debacle.
And shit like this exactly is why religion needs to be kept out of school. If someone is curious, they can learn about it on their own, it’s a decision best made once more mentally developed, anyways. Don’t indoctrinate children with your bullshit, especially if the teachers are clearly not able to keep their own shit out of it.
Her attorney said Monique is just a “normal Bible-believing Christian.”
That’s an admission of guilt, not a legal defense! O.o
I disagree. If any of those “bible believing christians” had actually read the bible they’d know to be full of shit.
The American cults are truly fascinating as they managed to create the stronges gap between staun fundamentalist religious belief claims and a comical lack of actual scripture knowledge.
It shouldnt be considered a religion but a radical ideology with loose association to Christian symbolism but no actual connection to christianity.
It is truly amazing how some people claim to be incredibly firm believers in this or that religion and then it turns out they know almost nothing about the true principles and history. Like these people lately who have been saying Jesus's teachings were 'too liberal'. WTF, I know it's how they do it, but you're not suppose to just pick and choose.
Yeah, even the mindset that you being sick is your personal problem. If you get sick, you should be able to be away as long as you need, without being worried that you become homeless.
